operate a Front end & Wr:heel alingment business in the now existing
Aurora Beverage Building located on Berczy St was read.

A letter from the Aurora Softball League requesting Council for a
renewed effort to expedite the repair and addition of safety wings
to the back stops at.the Town Park was read.

directed by Council on June 22, 1961 and further advising Council
that Canadian Bricks only are used in all the Aurora Public School

A letter from Franklin McArthur Ass'ociated Limited, Consulting Engineers
concerning their interest in the various reports citing the inadequacy
of the Aurora Sewage Treatment Plant and further offering their exper-
ience in Sewage Treatment Plants and the undertaking of an ecomomic
study by them of several alternatives that might be available in the
matter of sewage treatment for the Town of Aurora was read,

A letter from the Purchasing and Stores Division , City of Toronto,
advising Council that offers to purchase will be received up to
September 21, 1961 for the purchase of the mechanical equipment
of the Delray Sewage Treatment ~ant in Toronto which is being
offered for sale by the City was read,

A letter f~om a Mr •. P.H. Pilon, 120 Centre St. Aurora applying to
Council for a connection to the Town sewer and in addition requesting
that a catch basin be installed to drain off rain and surface water
in the area of the north half of Centre Street was read.

A letter from the Toronto and York Roads Commmssion advising Council
that the Commission }).as decided to bear 50% of the cost of the. labour
for the work involved in the re-location of the water main on the
Aurora side~oad and that the balance of the cost of this work will
be chargeable to the Town of Aurora. The letter further stated that
the contract has been.awarded to REG_DON Ltd, for this work in the
amount of $3,500.00 for the to·~al cost of this watermain re-location

DELEGATIONS.
A Mr, Don Glass and a Mr. W, Morris appeared before Council on behalf
of the Lions Club of Aurora and Mr. Glass advised Co.uncil that they
requested permission to start proceedings to finish the bandstand in
the Town Park which had been partly constructed in 19~,'·49. Mr. Glass
stated he would like to obtain Councils agreement in principal for
this project and brought lJorward for Councils inspection an architects
sketch of the planned bandshell, Mr. Glass stated that the overall
cost would amount to $3,795.00, for this type of bandshell. Reeve Davis
inquired if the use of the bandstand will justify the cost and Mr. Glass
replied that the Town Band is now making progress and further that the
present acoustics in the Town Park stand are very poor and felt that
this type of new building will encourage the progress of the present
Town band.

Mr. Glass advised that his Committee will keep the Services Committee
in touch their progress with regards to con~truction. Mayor Nisbet
complemented the delegation for their activy in this regard and felt
that all organizations in Town are doing a tremendous job in matters
of public interest.
aEPORTS OF COMMITTEES
Reeve Davis presented a report concerning the Installation of
warning sirens in Aurora requested by the Department of National
Defence and stated that some year and half ago he had •· been in
conference with the Chief of Police and the Department of National
Defence representatives and two sites had been decided upon at this
time, one being on the roof of the Fire Hall and the second site on
the roof of the Regency Acres Public School, Reeve Davis stated
that he felt that Council should go along with this approval and
further stated that he had been assure~ that a distinct iifference
in sounds of sirens would obtain to eliminate any confusion with
the fire siren. Councillor Child felt that due to the preva:Ling
winds in the Town that a siren should be located on the roof of'
the Aurora Heights Public School when it is constructed as a third
location, The motion was amended to read as follows:

"Be it resolved that the Town of Aurora will permit
the Department of National Defence to negotiate for
and to install National Attack warning Sirens in
Aurora and that we recommend that the sites be in
the REgency Acres and Aurora Heights Public School
and possibly take over our fire Siren in the centre
of Town.

Deputy Reeve Stoddart advised that a Finance Committee meeting would
be held on Monday July lOth. 1961 at 8.00 p.m.
Councillor Corbett advised that Rose Bros. Haulage and Armitage
Construction Ltd, would visit Aurora To-morrow July 4th to offer a
price on earth removal.
Councillor Hammond remarked on lights required in the parking lot
and stated he had met with Mr. Copeland of the Aurora Hydro-who
felt there was not sufficient lighti£g in the parking lot area and
is arranging for extra lights to elivate this condition. Councillor
HBIJII!lond further advised Council that he had been attempting for ·several
we.eks to arrange a meeting with the Ontario Water Resources Commission
as they requested but had had no success, however Councillor Hammond
stated that on Thursday of last week he had phoned Dr, Berrys office
and confirmed this phone call on the following · '. Friday in writing
advising that they arrange a convenient time for such a meeting and
suggested that a copy of the letter from Franklin McArthur Associates
Ltd. be made available to him for this meeting.

"That the letter of Franklin McArthur Associates Ltd.
regarding consulting engineering services for Aurora
be answered to the affect that discussions are to be
held in the near future with the Ontario Water REsourses
Commission concerning this matter and that their
letter will be referred to the O.W.R.C. at that time."

Councillor Child brought forward af a letter from Sam Sorbara
Rea£ Estate concerning the feelings of Town Council with respect to
the construction and operation of a motel on the Aurora Heights property
and Councillor Child stated that he had phone their. representative
and all they had wanted was assurance that a motel would be permitted
and further the y had inquired about the possiblity or need for a meeting
place in Town and Councillor Child stated he had adtised that there
was such a need.
Reeve Davis stated that the Chairman of the Works Committee is away
this evening and that the chairman had held a meeting last Thursday
to discuss the matter of road paving of George and Kennedy Strs. and
had felt at this time that the prices submitted for this work were
out of the question. Reeve Davis stated that this matter is still
being considered and felt that maybe the Town'should go on .... there
own with the original intent to pave • Mayor Nisbet stated that
Councillor Moffat is attempting to arrange a meeting withthe Minsiter
of the Department of Highways of Ontario ,:·egarding this problem of
road paving and its estimatea costs. Reeve Davis stated that Councillor
Child had brought in a recommendation a year ago regarding paving of
streets in the Town of Aurora and felt that some kind of programme is
required now and further that the Town has until July 31st, 1961 to
obtain approval of its aupplementary road by-law. Councillor Corbet
stated that Council had contemplated under taking at least one street
per year on a paving programme and felt that Kennedy St W paving is
required the most and that its cost should be ascertained.
This matter was left over for a report at t:ne next meeting of Council.
Mayor Nisbet brought to Councils attention the matter of street lighting
required at the south e~d of Yonge St. and that the Aurora HYdro have
been notified to proceed with this matter. . n
Deputy Reeve Stoddart stated that the recent conference by the Associatiol
of Mayors and Reeves covered almost 100 resolutions for submission
to-gether with numerous addresses on topics of Municipall Affairs.
Dep111111yReeve Stoddart stated that copies of these addresses will be made
availble for Councils perusal and subsequent comments. Deputy Reeve
Stoddart further stated that some of the most. important :: . . r.esolutiom
discussed by the Conference will be made available to each member of
Council for their perusal. Deputy Reeve Stoddart added that it had
been the best conference 'that he had attended and Mayor Nisbet seconded
this statement,

Councillor Moffat reported to Council that the Deputy Reeve and
herself had attended Tri County Planning Meeting last Thursday
evening and that the meeting had been broken up into small groups
to discuss the matter of County Planning, Councillor Moffat
stated that a quick feeling of her opinion is that we are possibly
setting up another board, Councillor Child stated that in fairness
to the Aurora Planning Board he felt that this Tri County Planning
Board is necessary in order to circumvent Metroplitan Toronto Plan
f of controlling other municipalities, Deputy Reeve Stoddart advised
that the chairman of the Planning Board had made numerous notes at
this meeting and will present a report regarding this matter at the
next meeting between Council and the Aurora Planning Board. Reeve Davis
reported that'the feeling of County Council today is that the Tri
County Planning Board may resolve the situation concerning Metropolitan
Toronto assuming more control of outside areas.
Councillor Davidson presented a report of the Police Committee in which
the Committee respectfully submit the. following:
"That MervynTaylor be emplLoyed two hours
daily except :Sundays to maintain, repJ.ar and collect
the money from the parking meters,¥
DAVIDSON: Resolve that the report of the Police Committee
re maintenance and servicing of parking meRters
by M, Taylor be approved and the Seal of the

Councillor Davidson presented a report of the Police Committee in which
the Committae re~pectfully submit the following:

per week to $56.25 for the months of June, July and
and that his salary be reviewed in September."
Resolved that the report of the Police Committee
re Cadet Hillock's salary raise be approved and

Councillor Davidson stated that the Police cadet was quite agreeable
with this arrangement and he had advised the Cadet he is now receiving
much experience which ·;, should stand him in good stead when a new
Probationary Policeman is requied, Reeve Davis stated he did not
feel it is fair to raise a mans salary for part of a year and then
reduce him back to the original amount, and would rather see his salary
carried on for the full year, Councillor Child stated he felt the Reeve
is misinformed because at the end of August his salary will be reviewed
and he will be moved back to the Police Office when the girl presently
employed returns back to school.
The motion was then carried,

Councillor Davidson presented a report of the Pol:be Committee
in which the Committee respectfully submit the following:
"That an amendment to the "Parking By-law" be
prepared forbidding parking on the west side of Yonge Street
from the North Town Limits to the South town Limits between
the hours of 4.00 p.m. and 12,00 midnight on Sundays and
Holidays during the months of June, lfuly, August and September,"

Councillor Davidson requested the Clerk to notify the Town
Solicitor to be present at a meeting a 7.00 p.m. Wednesday
July 5th, 1961 regarding a ~olice meeting and further that
the Police brief be presented at this time in order that the
Committee may be familar with its contents.
Reeve Davis stated that at the previous Councill meeting a requ±est
for Fence Viewers in the Tmwn of Aurora had been referred to the
Town Solicitor on his return,
NEW BUSINESS
Councillor Child stated that !it is rc .. ·.:: advise able that Toronto and
York Road s be directed to erect a sign at the corner of Wellington
and Yonge Streets notifying the public that Wellington St, E is
closed while the watermain is being repaired, Reeve Davis explained
that certain membe.rs of the T & Y were on holidays and that
this matter is now being looked after,

Reeve Davis stated that the storm sewer staring on the other side of
the railroad tracks and carrying on down to Berczy St and Larmont St
that during rains a flooding condition is caused and felt that the
people should have some study made as to the direction of the sewer
c:c::l in order that another direction m;j,,ght be obtained in order to take
away this water,
