-15-May 3rd.l965
Councillor Illingworth as a matter of i!lformation read an
extract from a Brampton Newspaper:
The following is an extract from a mms item in '''The Dailc-
Times and Conservator," Brampton April 20,1965.
11r ,James Kno~, of ~1itchell Associates, presented sketches of a
proposed community centre to Chinguacousy Township Council
last nigh. The proposed bli.ilding ;rould have an 85 by 185 foot
ice surface on the main floor, six change rooms, a referees'
room, a skate sharpening shop, public washrooms, storage space
and a concrete slab roof. It might also contain e. hall on tbe
second floor to take advantage of the view over Bramalea tc the s
south. It ''auld accomodate 1, 500 patrons, plus room for
possible extension ..
Still to be decided is whether it would be partly a winter
operation or have year round activities on a dry floor, with
later ice all year round.
There would be parking for 150 cars >Fi th bus and staff parki.n;:
at the rear.
It w·as pointed out that the sketch before Council >Fas only 2.
proposal, but might represent an investment in t:1e neighoour-
hood of $300,000.000. A centre of this type would take longer
to build than a covered ice rink. Ther~ would
be a discussion period, a design period and r, four mont".
construction period, coupled with present shortage of
construction steel.
Councillor Corbett said he had received complaints of kids
thrmring advertising bills around and asked that the people:
responsible foro their handling be advised.
