A letter from the Co.unty of Yorkenclosing a report of Magistrate
Roberts to County Cound:il concerning the :organization of a County
Police Force and stat:i,ng that this :naz report will be considered
further at a meeting of County Council on December 29th. 1960 was
read.
l\!ayor Murray s;tated that unless any unforseen evidence comes
·'forward Aurora is not inte~ested. . Reeve Davis explained that· this
·'recommendation goes before all. Councils in the County of York·to
digest anii study and then· make a recommendation to.the County if
they so approve, Reeve Davis stated that the recommendation should
be unanimous before it would be passed by Cdunty and felt a that
the report should be giV!en a. complete study and further that. there.
w6uld have to be a special bill passed through the legislature in ,
6rder to make this report effective. Council dedided that

Reeve Davis would present the 'rown of Aurora Council's recommendation··
to County that the Town is not interested as of this time •

A letter from W. H.C. Bailey, Town Solicitor regarding Kennedy St, W.
be dedicated as .a public highway from Mr. and Mrs. Donald Kiteley's
property west to the end of the street was read,

meeting of Council in 1961."

A letter from K.J. Beamish 6onstruction Co. Ltd. referring to the
fuost westerly 565 feet of asphalt sidewalk constructed on the south
side of Aurora Heights Drive which was not entirely satisfactory
and further stating that the complete removeal and replacement of
existing sidewalk would cost the Town of Aurora an estimated amount
of $300, to $400.
Councillor Hammomd stated that it meant changing the entry levels
of 5.to 6 driveways and·Councillor Hammond stated he was of the
opinion that the Town is responsible for the level of the rear of
\, these driveways. Deputy Reeve Patrick stated that a meeting was held
\ with regards to the sidewalk problem and it was.determined that it
was part our fault and part their fault. Councillor Hammond stated
that.he had no objection to accepting the figures outlined in
Beamish's letter the only objection i~ that the level of the driveways
may be altered and this would be our responsibilty. Councillor Child
felt that this matter might be held over until we may see the problem
when the situation arises next spring when the job is undertaken.

of their service in the Municipal Engineering Consulting field

A letter from Kelner & Cooper requesting the release of the Contractor's
Bond of Penville Construction on deposit with the Town of Aurora
was read. ·
This letter was referred to new business.
A letter from Franklin McArthur Associates Limited advising of their
Company's set up to assist the Town of Aurora in Enginaering Consulting
Services was read.

A letter from the Department of Planning and Development regarding
the recent press anouncement of the Minister of the Department
' regarding a new method of providing low rental housing for those
citizens of Ontario who are financially unable to obtain adequate
accommodation for themselves and their families was r~ad.

A. report from H.R. Jones, Fire Chief, Town of Aurora ll[Jin!:ixg covering
the activities of the Aurora Fire Department for the 1960 was
read,
Mayor murray enlarged on the activities of the·:jiiire Department
and iixR its education program and stated that 124 calls during
the year was indeed low for such an area. Reeve Davis stated
Aurora has a Fire Department second to none and a good conscientious
Fire Chief, Councillor Stoddart commended the Eire Department
on its excellent work.

Councillor Hammond brought forward the matter of extra Chrismmas
funds for families on relief and stated that he would not like to
mention any amount in dollars and cents but felt that this was a
worthy cause and also theie were one or two people on the Supplementary
Assistance.list. ·

that might be preferred by families on
relief be authorized to be presented for
Christmas and the limit to be spent be
$10,00."

Mayor Murray brought forward the letter fuom lVlr. S, J, Kelner
regarding the reassignment of the Contractor's Bond, Councillor
Child,stated that this is the same condition that existed at the
south end of Town. Reeve Davis stated that there was no guarantee
of what work was left to be done. Further discussion followed and·
the following motion was proposed,

Mayor Murray stated that before Council adjourn this evem.~ng
that he would like to say a :few words and remarked that he had
been with this Council :for :four years as Mayor and like
Ganeral MacArthur said "I'll be back". Mayor Murray stated
that he enjoyed working with each member o:f Council and wished
all o:f them to be well aware o:f the :fact that anything he had
learned through the ~ears is at their disposal and any assistance
I can give at any time. he hoped every member o:f Council will hR
:feel :free to 12:1!1:ll!R call upon him, ~.
Deputy Reeve Patrick stated he had enjoyed working with Council
and that the knowledge gained in municipal life is something you
cannot buy, Deputy Reeve Patrick stated that he is still young
and will be back.
