DELEGATIONS
Mr. R. Egerton appeared before Council concerning the condition
of the road side of Wellinton Street West and in particular the
water condition in the ditches. Mr. Egerton mentioned that it
was two years since they first approached Council on this subject
and in addition that gas mains on the south side of the road had
not been properly graded since their insulation.
Reeve Davis brought to Council's attention that two catch basins
and culverts were installed on Wellington Street to let off drain-
age, Reeve Davis stated that we will see ~mose responsibility it
is and proceed further in this matter.
Mn Ivan Dadson requested Council to look in the matter of scraping
the side of road on Wellington Street West and requested a load
of gravel in the places Where gas mains were installed and also
gravel or cinders along the sidewalk across from McCarthy Feed.
Mr. Terry mentioned that it was his understanding that a sub-division
is planned on the Boyd Farm and requested Council that the flat area
on Wellington Street West be set aside as a green belt.
Mayor Murray outlined on a plan of sub-division that a conservation
or a green belt area had been set aside and that the houses will be
built up on top of the hill. Mr. Terry further remarked that in
his opinion Council had looked after the residents interests very
well in this matter.

Mr. :O;. McCluskey appeared before Council regarding a letter of protest
concerning the site of the proposed swimming pool. Mr. McCluskey
presented the letter to Council as a petition agains~.the location
of the swimming pool and remarked that this petition was based on
a fact that land at this particular site was too valuable and would
make a good municipal centre in the future. Also this site would
devaluate their property and it was felt that the. nearness of the
fire department would cause a hazard for children and that no
parking lf'scili ties 1·rere available in this area. Mayor Murray then
read the letter of protest to Council.
~~yor Murray advised that 90 days must elapse before the ruling
authorizing the site for proposed swimming pool might be r.evised
unless a Council member who voted in the affirmative reopens the
issue.
Deputy Reeve Nisbet stated that one advantage would appear to be
the fact that during the war such a water tank as the swimming pool
would be handy dl~ing any emergency.
Mayor Murray explained Re: protocal, in this instance, in that
Council may bring in a motion to hold over.
ADAIR:
DAVIDSON:

General discussion then took place in which 'Councillor Davidson
remarked that originally he had turned down the site but since a
more suitable place on Town pro]?erty could not be located, tl;te
site ~ras subsequently approved.
Councillor Stoddart also said that he 1-ras opposed to the swimming
pool site the first time but since a better site would not be found
he had to go along with this site.
Councillor Child remarked that Mr. McCluskey should come up w~th
a better site as an alternative. It does not seem to matter what
locality is chosen a petition will still be issued against any site.
Deputy Reeve Nisbet mentioned there doesn't seem to be another
central site comparable to this chosen site and any postponement
now in agreeing on a site will mean the loss of a whole year.
Reeve Davis remarked that he agrees with Mr. McCluskey in that the
property is valuable and also that it may devaluate his property
and possibly he may feel the same if it were to built next to
his own home. However, Reeve Davis could not see any danger for
children due to fencing and thought that maybe the pool is perhaps
premature due to site.
Councillor Corbett stated he voted because it 1-1-as the only high,
well drained property o•med by. the Town. Councillor Corbett
further felt that poss~bly Garden City might be interested in
having a swimming pool at their south end sub-division.
Deputy Reeve Nisbet mentioned that since fewer houses touche\i on
the present proposed site then any other area he therefore could
not see how devaluation was image of factor.
Councillor Adair mentioned he was not originally in favour, how-
ever no alternative site caused him to vote yes for the site blf
the fire hall.
Councillor Patrick felt that the pool should be in a park area so
people could congregate around the pool and watch their children
and in addition that we need a municipal centre in the future
would certainly make this property too valuable for a swimming
pool. In this connection Councillor Patrick felt that we dould
take our time on deciding on a proper site.
A vote on this subject 1;ras then taken and the motion to hold this
matter over was turned down.
Mr. J. Marrese appeared bef.ore Council and presented a letter to
Mayor Murray regarding chimneys. Councillor Child felt that con-
cerning chimneys a line should be drawn at the end of Stage 1.

Tree planting at the Disposal Plant as follows:
The Committee respectfully submit the follo'tving;
Deputy Reeve Nisbet and myself inspected the proposed planting
site at the Disposal Plant on l!Tednesday, April 16th, 1958. We
find there are 100 fence posts in the area to be planted.· .. These
posts are 9 ft. apart and-we decided to have a tree planted at
each post, 4ft. inside •. The. purchase of the trees can be made

highland cedar trees, delivered to Disposal Plant for $1.25 each.
Later this same ev.ening Deputy Reeve Nisbet and myself attended
an Aurora Park 1 s Board meeting. The members at this meeting also
had ideas about planting trees on the above mentioned site, with
the result that they passed a motion to pay for 100 cedar trees,
6 ft. tall, from the same source as those for Council at $1.25 each.
The 100 trees from Park 1 s Board to be set half v<ay between the first
