Mr. Rathenbury complained of amount of taxes
levied on his restaurant and stated the church
women organizations who were serving meals at
banquets were unfair competion as they did not
pay taxes or require a licence and requested they
be stopped, The Mayor advised him he could
appeal his assessment at the Court of Revision if
he believed it was excessive and he should prese-
nt his suggestions to the Ministerial Association
for their consideration,
MR. Wm. Baily and Mr. W.H. Cowling appeared for
the Baptist Church and stated that the church had
agreet to sell 5 lots on the north side of
Hillview Rd. and required sewer service to the
lots, and at present sewer service was not
available for Lots 44 and 45, Purchaser of lots
had agreed to pay one third of cost up to $350,00
DAVIS: "That the Council approve of an expendi-

$350, to extend the sewer on Hillview
Road and the Town will do the work, 1!

Councillor Corbett presented a report of the
Property Committee in which the committee
respectfully submit the following:
The Committee met and decided to recommend that
'the purchase of paint according to the attach-
ed copy of Purchase order # 2107 be authorized
and that the tender by R. Wrightman and Co in
the amount of approximately $1 1 087.00 be accepted
The total amount of the painting project shall be
approximately $1 1 400.00,

addition to the Sewage Treatment
Blant 1 be accepted, and the Seal
of the Corporation be attached

Councillor Jones reported that further to a
motion at the IVIay 7th. meeting of Council to
repair a water pump at a cost of t3dO, it is
now known that this will cost approximately
$800, plus tax.

Councillor Murray reported that the Parks
Board is now organized. That considerable work
had been accomplished and grass cutting would
be resumed after road oiling was finished, The
Board was enquiring into the cost of a hard
surface for the tennis court and a decision
would then be made,
Councillor Davisson presented a report of the
Police Committee in which the committee respect
-fully submit the following:
"That the applications of John I England and
Norman L. Lyon for Taxi drivers License be
granted,
DAVIDSON: 11 That the applications of
CHILD: John I England and Norman L. Lyon
for Taxi Drivers License begranted,

Councillor Moffat reported a motion was passed
by the Centennial Committee requesting the top~
of the fire hydrants be painted gold, Councill-
-or Moffat stated that she had advised the
Committee that the council has agreed to do
this,
Mayor Nisbet reported that John Thompson had ~
successfully passed his first year's exams of
the M.I,M.A. three year cours~.

Councillor Davidson reported observing a truck
dou led parked and obstructing traffic and
had received complaints, Mayor Nisbet advised
that this Should be drawn to the Chief
Constables attention,
Reeve Davis reported numerous pot holes on
Tecumseh Drive which needed repairing, Last
year the town had repaired this road, .·Mayor
Nisbet informed Coun:: il that the town had
been reimbursed,

Town Engineer S, Murr.ay reported that Mr.
Sorbara's Engineer had wanted the Council to

Mayor Nisbet asked the Engineer to get this
proposition in writing and council would
consider same t.

Councillor lV!ur~y asked if this by-law was being
brought in at this time because of' the excess of
election :posters on the trees• Cha;i.rman Moffat
advised him that it was but that it was necessary
t.o include addi tonal clauses to cover po1es,
fences et<:. Councillor Child stated that Etobi.,.
coke Township had a by-law forbiddinG-any signs,
Mayor Nisbet suggested getting a copy of this
by-law,

Reeve Davis asked if Town employees could take
down the election :posters. Mayor Nisbet stated
he had seen men with a truck doing this. . ·""
Councillor Moffat advised Council that one of the
candidates had told. her he would have his taken
down after the electi.on.
Councillor Jones reported the Engineer was reco~
mending the hiring of a competent firm to supply
and instal the necessary pipe, valves and connect-
ions for the emergency water pump and the new
pump and had received bids of $7,100 and $7,600.
It was decided to have a special council meeting
at 7, 30 :p,m. Thursday June 21st to study this
problem, The engineer in the meantime to get
further information.
