~etter from H.E. Seston, Chairman,
AJl+'ora Centennial Committee as follows:
Aurora is celebrating its centennial in
1963. Blans are now being made which
will include at.least one function
, each month, with a 'special week of
celebrations to high-light the year
between June 30th and July 6th. 1963,
We hope that 1963 will be a great year
in Aurora 1 s proud bistory• but we know
you will agree that, to make it so,
enthusiastic participation must be
undertaken by every organization and
eventually evvry member of the community.
It has been suggested that the centenn-
ial feature for January be a very spec-
ial inaugural of Council with some big
name persona:J_ity present to conduct
the ceremonies and .also a "junior
parliament" elected so that the yourng
people can run the town for a given
day. May we have your views?
We are asking that decorations of all
buildings be part of our celebrations
and hope that the necessary arrangements
re this phase of the year•s activities
will b,e considered by everyone now."
Resolved that this letter be referred
to the Services Committe,"

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
BY-LAW
RE GARAGES ETC
AURORA HEIGHTS
AND SUNNYBROOK
l&J,."'-
Councillor Murray stated that notices
had been mailed out concerning the
possibility of a hearing regarding
the changing of a by-law re erection
of garages and carports in Aurora
Heights and Sunnybrook Subdivisiors.
Councillor Murray stated this By-law
had received three readings by
Council last year and if he was·C'lt
of order please advise him< Councill-
or Murray then said the by-law in
question outlined first that it is
impossible to construct and second-
ly it referred to no building may be
constructed or altered on a vacant
lot. Councillor Child advised the
intent was to cover building on
vacant lots in the sub±division.
Councillor Murray stated his main
point was the fact of the 9 foot
required between say three lots ;-
i.e.
Lot A builds 3' from Lot line of B
Lot C builds 3' from lot line of B
Lot B must then stay 6 1 away from
the lot line to maintain the 9 1
required. · . ·. ··· ··_· ·. ·_··. ·

ELECTION DAY
IRREGULARITY

-11 -
Councillor Da'vidson stated he wishe~.
to discuss the matter of the elect~ )n
day irregularity and stated he had
heard the factsfrom the Mayor w'J.en
he informed Council, from the !'vll
Booth and from Councillor Murray
and saH. they do not vary one little
bit. Councillor Davidson statdd
since that time he had considered
this matter' and since it would
appear we have a poor case to allow
it to go to the Supreme Court and
feel we are throwing the taxpayers'
money away and suggest we withdraw
the case and forget about it.
Reeve Davis felt this matter should
wait until the Mayor is back and
stated he understood a further
notice had been received to postpone
the Su1reme Court hearing, This
should be a notice of motion for the
next Council meeting.
Councillor Corbett enquired as to
thecosts of the investigation and
the Town Solicitor estimated the ·
costs would have been quite modest,
approximately $400 .• 00 if the hearing
had been carried on but now will
· probably be taxed on a Supreme Cour j
basis and that he was unable to
estimate the costs now including
such items as witness fees etc,
Councillor Child stated the post-
on.ement of the hearing would bring
about more costs.
Councillor l'fJurray said it was brought
about by Council and not to blame
one individual, Councillor Murray
stated if it were more expensive as
it continues then don't continue it.
DAVIDSON: Notice of Motion for nex
meeting of Council
Be it resolved that the
Council's request for
the hearing be withdrawn."

Councillor Moffat advised that
Councillor Corbett and herself had
paid a vist to Miss Andrews at the
Public Library recently and stated.
that the present building is certain-
ly nothing for the Town to be proud
of and further that 1963 is Aurora's
Centennial and as a lasting memorial
felt Council should consider either
extensive work on the present build-
ing or possibly consider the construc-
tion of a new building and one where
space might be made available for
meetings. Councillor Moffat advised
that a visit had been made to the
Public Library in Newmarket and
requested Council to spend some
thought on this matter and compare
our Library with others.
Councillor Davidson remarked that
our Library has endeavoured to obtain ·
extra space by putting up shelves in ·
the centre and that he has said long
ago we should consider building an
extension on the back with a base-
ment arranged for the purpose of
holding meetings.
Councillor Moffat stated that the
Librarian's office is now the wash-
room and felt a new building is
~arran ted.
Councillor Child stated that at a
J.C.1 s meeting one of the points
brought up was the raising of money
for Library renovations.
Councillor Moffat stated she had
contacted Mr. Cathers with regard
to advanced 1967 grants but had been
advised that this was not possitie
but that the Federal Government would
assist under a winter works programme.
Councillor Corbett felt that Council
members should visit Newmarket's
Public Library and ascertain the
advantages they have over ours.
