This letter has been acted upon.

Item #4-: Yonge anq_ Wellington Sts. Intersection
The Committee recommends that the traffic controller at this
intersection be modified so that advance green lights for left turns be
available for both north-bound and south-bound traffic on Yonge Street
and east-bound and on Wellington Street.
The Committee also recommends that overhead signs indicating left ~oxrn,
and straight through and right turn lanes be erected on all four
approaches to this intersection.
Item #5: Letter 42-421
The Committee recommends that the Clerk write a letter to S. K. Sharma,
12 Aurora Heights Drive, Aurora, making the following points:
1. The police department is aware of the problem of speeding and
enforcement on Aurora Heights Drive.
2. The comments regarding Bathurst Street are outside the jurisdiction
of the Public Safety Committee.
3. Traffic lights at Yonge Street and Orchard Heights will likely
be installed when the Orsi Subdivision is completed.
4. The Committee feels that a crosswalk at Aurora Heights Drive
and Tecumseh Drive is not •rarrented at this time.
Item #§: Letters 14-48 and 14-49. Swimming Pool at 432 Glass Drive:
The Committee recommends that the Building Inspector be instructed
to prosecute under By law #1989-73. It is quite apparent that a
judicial interpretation is necessary in this case.

Kennedy Street, East.

Councillor Simmons presented a report of the Works Committee in which
the Committee respectfully submitted the follovdng:
A meeting of the Works Committee was held on Thursday, September 11th.
1975 at 8:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers.

It is the opinion of the Works Committee that there is nothing can be
done this year about a new chassis but would recommend that this
should be considered early next year.

The sidewalks in White Strip are in a deplorable condition and should
be repaired, not all in one year but over a period of time.
The Committee recommends that tenders should be let for the amount
of money left for sidewalk purposes in the budget -taking into

The Committee would recommend that tenders be called for rental of
D.H.O. Sanders.
The Committee would also recommend that tenders be called for winter
sand and salt and for the removal of snow on Town parking lots.

Victoria Rnd Gurnett Streets be put up if our By-law is in order -if
not, the By-law should be brought up to date -and enforced by ~olice.

It is also recommended that the York County Board of Education make
better use of the parking lot they have rented on Yonge Street so that
many of these cars do not have to park in areas where they do not
belong.

Mayor Buck presented a report of Council in Committee in which the
Committee respectfully submitted the following:
A meeting of the Council in Committee was held on Monday, September
8th. 1975 at 7:45 p.m.
Present were: Mayor Buck, Councillors, Jackson, Miller, Roth, Simmons,
Stewart, Timpson and Williamson, and the Town Engineer
J. D. Reid.
'1. Alcan Limited request to regrade the bank slope at the south of the
exist~ng property. The Council in Committee considered this matter
and would approve of the regrading and sodding with the proviso that
the Clerk Administrator write to A~can Officials requesting the
co-operation of their officials or their transport people to refrain
from dropping the trailer dolly wheels on the asphalt surface of the
new pavement.

Mr. Keith Nisbet ana Mr. Doug Nisbet attended this portion of the · ·

meeting and discussed with the Council in Committee and our Town
Engineer, J. D. Reid briefly the Subdivision requirements and Council
in Committee would recommend that J. D. Reid in conjunction with the
Clerk Administrator prepare a Draft Subdivision Agreement for further
consideration by the respective parties. ·
3. Letter 14-22 -J. D. Rei~
Drainage problem -At the rear of the Yonge St. S. properties between
Edward St. and the Sunoco Station. The Council instructed J. D. Reid
to propose a solution with the parties and make a further recommendation
baelt to Council.
4. Letter 14-28 J. D. Reid -Gur.nett St. Acceptance Certificate
Council in Committee reviewed the Acceptance Certificate for the
Gurnett St. reconstruction Contract and would agree with the
recommendation of the Town Engineer to issue the Certificate of
Acceptance for this project.
5A. Letter 14-3'1 --J. D. Reid ·-Gu=ett and Kennedy St. E.
The Council after discussing this matter requested J. D. Reid to
report further on this item.
5B. Ontario Housing Copporation -Supplementary Rentals
Attending this portion of the meeting were Mr. W. E. Balkwill -
Development Officer, Community Rental Housing Branch, Mr. Hickery,
Manager, Rent Subsidy Program, Ontario Housing Corporation and Mr.
Tom Surgeoner, Ontario Housing Corporation, Area Office.
Following explanation of the rental supplementary ::,:~rogram and the offer
of 50 units in the Wellington St. W. Apartments the Officials from
Ontario Housing Corporation expressed their hope that they would
.like to see the Town of Aurora take up the offer of some of the
50 units which were to be made available. Following discussion
Council in Committee would recommend that the Town of Aurora take up
to 50 rent supplement apartments and consider a resolution to this
effect at the next meeting of Council.
6. Allocation of Ice Time .
Council in Committee discussed this matter further and following a

state that Council is satisfied by the Allocation of ice time now
worked out by the Recreation Administrator and would support the

Recreation Administrator's recommendation in fairness to all segments
of the Community to participate in ice time use, and in the opinion
of Council no better or fairer way can be worked out at this time
with the limited prime ice time available.
7. Auto Allowance
Council in Committee would recommend that the monthly auto allowance
of Mr. R. J. Harrington be increased to $87.50 .per month and K. B.
Rodger to $40.00 effective July 1st. 1975.
8. Proposes Special Committee -To Stugy ~ Sports Complex
Council in Committee in disoussion of this matter would recommend that
a citizen be approached to Chair this Committee and that three (3)
members of Council along with five (5) other citizen members make up
this Special Ad HmCommittee. The first duty of this Committee would
be to make recommendations for the five (5) ci~izens to be
appointed and to set out terms of reference for the Committee to determine
a·nd set out a continuing dialogue for the information and report to ·
Council of their findings and recommendations.
9. Letter 13-130 -Royal Canadian Legion
In consideration of this matter several of the members of Council
expressed a possible conflict of interest, however the consensus of
opinion was that no action should be taken on any possible exemption
at this time.
