The Committee .reapectfully submit the following:
Subject: Side-walks.
, oThat on Thursday, August let, the Co!Dmi ttee met for the purpose
of looking over some sidewalk work. All members present, also
Mr. Goulding, and Councillor Nisbet -we recommend that
approximately 60 .ft •. of cement walk be replaced on Spruce Street,
and that the corner of Wellington and Victoria Street's at the
Baptist Church be lowered and the curb set back, i~volving
about 90 ft. of sidewalk. · ·· · · ·
Estimate cost of this work -approximately $4oo.oo.

Deputy ~eeve Jones also brought up the subj~ct of the Blitte.walk
on Mosley Street,·atYonge St.s., beside Bank of Nova Scotia
btiilding,·and the thought of getting in touch with Mr.Kelner
re this matter. ·
In addition, Deputy Reeve Jones opened a discussion
in the need forsidewalk, along.the newGeorge S~reet school
onfthe east side of school •. Council generally agreed this
' sh:o\lld be done in the Fall, rather than: in the spring, and
.. ' that a place be left open whereby construction trucks could
enter. Deputy Reeve Jones then requested Council as a whole
·· •·· j;o inspect the area in question and. then help to ·decide where
and when to place the sidewalk by tihis new school. The matter
was then left in abeyance, for further discussion.
·: '' • , Mr. Stanley Murray then brought to the attention
of Reeve Davis 'and cotincil the subject of Machell Street •.

Councillor Nisbet reported on a meeting of members of Collis
Leather Company and Proctor and Redferrt'arid of the Mayor and
himself, for the purpose of finding out the cause of th.e
undesirable septic conditions at, and its effects upon, the
Disposal Plant. Councillor Nisbet then introduced Mr.Sid Dutton,
P. 'Eng~ of Proctor and Redfern, the Town 1 s Engineers. Mr. Dutton
•. then enlarged upon ·an interim report, Copies of which :he
distributed to the council as awhdle. Mr. s. Dutton also
displayed several copies of a plan at this Council Meeting~ This
p!an'·shows the sewers and ma:riliQles in thiS ToWn, also some key
manholes ih which sewage septicity teats were m~de, and those
. .manholes in which sel-rage proved to be septic •. Mr. Dutton
, advised that additional results of analyE!eB were still pending
from Ont.Water Resourees'Commission. Mr. Dutton went on
further to recommend the positive sampling drill method.
Mr. Percy Barwick, Sewage Disposal Plant foreman, then asked
permission from'Council to take samples at Collis Leather Co~

Councillor Nisbet recommended that Mr. Barwick advise Collis
Leather when tests were being taken and co-operate l'Ti th them
as much as possible.
The :f'act that. the Sewage Disposal ,Plant is st:l,ll in the hands 'of
our engines~ was brought un before council.
Councillor Nisbet advised that Mr •. Orr of Qnt. Water Resources··
Commission suggested taking tests of every plant in town.

Councillor Bailey then asked that Mr. Lee speak to Council
regarding the proposed animal etc. by-law. Mr. Lee advised
that it was fraught with difficulties because of pet ppnies
privately owned etc. Completion of this proposed by-law tor
presentation to_Council just as soon as possible, was urged
at this meeting.

His Worship, the Mayor, brought up the question of the complaint
ot Mrs. Madill, Irwin Ave, Aurora. The Mayor described-the
situation to Council. A general discussion followed and it was
generally felt that something must be dpne in this matter.
Mayor Murr~y also brought to the attention of council, a radio
programme slated tor J.JO p.m. Wednesday, August 7th 1957
on C.J.R.H. Richmond Hill, Ontario. On this programme each
mayor is allowed to s~eak tor J minutes, and this occasion
it would be our Mayor s:··turn •
Reeve Clarence Davis suggested that the account ot'Proctor
& Redfern, which had arrived too late to be included intthe
General Accounts passed earlier, be held tor the committee
in question to study.
Pricew·re a combination door and for 2 screens for the Municipal
Building (upstairs) as presented, on behalf of' the Clerk-
Treasurer, ''ere turned over to Councillor Nisbet,of' the Property
Committee.
His Worship, Mr. Murray, requested members of' council to meet on
Monday evening, Aug.l2th 1957, in the Town Hall, for the purpose
of' attending Newmarket 1 s Council meeting that evening, to
congratulate that town on its forthcoming lOOth birthday.
