CARRIED From the Ontario Water Resources Commission regarding the proposal to double the capacity Qf thre existing control centre by using the conventional activated sludge process, "This is the long awaited answer to our letter regarding the addi- tion to our disposal plant, I spoke to Mr. Barr, the writer, last week and I was aware this letter would be forwarded for this Monday night meeting of Council. He also mentioned that he would like to meet with Council.and the Committee to discuss this letter. I informed him I would like to set a date as early as possible." DON GLASS RE: AURORA JAYCEES "66 DAYS OF SAFETY". -5-7th March, 1966, ''I would like at this point to introduce Mrs. Evershed who is the new stenographer for the purpose of taking the Minutes of the Council Meetings,'' Brief presented by the Aurora Jaycees regarding traffic safety, Aurora Junior Chamber of Commerce "66 Days of Safety" Presented to the Aurora Town Council March 7, 1966, Your \~orship -Members of the Aurora Town Council: We, the Aurora Jaycees, wish to thank you for this opportunity to present our annual delegation and recommendations on traffic safety in the Town of Aurora. It is the intent of the Aurora Jaycees with the co-operation of the Aurora Police Department, to implement a complete and com- prehensive safety programme, This programme has already started. We are calling it "66 Days of Safety". Our programme will include: PaiH~ · ing of the school warning signs, a safety poster contest in the Public Schools, the Dept, of High- ways Traffic Safety Lane, bicycle Road-e-o, teen-age safe driving road--e-o, and a publicity campaign stressing safety in our community. You will note that the programme is heavily slanted toward the public school aged child, So that this programme might be a complete and lasting success, we wish to make the following requests of the Aurora Town Council. (4) That the crosswalk lighting system as implemented by the VillagtJ of tlarkham be adopted by the Town of Aurora. (5) That a survey be made by the Aurora Hydro Electric Commission immediately with the view to up-- dating and increasing the street lighting on all the streets in the community. In particular we we"' like to see the lighting on Yonge Street incr-eased immediately. It is further-suggested that lighted street name signs be used throut::'l-- out the community. (6) It is a disgrace that a cor:mo··. it'y the size of Aurora does not include in its Police Budget BEY funds for the expressed use of traffic safety. The Aurora Folic· Department with the limited budge and manpower available to them l::c. done a tremendous job in this are; . It is our-strong recommendation -::::c.·. the Aurora Police Department have on staff a full time safety officer, so that he might implement a co'.il--- plete safety programme in the com- munity. We, the Aurora Jaycees, are knc; across the Dominion of Canada as leaders in traffic safety, havinc won the National Safety Award for our Community four years in a row. They are prepared to undertake a pro~ gramme of installing lights designs-' ting certain streets. I believe they are going to experiment with four streets and are awaiting Council's decision as to what streets," "I believe they have to wait until the frost gets out of the ground because of the underground cables." "On behalf of the Police Department I wish to say that we certainly do appreciate the interest shown by the Aurora Jaycees, Encouraging the school aged child in safety habits is certainly a policy which is very close to our hearts. If we train them in safety when they are young it is carried on as he grows up and makes for safer adults. The Committee felt there was justifica- tion to the objection presented as 90' buildings could be erected in any part of town, at the present time. We therefore present for your approval tho following resolution. Councillor l'iil!liamson presented a report of the Planning Committee in which the Committee respectfully submits the follow-· ing: At a regular meeting of Council on Nov- ember lst, 1965, the Planning Committee reported a request had been received to alter the house located at 41 Spruce St. to provide 10 self contained bache~ lor suites, each with its own entrance, bathroom and kitchen, Your Committee were in agreement with this providing certain recommendations regarding park- ing were carried out. This item was one of several ruferred to a special meeting of Council to be dealt with on Monday, November 8th, 1965. At the special meeting of Council on November 8th, this item was approved by Council subject to,, and I quote "Resolved that Item 10 of the report bu approved subject to on agreement to pave tho parking lot in reoJ: and the roquirod space only at the side and also an agreement be drawn up between the owner and the Town of Aurora that alterations to tho house be for single occupancy only, not for married couples" End of quote. Thurc is insufficient parking to accommo- date the families living in the apartments and shopping at the stores. Thoro is no control over the parking and too many c'ns are bGcking out dir- ectly onto Yonge Stroot. A recommendation has been for1.,rarded to th0 Planning Committee that futuro building permits for addi- tional throe storos bo withheld until a firm agree- ment hGs bean signed to cover perking in the rear for families in apartment and controlled parking in front with on entronce and on exit clearly marked.
