Subsequent to general discussion Councillor Sinclair withdrew the forgoing resolution, with Council so in favour. CORBETT: "Resolved that Sewage Treatment SINCLAIR: Plant Operator P. Carried. ., , __ 17TH REGULAR REPORTS OF COMMITTEES POLICE MATTERS UNIFORMS COOMBES, D. 5 YEARS SERVICE TRAFFIC HAZARDS SAFETY PATROLS -"4-September 4, 1962 Councillor Sinclair presented a report of the Police Committee in which the Committee respectfully submit the following: The Police Commitee met at 7.30 p.m. on Monday August 27, to review a considerable number of problems, which engaged their attention until 10.45 p.m. Present were the committee's chairman and vice-chairman, attended by Police Chief William Lan~an, Committee mmmber Councillor James Murray was an absent- ee. The Committee quorum wish to record their appreciation of the_ attendance of Deputy Reeve William Stoddart and Councillors Vic Jones and Cliff Corbett, all of whom made helpful suggestions in the course of discussion. The first item of business was the police requisition for uniforms and_accessories for winter and summer wear. Two bids for these were before the Committee and after a pro- tracted discussion it was finally agreed to accept the bid of Mr. Norm Cook, as indicated in a motion following this report. ·· During the discussion Councillor 6orbett suggested that the better method for future police requisitions for clothing would be, one requisition for summer wear made in.early spring, and a second requisition made in late summer for winter wear• This suggestion was unaminously accepted. C-:tnsideration was then given to the completion of five years' service in the Aurora p.olice force by Constable Coombes, tb~s entitling him to the arbitration award of 10¢ pev day, payable near Christmal>. This award is emltodied in a motion which I will presently subm:l . to Council. :~-- 17TH REGULAR ~.5-September 4,1962 REPORTS OF COMMITTEES POLIC~S _../~~c:_i::e.'Tii,~-~ The Committee then considered a number of traffic hazards locations named by the Police Chief in his report, Following discussion the Committee took the view that the Police recommendations were in order. Concerining what was regarded as a major hazard on Catherine Avenue at Yonge, Councillor Jones, Chairman of the Works Committee, advised that he already had the matter in hand, The Commtttee, with the assistance of attending council members, discussed the Police Chief's various recommendation for police staff educational improvements in relation to their duties, and the recommendations were generally approved·, School safety patrols were discussed and these are ..embodied in a resolution to be approved by Council Two other matters were discussed, but as these were left for further committee consideration at .its next meeting it would be inappropriate for me to bring them to Council's notice at this time, I will now summarise the complete business as aforementioned: 't, "That the report of the Police Committee be approved, that the purchase of police uniforms and accessories at an approximate cost of $838,00, including sales tax, as itemized in the bid of Mr, Norm Cook be proceeded with. 2, "That the report of the Police Committee in connection with the service award gained by P.C. Coombes be approved," 3. "As re9ommended by Police Chief Langman, that no parking be permitted on the south side of Wellington Streeteast extending for a distance of one hundred (100) feet east of Victoria Street, and that by-law 1464 be amended accordingly. 4, As recommended by Police Chief Lan~an, that no parking he permitted on the sourth side of Welling.:.. ton St, to Temperance St,, west from Yonge Street between the hours of 4,30 to 6,30 p,m, and that By-laws 1464 and 1519 be amended accordingly. As recommended by Police Chief Langman, that a "NO EXIT" warning sign be erected at the North ~est corner of Reuben and Temperance Streets. 6, On the recommendation of Police Chief Langman that Safety Patrols be instituted under the supervision of the Public School Board and the Police Department at the following locations: Wellington St and Wells Street Aurora Heights -Roving Patrol George and Tyler Streets Murray Drive and Glass Drive, All of which is respectfully submitted, SINCLAIR: CHILD: 11 ft(tolved that the report of the Police Committee be accepted and the Seal of the Corporation be attached hereto," Carried. PAINTING -SEWAGE Councillor Jones reported that he visi ted the TREATMENT PLANT Sewage Treatment Plant and met with representatives of Canadian Industries Limited regarding the recent paint job undertaken and with respect to rust appearing through the new paint in several places, A report of this matter was to be forwarded to the Town by Canadian Industries Limited and it was decided that a letter be forwarded to this company requesting this report, LOCATION OF Mayor Nisbet reported that the Aurora Board of PLACING C,N,R, BELL Trade were holding a meeting this evening and the matter of a location for the placing of the C,N,R. bell would be on their agenda for discussion. Ken Childs of Dunning Ave., Aurora, who supervised the installation of the Bradford Sewage Lagoons has invited Council to inspect these lagoons any evening or afternoon of this week or next week e~cept Thursday. It was decided Council members would attend, Friday, September 7, 1962 at 6.30pm. ASSESSMENT Mayor Nisbet reported that at the last committee APPEAL -SUNNYBROOK meeting the matter of Sunnybrook Investments INVESTMENT LIMITED Limited notice to appeal the assessment of their SCHOOL ROOMS REMINGTON RAND BUILDING WITHDRAWAL NOTICE OF MOTION FOLIC E COMMITTEE MEETING non-utilized subdivision lands was discussed, The nmyor reported he had subsequently spoke to IVJr, Lorne Cummings, Deputy Minister, Department of Municipal Affairs and Mr. Cummings had stated the Town should definitely fight this appeal when same occurs. Counl].illor Moffat reported she had visited the three rooms on the first floor being utilized at the Remington Rand Building for Public School pur~ses and had found them in perfect condition with the floors tiled, new desks placed, black- boards etc and that the teachers and pupils appeared very happy with these surroundings. Councillor Sinclair reported that at the previous meeting of Council he had introduced a notice of motion to be presented at this meeting and now requested that same be withdrawn. Councillor Sinclair scheduled a Police Committee meeting for Tuesday September 11, 1962 at 7. 00 P•lll• .. ; [~. "---' 17TH REGULAR UNFINISHED BUSINESS PROGRESS REGENCY ACRES PARK NEW BUSINESS STREET PAVING PROGRAM COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING DAVIS: STODDART: -8-September 4, 1962 Reeve Davis noted certo.in monies allot ted to pu11 in she.pe Vanek Park and enquired regarding progress at Regency Acres Park, Councill Murray advised this matter would be discussed at a Parks Board meeting to be held the following evening, DAVIS: STODDART: "Resolved that an appropriate letter be forwarded to Reeve Wallwork, Whitchurch Tovvnship expressing Councils' sympathy for the recent bereayement :~e suffered, Carried, Councillor Jones -What has become of our street paving program approved some months ago,, Following general discussion the following resolution was propesed, MOFFAT: STODDART: "Resolved .that the Town Engineer transfer Ws immediate attention from the water pump situation and concent.rat'e on the preparation of plans for th~ · approved road paving program; arranging for the calling of tenders." Carried.
