Mr. Mike Mcher appeared before CounCil to enquire on the
status of his rezoning awlication for his property on Yonge
Street North for a hotel.
COUncillor Harris advised that the Pl.annin;J and Developnent
Ccmnittee woo1d be rreeting on August 15th to oonsider the matter
:further.
Mr. T. M:::Pherson, representing the property owners on the
west side of Yonge Street South, presented a petition to
request the Council's ronsideration of the purchase of the
property at the comer of Tetqlerance Street and Wellington
Street West to enlarge the parking lot.
Mr. McPherson also requested that ronsideration be given to the
aquisition of the other property and building on Wellington
Street West and east of the oomer property; the paving and
markit:g and possibly metering of the parking lot, and the
establishtrent of a parking authority.
Mayor Ill.ing\«;>rth advised that the petition 'WOUld be referred
to the Colmcil in Ccmnittee.
Harris: "Resolved that the 72 hour notice be waived and that Mr. Wes Nichols
StEMart: of the Gat.ewey Ratepayers Association be heard."

A meeting of the Parks arrl Recreation Ccmnittee was held on JUly 27th, 1972 at
8:00 P.M. .

1. Minor Hockey Ice Tine
Mr. Blair had been invited to attend the treetinf] with reference to a
letter he sent to the Ccmnittee expressing his eoncern with proposed ice
time which had been allocated to the Aurora Mmar Hocl(ey Association.
'lhe Recreation Administrator reviewed the progra11 and stated that the
best he rould do would be to start the sunday Mol.'1ring Sessions 15 minutes
earlier and this would give the Mmor Hockey anotl\er 13 minutes. Mr. Blair
expressed apprO\c.l of this suggestion and the CCmtlittee feels that this
problem has nr:M been resolved.
'Ihe CCmmittee therefore requests that Council approve the Winter Ice
Tline Allocation as previously circulated by the Fecreation 1\dmi.nistrator
2. SI.Ullller Parks Program
Mr. Tan l\nderson -Recreation Co-Ol:dinator reported that all aspects of
the surmer program is progxessing very favourably. Att.endanoe at the
various playgrounds is good and no problems are being (\lloountered.
3. SWjmning Instructions
Mr. l\nderson reported that the July swinrning InstructiOIS:tl cama to a close
on 'Ihursday July 27th, 1972 with a Red Cross Examiner ~ attendance. 'Ihe
REd Cross Examiner expressed pleasurer at the nunber of C)rildren passing
the tests and stated it was well above average. '!his :ill e good irilication
of the good inStruction and supervision of these classes.

Councillor Harris presented a report of the Planning and Developnent
Ccmnittee in which the Ccmnittee respectfully sul:mitt:ed the following:
A meeting of the Planning and Developnent Ccmnittee was held on Tuesday
August lst, 1972 at 8:00 P.M.

Mr. Chambers and Mr. Larltlert of EveJ:nore Investments were invited to meet
with the Ccmnittee, l:lcMever, they did not attend.
'Ihe Ccmnittee discussed thor~y the request of ~enrore Investmants for
favourable consideration and support by Council of the application before the
Ccmnittee of Mjustment for minor variance to the :f:>ning on the apartment
site to allow nore surface parking than the by-law p=nnits.

at the Cbuncil meeting of July 31st, 1972.
The Colrnittee reCCl1111ellds that the previous position of Cbuncil be endorsed
and that t.~e minor variance application be opposed as this site was
specifically zoned based on a specific development design acceptable to
the Council.
2. liltter 14-38 Iand Severances in Rural 1\reas:
A copy of letter 14-38 is attached to this report for the infolJllation
of all nanbers of Council as the camri.ttee feels that it's contents are
very significant.
Copies of the letter have been foruarded to I<1r. stu Brunett and to I<1r.
W. Dinsmore, Secretary of the Ccmnittee of Mjustment. _
The fact that an application to sever a parcel of land is granted by the
camri.ttee of .AdjustmEnt does not necessarily mean that a buildin;J pennit
can be issued and the Colrnittee reCCl1111ellds that the camri.ttee of .1\djustlremt
be advised to notify applicants of this fact, :r.mticularly for severances in
the fonrer areas of Whitchurch and King.
3. 'lbronto D::mi.nion Bank
The 'lbronto D:minion Bank has sul:mitted their plans for a new building
at Yonge and Wellin;Jton. The landscaped areas on the plan are shCMn as
to be sodded only. 'lhe 'Camdttee recamtends that a let:ler be sent to the
'lbranto D::mi.nion Bank requesting their consideration of sane additional
landscaping.
4. It:ltter 15-53 Ministry of Ccmmmity and Social Services
The Department has requested that if the Town has any objection to the
at;plication for ·registration of the property at 28 I.arrnont Street under the
Children's Boai:ding Hooes 1\ct, the CC1llllents be foruarded to the
l:epartrnent by August 18th.
The Buildin;J Inspector is obtaining further infollllation on the application
and a report will be sub:nitted to the O:Juncil in camri.ttee on August 14th,
1972.
5. It:ltter 14-37 Newmarket Draft Official Plan
The Ccnmittee reCCl1111ellds that the 1\rea Serv1ces Branch be requested to supply
sufficient copies of the Newmarket Draft Official Plan for the members
of Council and that the Newmarket Draft Official Plan be considered by
the Cbuncil in camri.ttee for ccmnents as requested by I<1r. Brush.

direction are on schedule, and in view of no recent status report, it
