At this time, the Newmarket Council were piped into the Council
Chambers, where they were welcomed by Mayor Nisbet and members of
Council. Mayor Kent of Newmarket, presented Mayor Nisbet with a
scroll of greetings and best wishes from the Town of Nevmarket,
commenorating Aurora's Centennial,
mayor Nisbet thanked the Newmarket Council and extended to them an
invitation to attend Aurora's Centennial celebrationsCduring week
of June 30th to July 6th,

of the Canadian Rose Society, to be held in the

Councillor Moffat speaking on behalf of the Finance
Chairman, repartee that the Auditorls report has been
submitted,

Councillor Moffat also reported that floats have been
loaned to the Tovrn and the Girl Guides by ntiller
Paving and K,J. Beamish Ltd., and asked if all of

Mayor Nisbet suggested that Town employees be urged to
wear costumes during Centennial Week, particularly
the office staff.

Councillor Child presented a report of the Committee
of the iVhole re Golf Glen Terraces in which the
Committee respectfully submit the following:
Council as a Committee of the Whole met on Monday
June lOth 1963 and discussed at length the further
requests of the consulting engineers for Golf Glen
Terraces Ltd, regarding servicing costs pertinent
to the proposed subdivision.
The Committee recommends the following:
1. That sidewalks be constructed on F~irway and
Brookland Avenues nnly.
2, That approval be granted for an increase in the
total lot number of the Golf Glen Terraces
Subdivision fvom 48 to 57 lots, subject 3o
·concurrence by theAurora Planning Board and
approval by the Community Planning Branch,
Department of Municipal Affairs, but it is agreed
that only 44 19ts can be built upon at this time,

SAFETY
COUNCIL AWARD
-13-June 17,1963.
Mayor Nisbet displayed the Canadian Highway Safety
Council award ~esented to the Town, for the
distinction of having completed 1962 without a
fatal traffic accident and added, credit is deserving
to a great'many :people,
The Mayor also reported that tho Testimonial Dinner
honouring Tllr, N. Johnson will be held Wednesday
Juno 19,1962 at the High School,
OLD YONGE ST, The E-ngineer, J\lfr; • S. Murray,. :presented a report on
Old Yonge St. in which he said that water is being
found on the sides of the recently :paved road,. o;nd
unless ditching is done, the water may undermine
the road. ~.IIi', Murray :presented an estimate of ::noo,
for repair work,

Councillor Jones rejected the estimate and felt that
the Town men are c~:pablc of making the necessary
repairs.
Mr. Murray also reported that an attempt is being
made to :pump the now well with clear water, Ile said
that by continuing to pump,. the water will clear,
and can be fed into the Town's system closer to the
capacity of 2,500 gal, per minute,

well·,
Reeve Davis directed two questions to the Engineer, and
akkcd him what work has been dono on Industry and
Temperance St,
Mr. Murray replied that work on Industry St,, has been
temporarily halted, and tho Temperance St. project
has yet to be started,
Reeve Davis raised the question of the belfry on top
of tho fire hall, Fire Chief Jones seems convinced tht
tho bell should be lowered to the ground preferrably
tho S.E. corner. The Reeve also asked if the lots on
Ramson st. havc.been given final approval. Tho matter
was referred to the Plannir~ Board meeting, Tuesday
Juno 18,1963.
