The proposal is for a 3. storey building with approximately

Item #1 -Letter 26-49 Elected Representatives -Seminar. Ontario
Traffic Conferen~:
This Conference will take place at the King Edward Hotel, Toronto
on February 28th, March 1st. and 2nd. 1974.
The Committee would recommend that Councillor G. Timpson be allowed
to attend this meeting and the noroal expenses be allowed.
Item #2 -Letter 3-41 Aurora Safety Council
The Aurora Safety Council have indicated that they will support the
Aurora Fire Department by purchasing 4000 "Heart Life-Saver Decals~
The Committee received this letter as information. Fire Chief
Burling will inform the Safety Council where to obtain the decals.
Item #3 -Letter 3-42 Aurora Safety Council
Supporting the Aurora Snowoobile Club in using approved helmets
while operating snowmobiles. The Committee would recommend to
Council that they should also endorse this idea. The Committee also
recommends that a letter be sent to the Legislature, M.L.A. Wm.
Hodgson, Minister of Transportation and Communications Gordon
Carton, outlining our endorsation of "Safety Helmets while
operating Snowoobiles". Copies to be sent to the Aurora Safety
Council and Aurora Snowoobile Club.
Item #4 -Letter 1-56 Aurora Safety Council
Letter from the Aurora Safety Council asking the men from the Works
Department while doing their rounds to make up a list of the hedges
and fences which obstruct the view of motorists. The Committee
would recommend that a letter be sent to the Aurora Safety Council
requesting that they prepare a list, to be submitted for Council's
consideration.
Item #5 -Letter 1-Aurora Safet Council
The Committee woul ike to spend more time investigating the
recommendations in this letter. The Committee would ask the Clerk
to contact the York Regional Police and Mr. John Ireland at York
Region for their comments in regard to the recommendations made by
tre Aurora Safety Council.

A meeting of the Aurora Parks & Recreation Committee was held on
Tuesday, February 26. 1974 at 8:00 P.I"!. in the Board Room of the
Community Centre.

Harman, Blick, Heptinstall; Councillor Timpson also
attended this meeting.
1. Art Show-Chairman P. Bailey advised that the Art Show will be
held in the Auditorium of the Community Centre on Friday I"!ay
3rd: Saturday, I"!ay 4th; and Sunday, I"!ay 5th. Admission to the
Wine and Cheese party will be $1.00 advance sale and $1.50
the night of the party.

2. Opportunity for Youth Grant -Mr. G. Sillico is applying for
this grant to be used to carry on the youth programme in the
south end of Town, which operated from the St. Joseph's
Separate School last season. Mr. Sillico will be attending
the next meeting of the Aurora Parks and Recreation Committee
to discuss his plans.

Mayor E. Buck presented a report of Council in Committee in
which the Committee respectfully submitted the following:
A meeting of Council in Committee was held on Wednesday, February
27th. 1974.
Present were: Mayor E. Buck.

Trent and Williamson.
Item #1 Little N.H.L. Tournament -Temporary Storage of Equipment
Council in Committee would recommend that as much seasonal
storage as necessary at the Community Centre building, be taken
to the former cells at 120 Yonge Street, South for long-term
storage, which would free storage facilities at the Community
Centre to facilitate the temporary storage of hockey equipment
for the Little N.R.L. Tournament.
Item #2. Corner Property -8'10" in width -Yonge Street, South:
mb& Olerk reported that no further action has been agreed to and
in that Mr. Corner and his solicitor, Mr. Forgang, who is working
on the matter, have not replied that they are willing to sell the
property that the Council recommends the Town's solicitor commence
immediate action to expropriate the property.

Item #3. Industrial Parklands east of the C.N.R. Railway Riv~t-
of-Way:
Council in Conmittee discussed this matter and would recommend
that an approach be made to the C.N.R. and their responsible Board
of Transport CotJIDissioners as necessary, to establish a grade
crossing at Dunning Avenue over the C.N.R. Right-of-Way which
is presently registered as a farm crossing. The Committee would
further recommend that the Town engineer prepare a preliminary
feasibility study of this proposal for further and detailed
consideration.
Item #4. Ontario Traffic Conference -March 1st. -2nd 4
Council in Committee would recomnend that ouncillor impson attend
the Ontario Traffic Conference in Toronto March 1st. and 2nd.
1974 and would recommend that the normal Convention expenses be
allocated.

Councillor Davis commented on the school board strike and
stated that as a parent and citizen that he felt the Council
should be willing to offer to do anything to attempt to settle
this dispute ru1d difference between the school board and teachers.
Other Councillors stated their personal opinions also.

"Resolved that the Clerk write a letter to the
Minister of Education, York County Board of Education
York Region District Ontario Secondary School
Teachers Federation, with a plea on behalf of the
citizens and students of the Town of Aurora to do
something to settle this serious situation, as
many students may suffer irreparable set-backs in
their education andfuat failing immediate settlement
or intervention that the Minister be requested to
invoke compulsory and binding arbitration and that
a draft of this letter be sent to other Municipalities
in York Region urging pressure to settle this
dispute."
