COUNCIL IN COMMITTEE REPORT NO. 212
Mayor Illingworth presented a report of the Council in Committee in which the
Committee respectfully submitted the follo,qing:
A meeting of the Council in Committee was held on Monday, August 10, 1970 at
8:00 P.M.
Present ~rere: Mayor R. A. Illingworth, Reeve E. Buck, Deputy Reeve w. Trent,
Councillors Miller and Steltart.
1. Proposed Nursing Home on Kennedy Street West
A public meeting was held on August 5, 1970 at Victoria Hall at which Mr.
Liebeck presented his proposal to build a three hundred bed nursing home on
the former Col. Dan property. Approximately fifty residents of the area
attended.
The Committee recommends that Mr. Liebeck be notified that, in view of the
resident's opposition to the proposal, his request for a re-zoning of the
lands to permit a nursing home be not approved.
2. Cherry Subdivision
The Committee recommends that a meeting of the Council in Committee and the York
County Roman Catholic Separate School Board be convened at the earliest to
discuss their requirements for a school site in the Cherry Subdivision.

3. Police Committee Report No. 209 and letter number 14-48
The Committee recommends that Michael Warren be confirmed as a Third Class
Constable. The Committee recommends that Brian McDonald remain on probation
until he has completed the second part of the Police Training Course at Aylmer.
4. Ontario Fire Fighters Association 70th. Annual Convention
The Committee recommends that approval be granted to the Aurora Fire Department
to make application for the Ontario Fire Fighters Association 70th. Annual
Convention to be held in Aurora in 1971.
5. Parking on Reuben Street
The Committee discussed the complaint of Mrs. E. Cocking, 34 Reuben Street,
of cars parking on the north side of Reuben Street and on her property.
The Committee recommends that the Works Department be authorized to erect the
''No Parking Signs" on the north side of Reuben Street to the west limits in
accordance ~ri.th By-Law No. 1867.
6. Wimpey Subdivision -Planting of Trees on Orchard Heights Blvd.
The Committee recommends that the offer by the Subdivider to plant trees on
the boulevard of Orchard Heights Blvd. be accepted.
7. Police Chief's Order 7/70
The Committee recommends that no further action be taken.
8. Industry Street North
The Committee discussed the offer to purchase of Town-owned lands on the
west side of Industry Street North by adjoining property owners.
~e Committee recommends that no action be taken at this time on the offer.
9. Ontario Federation of Agriculture
The Committee discussed the Federation's proposal concerning education costs
and the Committee recommends that no action be taken and that the Federation
be so advised.
10. Obstructions on To>m Boulevards
The Conunittee recommends that copies of by-laws be obtained from the Boroughs
of North York and York regarding the use of boulevards for planting of
shrubbery, erection of fences, and obstructions.
11. Yonge Street Connecting Link
The Committee recommends that Mi. J. D. Reid be advised that the Council is
not satisfied with the design criteria for the driveway en.trances \•here there
are retaining walls and that corrective action be recommended by the Town Engi:-,

The Committee recommends that the Engineer be requested to submit a report on the
deterioration of the concrete retaining walls on Yonge Street South, as soon
as possibleo

FINANCE COMMITTEE REPORT NO. 213
Mayor Illingworth presented a report of the Finance Committee in which the
Committee respectfully submitted the following:
Reference is made to Item 10 of Council in Committee Report 208 1 dated August
4 1 1970 which was referred to the Finance Committee for further study and
report.
A meeting was called for Wednesday, August 12, 1970 at 7:30 P.M. Mayor
Illingworth; Recreation Director Barry Young, Recreation Committee Chairman
L. Keffer and Mr. Ron Tulloch were present.
The Recreation Director presented a report outlining the work still to be
completed, wnich included:
Completion of the black 611 safety strip around tle pool perimeter.
Completion of the exterior wall building (closest to the pool)
Completion of the Wading pool -resurfacing and painting.
Completion of Men 1 s shower area
To correct depth marks, where possible.
The above referenced items were agreed to by Mr. Tulloch.
