"That the application for Building Permit of British Petroleums.Ltd, for the erection of a serv-ice station at the corner of Regency Drive and Yonge St. be approved subject to the installation of the. water and sewage services being available," -\ Carried. • ., '4 ·, ' ! lV!ayor Nisbet pres_ented a. report of the Industrial Committee and advised Council that the Board o:f Trade had appointed Mr. M. Lysecki, Mr. D. Glass and Mr. H. Tuck1ey as their .members and that a meeting had been arranged between th~ Town Indust:rial.Qommittee and, the above mentioned men at 10 A.M. • to-morrow: morning. Mayor Nisb'et stated that nuruerous inquires had been <Tec'eived from Industries and that a new brochure of the Town was desperately required, ; ed . Councillor Corbett stat/that the Clerk had been instructed to forward notices regaraing a Parks Committee meeting for Friday evening January 20th, at 7.30 p.m. and further stated that he desired to organize a progr:mm for parks in order to be ready this coming spring. ' 2ND REGULAll"~c • --11....-JANUARY 16, 1961 Deputy Reeve Stoddart stated that the Chairman of the Public School Board had appeared at a meeting last week and had presented a forcast of the new public school required this year. Deputy Reeve. Stoddart stated the Public Schhol Board are makeing a survey to ascertain the size of school required and at pre~ent they are utilizing three portables at Regency Acres Public' School. UNFINISHED BUSINESS, \;· ·Reeve Davis inquired if anything further had been heard on the ff request from Mr. s. Kelner regarding the release of the bond. ' Deputy Reeve Stoddart stated that a meeting must be arranged with Mr. Kelner to further this subject. Dep:i;uty Reeve Stoddart also stated thath!;! was trying to arrange a meeting with Collis Leather as soon as possible ant! further that an assistant for the Clerk had been hired to commence duties on February 1st. Deputy Reeve Stoddart s;tated the gentleman hired had eleven years municipal experience as,~ clerk in an other municipality. Councillor Davidson stated we shoUld obtain the Aurora Heights · Agreement regarding the Petlovany property ~d study it carefully. Councillor Davidson stated lire was not satisfied with what he had heard and would like this matter straightene<:t out because in· his · opinion there was a hold back of some 52 houses and now hear · ~I that this is not.G:orrect. Reeve Davis stated we·have an obligation to extented ItrduEI:try c Street and this wail discussed last year and shoUld be started as soon as possible. Councillor Corbett stated this work was to b'e done under the winter w6rks programme. Councillor Child stated that the longer this matter is:left the more it is going to cost and we should obtain estimates of the cost of roads, sewers etc. Councillor Child stated he thought it was·to the Towns advantage to hire a.bu:lldozeiL a.few days and level up· the property. J\llayor Nisbet stated we shoUld investigate the matter of purchasing this property our selves and possible obtain the. funds from the Capital Levy Reserve Account~ Councillor Child advised a.that an Industry had. been intereste,d-in Aurora however following'a meeting with Mr. Bobara and his engineer the Indus11ry died anatural death because Mr. SobaraY.:;quoted a figure of approximately $8200. an acre. STODDART: DAVIS: "That we meet With Mr. Sobara as soon as possible to discuss this ~ituation." Carried. Councillor Davidson brought to Councils attention that the police cruiser · was presently given: trouble •... May:o:r: Ni~;~bet stated: that he had interviewed two concerns with regards to rental of cruisers and hope to have an an~wer within a week. ·~. i :1 ~J j ~'- I I I -· ( I ·~- \ 2ND, REGULAR -12-· .. , J>ANUARY 16, 1961 Councillor Child stated we should write to Mr. Sobara and send a copy to Mr. Maresse and asked them. if they have patched up their differences regarding the commerdial property on Yonge Street and Aurora Heights Drive and further.that they should both be present here for a meeting with Council. · Councillor Davidson inquired of the Clerk regarding the progress of approval by the Department of fransport of the General Traffic By-law and the Clerk advised'that the Department of Transport should be approving this by-law shortly. NEW BUSINESS -REEVE DAVIS IN THE CHAIR •"j' Mayor Nisbet brought to Councils attention that the centenfuial of the Town of Aurora would be in 1963 and suggested that a committee be a:p:pointed.for this :purpose this year. Councillor Corbett inquired what Committ® of Council will work with this committee and it was decided that the Services Committee " would do so. Mayor Nisbet stated he felt the committee should be set u:p for a .:period of three years and that the Chairman of Services should be a member of the -Committee. Councillor Child stated it should be recommended to Mr. Seaton to call on older residents of the Town of Aurora for concrete sugg~stions regarding the Town as it was years ago. REGULAR -14-JANUARY 16, 1961 ··Councillor Moffat inquired regarding the Police Committee report concerning taxi and if there is just the one taxi firm in Aurora and Chief Langman replied yea. Councillor Moffat stated that residents complain of poor service and is the present taxi giving a 24 hour service and are they suppose to. It was ascertained that the estate of the late Taxi owner is now attempting to find a buyer ·for the business and Councillor Moffat stated we will wait and see what transpires.in this instant. Councillor Davidson brought to Councils attention that the chimney at Queen City Storage has been causing quite a smoke problem and many complaints have been received especially when a north west wind is blowing. Councillor Hammond stated that thre·e letters had been received from Queen City Storage and they had advised that if they failed in selling the property in the very near future they would consider putting in new equipment to replace the present burner and further that they felt to go to any additional expense at the present time considering that a sale might be pending was not feasible. It was decided that another letter be forwarded to Queen City Storage to remind them of this smrwke problem. Councillor Corbett inquired if it is intedded to start on a x zoning by-law this year and Councillor Child advised that that is one of the intentions this year to finalize the c.; zoning by-law. Councillor Child stated that the Planning Board consultant is aware of our need for a zoning by-law and further that he is experienced in this matter having drawn up one for the Town of Goderick and felt sure by the end of 1961 we will have a zoning by-law in. the Town of Aurora.
