Jones, presenting to council a very comp:r-esive report of the fires and ore rnti()n carried out by the fire department for the past year. "Also asking council to consider compensation for the volunteer firemen, CHILD: TilURRAY: "Resolved this report be reoeivod ·.a.'"ld filed," Carried, Reeve C,Davis informed council that Mr, J, Holmanis retiring from the Fire Department after 50 years of service and that council should in some way pay him tribute for his long term of service to the town, ~IDTION . RE: IRREGULARITIES Mrs, Buck appeared before council and was quite concerned over the election procudures, She asked council why a Town employee chaired the nomination meeting, how Deputy Returntng Officers and Poll Clerks were appointed? n~s. Buck informed council that there were irregularities in the distribution of Public School aallots to Separate School supporters, The Mayor replied that it has been the practise for years that a Town employee chaired the nomination meeting, It is very difficult to get experienced D.R.Ot"S an& Poll Clerks, incidently the clerk held a school for all D.R.O'S and Poll Clerks Saturday morning November 24, 1962, The Mayor kn:.ew of only one Separate School supporter reveiving a Public School ballot •. and continued to say that complaints of this nature were not a council matter and if desired should b e taken to the County Judge, I ''24TH REGULAR DEL.EGATIONS ELECTION IRREGUIJARITIES -10-December 17 1 1962, Councillor murray stated there were definitely irregularities in the distribution of ballots and possibly, as many as 200 Public Setiool ballots could have been given to saparate school s~pporters. I \ • .._c"' 24TH REGULAR UNFINISHED BUSINESS INAUGURAL MEETING RE: SPEECHES BY-LAWS BORROWING BY-LAW .. -1 ,_ December 17, 1962 Councillor Sinclair, suggested with regards to the inaugural meeting, that all sper_ches be curtailed to a minimum, He proposed the r~yor and Reeve speak on behalf of the Council, and one other individual on behalf of the various boards, It was decided this question be held over until the ffelings of the two new membera are investigated, MOFFAT: SINCLAIR: "That leave be given to introduce a proposed by-law to borrow monies in excess of 70% of the uncollected balance of the estimated revenues of the Corporation as set forth in the estimates adopted for the year 1962 and that the same be now read a first time." Councillor Corbett, in the same boat as Councillor Murray, stated he would like to serve on council ofr the centennio.l year, but for various reasons, had decided to retire.
