Mr. Robert Sillcox and Mr. C. Hickson appeared before Council as a
Delegatioh to request the Council to reconsider its position on the
proposed closing of the C.N.R. Station mainly because of the announced
trial commuter rail service.

and that a telegram be sent immediately to the Board of
Transport Commissioners opposing the closing of the

a brief on traffic control in the north west quadrant of the Town.

Councillor Davis presented a report of the Council in Committee; in which the
Committee respectfully submitted the following:
A meeting of the Council in Committee was held on August 28th, 1972, at 8:00 P.M.
Present were: Councillors: Harris, Stewart, Davis, Henderson, Simmons, Williamson,
Miller.
Council in Committee appointed Councillor vi. Davis as Chairman for the evening.
1. Pollutech:
Council in Committee were pleased to meet with Dr. Norman and Mr. Hill of Pollutech
who discussed their report on the Pollution Control Centre and their invoicing
costs. Following the explanation of their invoice charges, Council in Committee
would recommend that the amount of $4,553.98 which is still ~wing, be authorized
and paid to I'ohutech which will bring the final cost of the study to $16,418.69.
2. H.A. McLean -re: ~· Thomson's Brief:
Mr. McLean was given a copy of Rev. Thomson's Brief which was presented to Council
on August 21st, 1972.
Council in Committee would recommend that the Public Safety Committee ccneider no
parking on the north side of Dunning Avenue in the vicinity of McLean Motors which
may partially solve some of this problem, and to report further to Council.
3. Mark Street Re-construction:
(a) The Committee would recommend that Mr. Paul Gleason of J.D. Reid and Associates
check on the north side crowning of the road and curbs above the lawn grade of No.
20 Mark Street and also check if a retaining wall is required on the south side of
Mark Street.
(b) The Committee would recommend that the Engineer be authorized to investigate
and install approximately 225 Ft. of Credit Valley Limestone wall where necessary
and the Engineer to have authority to determine if a separate contractor for the
erection of the walls is more practical.
4. Aurora Tigers Hockey Club:
The Committee considered the brief which was presented by representatives of the
Aurora Tigers Junior "A" Hockey ;.Club and following explanation and discussion from
the Recreation Administrator the· Committee would recommend that the fee schedule,
as submitted by the Parks and Recreation Committee, be approved and that the
Tiger Hockey Club be advised that the same contract as had been negotiated for the
Tigers Junior "E" contract will be made available to them for signing.

5. First Annual Toyota Tournament:
The Committee would recommend the acceptance and approval of the First Annual
Toyota Tournament on February 23rd, 24th and 25th, 1973 and would request the
Recreation Administrator to look after details of bookings etc.
6. Visiting Swedish Team:
The R1rchasing Agent is requested to determine a cost of having suitable Banners
prepared welcoming the Swedish Team to be printed in English and Swedish,
approximately 10 -15 ft. long.
7. Provincial Court Lease:
The Committee would recommend, an explanation from the Clerk-Administrator, that
the Mayor and Clerk be authorized to sign an offer to lease the rental of the
Auditorium for Provincial Cou~t purposes at the rate of $6,960.00 per year.
8, Solandt Commission:
The Committee discussed, at length, the Ontario Hydro Brief to the Soldandt Commission
The Committee would recommend that the Clerk be authorized to advise the Solandt
Commission that the Town of Aurora does not object to the proposed Hydro routing.
The closest lin6 of which is planned on the middle alternative B. route on the
east side of proposed highway 404. However, the Town wishes to reserve the right
that if the Hydro line location should ever be changed to the west side of the
proposed highw ay 404, that the Town should then examine its' position in relation
to property owners affected and Municipal plans and to establish and determine
a further brief.
9. C.U.P.E. Negotiations:
Council in Committee considered the Bargaining Committee's presentation and wou+d
recommend that the negotiations continue with an attempt to settle the contract
prior to conciliation within the guide-lines set out by Council and that if
unsuccessful at the meeting of August 29th, 1972, to appear and present the
Town's position before the Conciliation Officer as set out on September 1st, 1972,
10. Machell Park Creek Stablization Project -Ivan Daniels Land DID6pute
The Clerk was requested to submit, in writing, a report pertaining to this area
and of his knowledge of the referred Fact Finding Report as presented to Council
on August 21st, 1972.

Parks and Recreation Committee Report No, 233
Councillor Miller presented a report of the Parks and Recreation Committee in
which the Committee respectfully submitted the following:
' A meeting of the Parks & Recreation Committee was held on Tuesday, August
22, 1972 at 8:00 P.M. in the Board Room of the Community Centre.
Present were: Councillors Stewart, Miller; Members M, Dawson, B, Blick,
F. Caruso, B, Sorley; E. Batson Recreation Administrator and
N. Weller, Parks Foreman.
1, Jack Wood's Park Following a visit by the Committee to the Ontario Place
Children's Playground, it is suggested that Jack Wood's Park be equipped
with playground equipment of a non-commercial type, namely; treus for climbing
tires on chains for swinging, etc. It is therefore recommended that Mr. N,
Weller ber asked to co-operate in preparing plans to equip this park for next
season and these plans will be submitted to Council for further consideration,

2. Fall Tree Planting Programme The Committee recommends that the fall tree
planting programme, as submitted by Mr. Weller, under separate cover, be approved,
The Committee would point out that the residents oflthe Aurora Orchard's
Homeowner's Association have expressed willingness to co-operate in the
planting of trees in their area.
3. Donation By the Aurora-Newmarket Kiwanis Club The Committee wishes to advise
Counc~l that the Aurora-Newmarket Kiwanis Club has generously donated fifty
tablecl (folding type) 30" x 90" at an approximate cost of $1,600,00, The
Committee gave approval for these tables to be transported from Toronto
at an approximate cost of $30,00. 'rhe Committee further rcccn_;enclo that a

4. Fall and Winter Programmes The Recreation Administrator reported on a
proposed Fall and Winter Programme and stated that this would consist of the
following classes: Ladies Slim & Trim; Children's Arts and Crafts; Model
Building; Drum Majorettes; Judo; Girl's Basketball; Girl's Ringette
(Floor Hockey); Girl's Good Grooming; Men's Basketball; Adult and Children's
Ceramics and Adult and Children's Art, The Committee recommends that these
programmes be endorsed by Council.
5, Aurora Minor Football League This league has requested the use of Machell
Park for it's football programme and also requests that the Recreation
Committee have football posts erected in this park, The Committee recommds
that approval be granted for the use of Machell Park and that Jack Chapman
give the Clerk-Administrator a price for erecting said posts, for Council's
approve!,
6. Winter Carnival The Committee unanimously agreed that Council be informed
that the Committee would prefer to see the return of the old, simple Winter
Carnival that was held in the Town Park for many years. It is therefore
recommended that the programme consist of Christmas Tree Burning, and
old-fashioned family skating, several other games for the children and, the
possible participation of the Aurora Squadron of the Queen's York Rangers
for the preparation of hot chocolate and hot dogs at a very minimal charge,
