A letter from Mr. s. c. King, Building Inspector presenting his
resignation as building inspector for the ToWn of Aurora and .
stating the resignation was due to health reasons was read •
Mayor Murray stated that this letter was received as a shock to
himself and Mr. King over the years had proved himself very
efficient, capable and the town certainly apprebiates his work
in the past. All members of Council voiced their high regard
for Mr. King's work and were all indeed sorry to see him resign
at this time.

A letter from the Ontario Water Reeources Commission re the
Town of Aurora sewage treatment in waste for.Choice Cut Up Chicken Lt<i. •
was read. ·

A letter from Mr. Blair with regards to the poor condition of the
roads on Wenderly Dr. and Dunnigg Ave. in Aurora was read •

A letter from the Arena Restaura.rit concerning the improvement and
the establishem.ent of a. rock garden to the north of their commerical
business was read. ·

8th. REGULAR ~. 6 April 18th. 1960.
Aletter from the Post Office Department in Ottawa advising that
a representative would visit the Town of Aurora to ~dvise exactly
the requirements of the Post Office Department with respect to the
forth coming mail delivery was read.
DAVIS: "That this letter be received and filed."
CORBETT:

A letter from the Association of Ontario Mayors and Reeves reminding
members of Council that resolutions must be submitted By April 30th. 1·
for consideration at the annual conference to be held at Cornwall
on June 22, 23 and 24th was read.
DAVIS: "That this let.ter be received and filed."
CORBETT:
Carried.
A letter from Aurora HoZtse Show requesting permission to use ;·.the
Town Park for the purpose of holding their show on June 11th. was
read.
DAVIS: "That this permission 'be granted." ,.
CHILD:

A letter from the department.of Planning and.Developlilent conearning
a conference on Civi! Defence problems being held at the Arnp~ior
Civil Defence College May 17, 18, 19, 1960 was read. ·
Davidson: "THAT Mayor Murray attend this conference."

A letter from Mr. J. Topp Regency Acres Ratepayers Association
concerning the speed limits and regulatory signs in Regency Acres
Sub-division and also referring to a 25 mile per hour limit ·
wi;:.th that sub-division,· was read.
This l~tter was referred to the Police .Committee to-gether with the
By~aw Committee for study and recomendation as soon as possible.
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES
Reeve Davis reported that there would be a Police Committee meeting
on Thursday night April 21st.· '
Councillor Davidson reported that sirice Mr. Sam Sobara had been in
Aurora there were 5i loads of gravel placed on ::·. Tecumseth Dr.
and trusts tha~ it is now in good condition. Co.uncillor Davidson
{}mtftia stated· that he had·bean contacted by the Town. Engineer
stated th·uewi~esSome barricades and: flashers •. Councillor Davidson
flashers were based on a da~ly rental of 40¢
and since it appeared to be an excellent arrangement 1 dozen had been
ordered.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Mayor Murray brought to Councils attention that 'next monday night vl
April 25th. Council would meet with the High School Board regarding ·
the problem o:f :financing the new 'high''' school. .
Councillor Corbett inquired i:f anything had been done regarding the
sa:rety cross walks and 'Reeve Davis stated he would put .this· on the
agenda :for Thursday nights meeting. ··-·
Mayor Murray stated that-our county levy this year amoumting to some
$62,000 ·and :felt that the Reeve should bring in a report' on whel.'e
this money actually goes.
Councillor Davidson asked i:f Mr. Shankman of Consolidated Building
Corporation had received an invitation to meet with Council and :felt
that the problem o:f the cost of :fixing Murray Drive should be
discussed with Mr. Shankman or inquired i:f we should discuss this
matter and settle it amongst ourselves.
Councillor Davidson :further stated that if we are intending to
pave certain streets in the town then :felt it was about time the
Town Superindent obtain prices before contractors became busy :for
the summer.. . · ·
Mayor Murray asked how :far in the investigatio~:f paving all owned
streets in the Town had progressed.
Councillor Davidson stated that this matter:::'.: would be le:ft :for the
moment. Councillor Davidson inquired abouilthe Centre·st~ crossing
and Mayor Murray stated that the Streets Committee had permission
to progress wi•th this work. · -
Reeve Davis stated that the i load season was still on and it would
be very expensive now.
Mayor Murray stated that Council should look ahead and see what we
might do about railway crossings. Mayor Murray :felt that possibly
we should be thinking of under or over passes on Wellington St.
or other.streets.
Deputy Reeve Patrick.stated that,as :far as the Centre Street crossing
went we are not closing it but ·~ preparing to fix it up in a small
way and.believed that the Town Engineer had received word.tha.t they
were putting a siding in and therefore the job should not cost too
much ..
Deputy Reeve Patrick asked Council i:f our Town men are grading and
gravelling roads in Aurora Heights then what is the Towns liability
in this .instance. The Town Engineer Mr. Murray stated it was his
understoo?ing that once the Town touched these roads they become our
r:esponsibil"ty. · ·
Councillor ?hildstated .that it. was his hope we are as pro·m·p. \ .. in . ·
the correctJ.on o:f•roads in the oid part o:f Town as Mr. Sobarsplad
been in Aurora Heights and further that he had visited Aurora Heights
this day and :felt ~he roads are in better shape than the old part
o:f Town. Councillor Child then asked how far the Engineer had
'progressed with regard to estimating the cost o:f paving roads in
the Town.

The Town Engineer replied he had contacted the Department of
Highways Engineer for guidance, have asked for prices and further
lllhat tests will take place shOJ:'tlY for the type of soil.

Councillor Child then brought to Councilis attention that approxi-
mately lo miles of ToWn. roads require paving and that approximately
$100,Dl00 ·.i had been spent by the Town over the last 7 years for
maintenance costs. Councillor Child further stated that. no one will
object to paying for good roads ~d that the ~own must nave good
roads to become an up to date progressive Municipality and fu:llther .

each year. Councillor Child then read from a report the cost of .
oiling roads for a period of 7 years back ~d Deputy Reeve Patrdck '
disputed these figures as being correct.
Councillor Davidson inquired if Aurora Heigh-ts Limited had been
billed for the work done by the Town men and MaYDill' Murray asked
if the Town Superintendent had sent out the me.n•s. time to Town Clerk
re this job. Councillor Davidson stated that this would be taken
care of the following morning.
Councillor Bell statedhe would like to go on.record that ifhe streets
Committee be incouraged to go ahead with the preposal of paving.

Child in this matter.
NEW BUSINESS
Councillor Hammond that he had reported to the York County Health
unit regarding the unsanitary health condition on Foreht Cre~. in
Aurora Heights Sub~division and had ascertained that the property
had reverted to the first mortgagee and.they advised -they will not
act • Councillor Hammond stated they have a poor condition to ·.look
after and inquired if the York County Health Unit is in a position
to .1.look into this. Deputy Reeve Patrick adv:i,sed that Councillor
Hammond get in touch with Dr. King the medical officer of health
and Councillor Hammond stated that,he had and they advised that the
firstmortgagee would do nothing,to elivate this condition•
Deputy Reeve Patrick stated he would follow this matter up.
Councillor .Davidson brought to 6ouncils attention.ha had received
a call .. from Mr. Moddle regarding a tree on Spruce & Catherine Sts.
and that Mr. Moddle would like to have. this tree take-n down.
Mayor Murry advised_that the Streets Committee should check.and lollk
at this tree and ascertain if it is proper to take down or not.,
Deputy Reeve Patrick stated that in connection with Park•s·that
we allow the Public School to use the park and the paper and debris
now found in these parks sho.uld be cleaned up by the school.

Town Engineer Mr. Murray brought to Councils attention .that the
City Engineer's Association were holding courses on May 30th. and
June loth. at the University of Weste.I'n On"t;ari-oH in London;,: and
recommended th,at a.,representa,tiye of the Police Department attend
the Police Traffic Cour·':se on May 30th. and further that he would like
to attend the Traffic Control Course on JUne-lOth •

Mr. Murray also stated he would like to attend the Ontario
Water Works Convention on April 24th. to 27th.

Councillor Corbett suggested that a small brass plate
containing F. Dunham's name be placed on his picture.
