Mr. Hitch presented the Budget for 1973 requesting a Town Grant in the amount of $45,742.00. Mr. Hitch also outlined the operating procedure of the Library, extended hours and facilities were emphasized to Council "Resolved that the Library Budget be received and forwarded to the Finance Committee for consideration at Budget Deliverations." CARRIED "Resolved that Council will attempt to meet on Thursday March 8th, 1973 with the Library Board at the Library." Copely from Case Realty and Mr. Stu Barfit from Wilsons Hardware presented a proposed site-plan, and Building elevation sketch for the subject site. 11 Home Hardware" will be building the proposed building. The Commit tee if of the o=•ir.ic·n this proposal has merit and recommended the application be considered further by Council. 2. Proposed "Gas Bar", Gateway Plaza, Wellington St. W, Mr. K.D'arby and Mr. N.J. Melnick, Solicitor for the owners, appeared before the Committee to present a plot plan showing ~he exact. location of the Gas Bar, and also presented some coloured photos of a similar use at another location in the Town of Markham. The Committee advised the two applicants that the photos and plot plan would be presented to Council. 3. Official Plan Amendment #5 "Canadian Legion Building" -Industry Street The Committee supports this Amendment and also the proposed exception to the Zoning By-Law 1863. 4. Official Plan Amendment #6. "Day Care Nursery" -Mary Street, The Committee recommends to Council the feasibility of trying to secure another location more suitable, bearing in mind the Area Services comments of being unable to support the amendment. 5· The Committee is recommending to Council the feasibility of opening up Industry Street from Yonge Street, south of the railway, northerly to the St. John's sideroad, 6. 240144 Investments Ltd. (Herskovits) The Committee, after perusing the revised Landscaping Plan, and a recent letter from the owners, recommends the following: (1) The northerly limit of the property (N 7Y 4 1 1011 E 450') which now has large pine trees need not be planted with Lambardy Poplars as previously agreed to, and thus the pines Will suffice. (2) On the "Site Plan " drawing, "Townhouse Site A", there is no Hodel "A" or "D" shown only models "B" and "C", As the developer wishes to erect the 4 model types first, and as only 2 are shown in the first grouping, the Committee recommends the plan be revised to allow type "A" & "D" to be included in the first grouping. (3) The 4 "Model Types" as agreed to by Council in Committee be accepted. CARRIED ·--,~ ~, .. ~/ REGULAR MEETING -10-February 19th, 1973 REPORTS 2[ COMMITTEES CONT'D Council ~ Committee Report #18 Mayor Evelyn Buck presented a report of Council in Committee in which the Committee respectfully submitted the following: A meeting of Council in Committee was held on February 8th, 1973 at 8:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers. Present were: Councillors: Davis, Henderson, Miller, Roberts, Simmons, Stewart and Timpson. Mayor Evelyn Buck was in the Chair. Town Engineer J. D. Reid and District Engineer Robert Dawson were also in attendance. The meeting was called to discuss technical, economic and social aspects of plans for the re-construction of Kennedy Street, West. After careful analysis and since tenders for the project had been called in two separate parts, it was decided to recommend to Council that the Yonge Street to George Street section be proceeded forthwith, and that plans for the second section be abandoned until the residents themselves request improvements. The Committee also agreed, in view of citizens' appeals for dialogue with the Council on the Kennedy Street project, a further special meeting would be called -_:-:---·-for the purpose of an open forum on the subject. The second meeting was called for February 15th, 1973. Thirty two residents and press representatives were present. The meeting convened at 8:00P.M. and adjourned at 10:30 P.M., at which time it appeared all the questions that could be asked had been asked, and answers, acceptable or otherwise, had been given by the Town's professional advisers and elected representatives. A further Committee meeting was held February 19th, 1973 to discuss arguments ::c---~~o-brought forward by the residents on various aspects of the project. Present were: Councillors Miller, Trent, Timpson; Members Dawson, Sorley, Caruso, Crump, Blick; Recreation Administrator E. Batson, Recreation Co- Ordinator T, Anderson and Parks Foreman N. Weller, 1. 2. 3. 4. Art Show -The Art Show is scheduled for Friday, May 11 through Sunday, May 13th, The same format to be used as in 1972. Wine and CheeseParty to be held Friday evening May 11th. Further report to be submitted upon finalization of plans. Appreciation Night -The 3rd. Annual Appreciation Night is scheduled for Friday, May 25th. Council will receive invitations shortly, This expenditure is budgeted for. South End Citizen's Delegation-This delegation was heard through spokeswoman, M. Berthiaume, who outlined the Association's plans and requested use of school (Regency Acres) etc. A copy of this brief is attached, Letter re Tm<n League Ice Time -1973 & 1974 Season -A letter was rend from Mr. W. Harris regarding next year's ice time being one evening instead of two evenings as at present. As everyone realizes, the ice time is at a premium and it is physically impossible to allot 5 consecutive hours in one evening; however, the Committee has asked Community Centre Manager, E. Batson to go over the schedule for next year and report back to the Committee. . : : ~ REGULiJl MEETING -13-February 19th, 1973 REPORTS OF COMMITTEES CONT'D 5. Ontario Parks Association Membership Fee -The Committee recommends that the annual membership fee of $8.00 be paid. 6. Letter from Agricultural Society -A letter was read re use of Community Centre on the weekend of the Horee Show. Mrs. McMain is to meet with Mr. Batson to discuss this proposal. 7• Food Islands -The Committee recommends the purchase of two of these islands at a cost of $300,00 8. Gestetner Machine -The Committee recommends the purchase of this machine •~ith the cost being shared by the Community Centre and Parks & Recreation Committee. This amount has been budgeted for ••• $ 66o.oo, plus tax. 9. New Works Site -The Committee recommends that the Works Committee and the Parks & Recreation Committee meet to discuss the new works building with a view to housing the Parks equipment and employees. 10. Toyota Tournament -The Committee recommends that a chicken dinner be purchasfdfor each boy participating in this tournament. Diru1er to take place at 1:30 P.M. in the auditorium and all members of council are invited to participate. This tournament is again a first for Aurora. Cost of this dinner not to exceed $200.00.
