Councillor Williamson, Chairman of the Police
Committee presented a report of the Police
Committee in which the Committee respectfully
submit the following:
Subsequent to a review of several applicants
for the position of a probationary Police
Constable, Aurora, The Police Committee hereby
recommend the appointment of:
Mr, David Knowles,

Aurora ,.Ontario,
as a probationary constable.
Duties to commence March 16 1 1964,
WILLIAMSON: "Resolved that the report of the
CHILD: Police Committee re; probationary
Police Constable be approved,
and the Seal of the Corporation be

Councillor Williamson Verbally reported the
Police Committee would meet with R,D. Cowley,
P. Eng, Director of D.H.O, Traffic Engineering
Branch, on Tuesday March 24th for discussion of
recommendations /l'l.ade in their traffic study
report, -
And warning notices will be put on autos
parked in the west side Parking lot whene
there is a two hour limit. Two warnings to be
given. prior to a summons being issued,
Councillor Williamson presented a report of the

The Committee met with the Bargaining Committee
of the Aurora Police Association on Wednesday',
March 4,1964 to consider an agreement setting out
the working conditions and wages of the members of
the aurora Police Department,

WILLIAlVISON: "Resolved that the report of the

1964 be accepted,''
Counicllor Williamson said it is necessary to
have an agreement as a basis and it could be
reviewed and altered ,.if necessary, next year
as this is a two year agreementJ Mayor Davis
complimented the Committee on Aurora's first
two year agreement with the Police,
Councillor Patrick Chairman of the Works Comm,
asked that the Town Superintendent be placed in
charge of the Water Works system, and said that
the water being used at present is 1/3 of the 3,ooo,ooo. gals available,
Also reported a survey of the Town water Shut-Off
Valves would be made and recorded ·on a master
plan for ~uture guidance,
PATRICK: "Resolved that the Town Superintendent
JONES: be in charge of the Waterworks
Department effective immediately, due
to the discontinuance of the ·
Engineering Department at present."

Councillor Jones, Chairman of the Property
Committee, verbally reported on the painting
and refinishing of the Central Water works build-
ing which was progressing favourably and the
Police could move in before Good Friday, March
27th, .
IVIayor Davis reported the Committee of the Whole
had met with the Public School Board and both
parties had gained something thereforo. There
would be no building program this year and
Provincial grants will be increased, The School
Budget will be ready this week.

Deputy Reeve Mrs, Moffat,. Chairman of the Special
Bus and Transporation Committee, stated she had
made enquiries regarding the proposal submitted
by Mr. Fitzpatrick on behalf of Miss White at
the last Council meeting that a temporary
franchise be given and had been adviaed by
Town Solicitor Thos, McPherson that the question
of a franchise must be submitted to the MUnicipal
electors,
MOFFAT: "Resolved that a letter be sent to
STODDART: Miss Whiters lawyer advising him of the
findings of the Town Bolicitor with
which Council concurrs,"
Carried,
Councillor Manning asked if Proctor & Redfern's
report had been received, Mayor Davis asked the
Clerk to call them,
Mayor Davis said he still gets complaints about
thswater and the mains need a good flushing,
Councillor Patrick replied it is necessary to
wait until danger of the hydrants freezing is
past and then all mains will be flushed,
possibly taking 2 or 3 months to get all the dirt
out,
Councillor Jones asked if Horton Steel Co, had
replied to the request to clean the water
reservoir, and was advised no answer has been
received and will w~ite again,
Mayor Davis enquired if w~. Kelner had replied
to the Town Solicitor's notice regarding the
repairing and paving Haida Drive, Mr, Kelner has
not replied:

The Tcwn Solicitor asked for direction in the
amo~nt cf damages to be claimed and the Council
decided to have the Clerk ask Beamish Construction
Engineers for a price.

of dogs in the Town of Aurora,. To
Provide for the coalection of a license
fee from the owner thereof, and to
prohibit dogs from ru~~ing at large and
that the same be now read a first time."

Mayor Davis stated he hoped we could set the
Budget next Monday night March 23rd, as the
Public Scho~l Budget will be in on this
Thursday and a meeting of the Committee of
the vmole will be held Friday, March 20th at
7,30 p,m,
Council~or Simmons requested the removal of the
Regency Acres sign on Yonge St. at Murray Drice,
as several people thought it is no longer
needed and Council is working to get Aurora
as Aurora and not individual areas.
SIMMONS: "RESOLVED that the Works Department

be done,"
