of the Projects Committee re the development of a five or
six acre site as an active park.

"That a special committee be set up to meet with
the Lion's representative to discuss further and
report back to Council.
The Committee to be composed of the Mayor and the
Chairman of the Works Committee, Parks Committee
and the Planning and Development Committee."

Mr. Bill Hitch, Chairman of the Finance Committee spoke on
behalf of the Board on a proposed addition, approval and
progress to date, and concluded by saying that the Library
Board hoped that in 19?5 or 19?6 more construction money might
be provided to complete the construction.

Item #2. ~ropria~ion B~-law-Corner Property Clerk-Admin~strato~, K.. Rodger advised that the offer to
purchase the Corner property has been tendered and if not
accepted by Wednesday, October 31st. 1974, expropriation proceed-
ings will be expedited by the passing of theBy-law November 4th •
1974.
Item #3. Boyd Transport -Application for Open Class C Licence
A Mr. Reginald Glass of Boyd Transport, Newmarket, has requested
Council's support in obtaining an Open Class C Licence for
trucking operations. The future hearing date to be Friday,
November 1st. 1974 at 9:00 a.m. Toronto.
Council in Committee would recommend support of the application,
subject to representation ad expense at hearing.
Item #4. Y.W.C.A. -Request for Grant
The Ric~ond Hill and District Y.W.C.A. has requested Council for
a grant of $500.00 to assist in their Take-A-Break activities.
'· ·· Council in Committee would recommend no financial assistance
be offered at this time and further suggest that the Parks
and Recreation Committee consider meeting with representatives.
Item #5. Memo from J. D. Reid -Letter 22-37 -Request for
Driveway Repairs:
Council inCommittee were advised of a complaint from Mr. West
re: Asphalt rc:.~airs.
Council in Committee referred this to the Aurora Hydro to
repair same.
Item #6. Memo from J. D. Reid -letter 22-38 Industry Street,
extension.
J. D. Reid, Eng~neer, has advised with the extension of Industry
Street N., which services the new Legion Building, the lowering
of the watermain to accommodate the new grade of Industry Street
was necessary. Armitage (Ontario) Construction completed the
installation at a cost of $340.00 and are asking payment for

Item #7. Memo from B. Whitchurch re: Works Dept, consideration
for E9uipment
Council in CommJ.ttee were adivsed of a street rodder demonstration
to be held October 29th, in which the Works Department would ·
participate. Also, a request for an additional two-way radio for
the Champion Grader, and fu=ishings for the new Works Building,
subject to budget approval.
Item #8. Letter from the MinistrY of Housing, re: Public Open
Space
The Ministry of Housing has forwarded guidelines for Official Plan
Policies on Public Open Space (Parkland) under the Planning Act. ·
Council inCommittee would recommend adoption of same. ·
Item #9. Letter from the Royal Canadian Legion re: Remembrance
Day Service
Council in Committee were advised of the annual Remembrance Day
Parade and service to be held Sunday, November 10th. 1974 at the
Aurora Cenotaph.
Council in Committee would recommend the proclamation for the
sale of poppies from November 2nd.-9th. 1974.
Item #nO. Letter 21-10 re: Additional Representation on the
Regional Council from the Town of Markham
The Regional Municipality of York has written to the Town of
Aurora with a request from the Town of Markham for additional
representation on the Regional Council.
Council in Committee would recommend that no municipality should
have less than two persons as per Region Report and would
receive the above letter as information.

Services Available;
Council in Committee were advised of a municipal submission from
Teela Market Surveys who provided municipal advisory services
and would recommend this be received as information.
Item ~3. Letter 2-42. MinistrY of Transportation and Communications
re: Trans-Cab Report. '
Council in Committee were advised of the Trans-Cab Report receive~
from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications and would ·
advise this report be received as information and circulated,
on a rotation basis to councillors for study.
Item #14. Proposed Mall -Northern Lights Centre -Larma
Investments:
Council in Committee discussed the proposed shopping mall to be
situated .at Yonge Street and Orchard Heights Blvd, and would·
recommend this be referred to the next regular meeting of
Council and further tl-:nt a letter of intent from the develope11,
indicating his prime tenants in the mall, be forwarded to ····

Community Buildings Committee Report #65
Councillor Stewart presented a report of the Community
Buildings Committee in Which the Committee respectfully
submitted the following:
The Committee met on Tuesday, October 29th. 1974 at 8:00 p.m.
Present Were: Councillors N. Stewart, W. Davis, members
F. Caruso, Mrs. M. Dewan and Mrs. M. Dawson.
1. Community Centre Canteen
The Committee recommends that Mrs. M. Chowzun be appointed
Canteen Manageress effective November 15th. 19741 at a salary
of $125.00 per week plus ~~of net profits over ~1,000.00 per
month.
2. Community Centre Sign -Yonge and Aurora Heights Drive
The Committee recommends that a new sign be purchased and the
Purchasing Agent contact sign companies to obtain costs,
durability and visibility, within the next 10 days. The sign
should be white background with black lettering.
3. Ian Tyson Show
The Committee reports that it would appear the Ian Tyson Show
had a loss of approximately $1,600.00. The Committee feels
however that future members of this Committee should consider
a similar show either in the Spring or Fall of next year.
The Committee also feels that this show proved that the
CorJtlUllit,-Centre can be used as a Connunity ani Financial
benefit in the future.
4. South End Building and McMahon Park
The Committee recommends that all rentals of these buildings
should be handled by the Clerk Administrator's department.

CHAIRS: The Committee recommends that 200 folding chairs be
purchased which also could be used at the Community
Centre and would save unnecessary damage and wear and tear
on present upholstered chairs.
Food andDrink -South End Community Building
The Committee recommends that food and drink should be served in
the South End Building auditorium only on special occasions and
only after permission has been obtained from the Clerk-Administrator's
department.
The Committee recommends that Smoking be prohibited in the
auditorium.
5. Maintenance-McMahon Building, Victoria Hall and South End
Building
The Committee redommends that an additional man be employed in the
Parks Department and Mr. N. Weller utilize this man and supervise
the maintenance of these buildings.
6. Name of South End Building
The Committee recommends that Council designate the name of the
South End Building, used by the Theatre Aurora as "The Factory".
