Aurora Day Care Centre.
Mrs. Bethune presneted a brief on behalf of the parents
with children attending the Aurora Day Care Centre
requesting Co~cils support in having the Aurora Day Care
Centre taken over by the Region of York,
Trent: "Resolved that the <l:>uncil endorse the brief and
Miller: petition the Regional Council to take over the
Aurora Day Care Centre and that Dr. Slingerland be
invited to meet with the Council in Committee to
discuss the whole question of day care centres
in Aurora."

Public Safety Committee Report No, 232
Councillor Simmons presented a report of the Public Safety Committee in which
the Committee respectfully submitted the following:
A meeting of the Public Safety Committee was held at 8:00 P.M. on Thursday
August 31st, 1972 with the following in attendance.
Councillors: J. Williamson -Chairman; R, Simmons -Vice-Chairman; P. Miller -
Member. Also present were Councillor N. Stewart and Staff Inspector
W. Harkness of the York Regional Police.
A tour was made of the Town to check on regulatory signs and the following
recommendations are made:-

A speed limit of 25mph be set for the Town of Aurora, but the speed limit
on Yonge and Wellington Streets remain at 30 m.p.h. except in the vicinity
of the Snr. Public School and the new High School on Wellington Street
West, where the speed limit should be 25 m.p.h. Suitable signs should be
erected and the By-Law changed.
The Yield sign at Davis Rd. and Murray Dr. be changed to a Stop Sign.
The Yield sign at Richardson Dr. and Murray Dr. be dhanged to a Stop
Sign.
The Yield sign at Davidson Rd. and Murray Dr. be changed to a Stop Sign.

2. A letter from the Aurora Orchards Homeowners Association dated August 29th was
discussed and it was unanimously the concensus of opinion that a Four-Way Stop
at Devins and Banff would not serve as good a purpose as the present Stop signs
on Devins and could cause accidents.
3. A letter from the Department of Transportation and Communications re traffic
lights at Dunning Ave. and Brookland Ave. was discussed and it is recormmended
this letter be tabled until the report from our Engineer re these lights is
received and Mr. Reid be asked to expedite this report,
4. The Committee recommends thatsigns be erected "Hidden Driveway" for the westerly
Sterling Drug driveway on Murray Drive.

Councillor Stewart in the Chair
Council in Committee Report No, 234
Mayor Illingworth presented a report of the Council in Committee in which
the Committee respectfully submitted the following:
A meeting of the Council in Committee was held on Monday, &eptember 11th, 1972, at
8:00 P.M.
Present were: Mayor R.A. Illingworth; Councillors: W, Davis; I. Harris; E.
Henderson; P. Miller; R. Simmons; N, Stewart; W. Trent and
J. Williamson.
1. Interim Policy on Rural-Residential Development:
Mr. Murray Pound and Mr. Randy Alcorn of the Regional Planning Department met with
the Committee to discuss the proposed interim policy on rural-residential
development.
Mr. Pound presented background information and an explanation of the proposed
policy;
The Committee recommends that the Interim Policy on Rural-Residential Development
be adopted by the Town of Aurora and that the Regional Council be advised that this
Council supports this interim policy.
2. vlorks Superintendent:
The Committee met with Mr. E.A. McGregor to discuss several matters:
(a) New Works Building: The Committee requested the report on the servicing and
requirements of the new Works building be submitted by Mr. McGregor and the
Engineer as soon as possible.
(b) Surplus Equipment: The Committee recommends that Mr. McGregor determine what
surplus equipment is of no use to anyone and dispose of to a scrap dealer and
that any remaining equipment of value be sold.
(c) Mr .• E.A. McGregor: The policy of the Town is for employees to retire at the
age of 65 years, hm<ever, if both parties agree, an employee may remain on
staff on a yearly basis until age seventy. As Mr. McGregor has expressed a
desire to continue on the staff, the Committee recommendsthat he continue in
his present position for another year.
3. C.U.P.E. Agreement:
The Committee recommends that the proposed union agreement be ratified by
Council and that the Clerk prepare copies of the new agreement.
4. McMahon ~:
The Committee recommends that the Aurora Lions C1ub be invited to meet with
the Council in Committee to discuss the proposed new building for McMahon
Park.

5. 22 Yonge Street, South,
The Building Inspector has had a request for approval for the repairing
of the building at 22 Yonge Street, South, rather than total demolition of
the building.
The Committee recommends that the owner or purchaser be required to have a
qualified person examine and determine the structural safety of the building.

September 11th, 1972, be discussed item by item and
accepted."

CONSIDERATION QE BUSINESS FOR IVHICH NOTICE HAS BEEN GIVEN

Trent: "WHEREAS certain persons representing the Ontario Government,
Simmons: the Department of Transportation and Communication, have
from time to time indicated that the land has been acquired
and the route has been set out for the proposed 404
highway through York Region, and it has also been indicated
from time to time that the Department is waiting for Metro
Toronto to complete that section of ~04 between Sheppard
Avenue and Steeles Avenue before t~ey commence that section
through York Region,
THEREFORE be it resolved that the Aurora Council petition
the Premier, the Minister of Transportation and Communication
The Region of York and our sitting M,L,A. to proceed with
that section of proposed 404 Highway through York Region,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we ask the other member
Municipalities of York Region to endorse the foregoing
resolution."
