MINUTES OF THE 19TH. REGULAR MEETING OF COUNCIL HELD IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERH
ON MONnhY, OCTOBER 19,1970 AT 8:00 P,M.
PRESENT: Reeve E. Buck, Deputy Reeve W. Trent, Councillors Davis, Harris,
Henderson, iinmons & Stewart.
k. B. Redger, Clerk, called the meeting to order and advised that Mayor
Illi11gworth was attending the inaugural meetiftg of the Muskoka Regional Council,
aftd requested that a Chairrnan,be appointed.
Stewart: "Resolved that Reeve Buck take the Chair in the Mayor's absence,,"

Reeve Buck expressed the Council's sympathy on the death of Pierre Laporte,
Minister of Labour, for the Province of Quebec, and the serious problems in
Quebec.
Stewart: ''Resolved that a telegram be sent to the Prime Minister supporting the

for the. construction of a seven storey, 52 unit apartment building on Gurnett
Street being rear portion of old arena site.

Reeve Buck presented a report of the Finance Committee in which the Committee
respectfully submitted the follo~nng:
The Finance Committee met at 8:00 P.H., October 15, 1970 with all members
present. The following items were discussed.
1. Works Mechanic -Six applications were received for the position of Works
Mechanic and three applications were selected for an intervieu. Deputy Reeve
Trent, Councillor Davis and Town Superintendent A. E. McGregor, to intervie~r
selected applicants at a mutually agreeable time and submit recommendations
to Council •

10. Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Week ~ (a) Your Committee recommends that the
Mayor proclaim the week of November 1st to 8th. as Poppy Week in Aurora.
(b) It is also recommended that permission be granted for the Remembrance
Day Service and Parade on Sunday, November 8, 1970 subject to the approval of the
Chief of Police.
(c) It is further recommended that the Town purchase a memorial ~rreath and arrange
for the cost of the printing of the programs as in previous years.
11. Participation House -Your Committee recommends that the Participation House
Building Committee, a project of the Cerebral Palsy Parent Council of Toronto
be authorized to sell lottery tickets in the To<·m of Aurora.

Parks Development Committee Report No. 227
Councillor Simmons presented a report of the Parks Development Committee in
\<hich the Committee respectfully submitted the following:
A meeting was held on October 16, 1970 at 3 p.m. to open and award the tenders
for the supply and laying of approximately 3 1 500 yards of sod at the Community
Centre.
Present were: Councillor R. Simmons, Councillor E. Henderson, N. Weller and c.
Duncan.
Five Tenders were received as follows:
1. Richmond Sod Landscape Contractors Ltd. :32¢ per yard
2. Vic Priestly Landscape Contracting & Design 35-1/2¢ per yard
3. Dol Brothers Sodding 38¢ per yard
4. Frank Mahy & Sons 40¢ per yard
5. Tony Vanderloo 48¢ per yard
The Committee accepted the Tender of Richmond Sod Landscape Contractors Limited
at the unit price of 32.;: per square yard for the supply and laying of sod.
The approximate contract price is $1,120.00 for sodding.
Simmons: "Resolved that the Report of the Parks Development Committee dated
