. MINUTES oF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL HELD IN THE COUNCIL
CHAMBER ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 5th, 1958 AT 7.00 p.M.

"That weaccept the recommendation of the Arena
Board and replace the roof over the ice aur:f'ace
of' the Arena and the Town of' Aurora advance
$4,000~00 towards same and .the Seal of the
Corporation be attached thereto~"
General discussion followed this motion and it was contended that
it was of the utmost importance to fix the Arena roof' and especially
since a large investment in the Arena was entailed and no one
wished to see the Arena aboliShed especially 'ue to the forthcoming
increase in population.
The motion was then Carried.

Mayor Murray brought to Council 1 s attention that all Council were
requested to attend a Home & School meeting Monday evening at 8.00
P.M.
Counci~lor.Child brought to Council 1 s attention that a discrepancy
is quite apparent in By-law 1246 Wherein said by-law calls for
800 sq. :f't. on the ground floor of a two storey single family
dwelling and if it woUld be in.order to amend the by-law to reauce
this nequirement to 600 sq. :f't. In addition Councillor Child
stated that a clause should be added to cover the minimum sq. :f't.
required on the ground :f'loor of two storey semi-detached two family
dwellings.

nThat by-law No~ 1246 be amended to read as follows:
1. That the minimum requirement of' a two storey
single family dwelling be changed :f'rom 800 sq~ :f't.
tq 600 sq. :f't. on the ground floor.
2. That the minimum requirement :f'or a two storey
semi-detached twoofamily dwelling be 550 sq. :f't.
on the ground floor."

Councillor Patrick brought to Council's attention that the Streets
Department required a heavier truck with a snow plow for the coming
winter and it was decided that Councillor Patnick might check wi.th
the Department of Highways regaeding any sale .of their trucks that
would serve our purpose~
' ' Mayor Murray mentioned the necessity of requiring no overnight
parking in order to facilitate the removal of snew in the winter.
This matter was turned over to the.Chairman.ot the Police Committee
for further study. • ,

l4ayor Murray then advised Council regarding the path we made from
Jaaper Drive in Aurora Heights .Subdivision to eonn~ct to the.La.qeway
on the Boyd Property and the children coming this route to attend
school would necessitate the hiring of a school crossing gaard at
Wellington Street West ,and George Street.

"That the Mayor be miven the authqrity to employ
a school crossing guard at this section.••

The Clerk was given instructions to prepare a by-la~'IT p~rsu~t to Section
312 of the Municipal Act to set.up a res~rve.f¥nd to designate certain
subdivider's contributions of money for specific purposes.

"That petition for the statutory grant on road
expenditures amounting to $18,027.47 for the
period January 1 to August 31, 1958 be hereby
approved~"
