Councillor Stewart expressed his concern about ~ item that appeared in the ·
previous weeks local newspapers about the possible amalgamation of minor hoc~y
and recreation hockey. He advised that the Parks and Recreation Committee had
instructed representatives of the Committee to meet with representatives of the
minor hockey association to discuss possible ice time availability, but at nQ
time during the meeting was amalgamation discussed or even considered.

guidelines.
REASONS FOR THE DECISION:
(1) There were no objections either written or verbal to the granting of the
consent.
(2) The Committee recognized that in severing off the centre piece, it was
creating two additional lots which would be bey?nd subdivision controm
but after checking with Mr. W. Falke, Solicitor, Department of Municipal
Affairs, it would appear that under existing regulations there would be no
alternative to yielding control over the balance of the property since the
two remaining lots would appear to be adequate in themselves.

Councillor Stewart presented a report of the Parks and Recreation Committee in
which the Committee respectfully submitted the following:
A meeting of the Parks and Recreation Committee was held on Tuesday, February
8, 1972, at 8:00p.m. in the Board Room of the Community Centre.·

A letter was received from Mr. French, stating that he wished to see organized,
a Musical Instrument Workshop in the area.
The matter has been referred back to Council in Committee for their consideration.
2. Letter re: 1972 Summer Games in Central Ontario
The Committee authorized that Councillor Stewart and Community Centre Manager,
Mr. E. Batson, represent the Aurora Parks and Recreation Committee at the 197?

3. Letter from Centennial College re: Students re9uiring Summer Employment
The Committee recommends that no action be taken as every effort is made to
employ local students for summer work within the Town.
4. Letter from Mr. Philbey re: Youth Oro~estra
This matter was referred to Council in Committee for their consideration.
The Parks and Recreation Committee wish to state that they heartily endorse
this project, but as this group needed a grant, it was felt that it shoUld
be referred to Council in Committee,
5 Refrigeration Course~
The Committee recommends that Mr. D. Patrick attend the Refrigeration Course
at Guelph University on May 15th to 19th, inclusive.
6. Lighting in Town Park
A request for additional light in the Town Park was discussed and it was decided
that it would be in the best interest of all to leave the lighting as is.
7. Recreational Hockey
Mr. L. Keffer brought to the Committee's attention that Mr. Bruce Butterworth
was having difficulty in finding enough local ice time fc~ the training
of his Novice "B" team which is entered in the Newmarket Minor Hockey Tournament.
The Committee authorized Chairman N. Stewart, Councillor P, Miller and Mr, L.
Keffer to try and arrange a meeting between Mr. Bob Middleton of Minor Hockey
and Mr. Bruce Dutte~rth to see if Minor Hockey could allow any of their ice time
to Mr. Butterworth.
The Committee recommends that the sum of $200,00 be ap1,roved for the Novice "B"
Hockey Team to pay for our ice time required to enter the Newmarket Tournament,

A meeting of the Cotincil in Committee was held on Monday, February 14~, 1972
at 8:00 p.m.
Present were: Mayor R.A. Illingworth, Councillors: Davis, Harris, Henderson, Miller

1. Trio Restaurant Renovations
The Committee met with the owners of the Trio Restaurant to discuss parking
facilities. The Committee recommends that whereas many other downtown merchants
provide no parking or facility contribution, therefore, the Public Safety Committee
study off-street parking and arrange meetings with the Chamber of .Commerce and/or
other merchants and groups and submit recommendations to the Council.
2. Meeting with Service Statigp Operator§
The Committee met with ten of the service station and gas bar operators to discuss
a request by some of the operators for a by-law to require the closing of gas
pumps on Sundays with the exception thatwo stations would open on Sundays and the
