Reeve Davis reported on the req1,1est by the t•rell driller for payment of an account for drilling. Councillor Davidson asked that further action be taken to make an effort to obtain higher. old age pensions. This matter was left for consideration at a later meeting. Councillor !J; ::!bet asked that ci:rnsi<".eration be given to the application of a request of the sewage disposal plant operator for an increased salary. This matter >•ras left for consideration later, along ori th other salaries and "\\'ages. Deputy Reeve Jones reported on proposals for a larger bucket for the tractor. This matter -.ras discussed at length and left for the Streets Committee to consider. ~ ~ L:~ C':L ~~'4 -3-- Reeve Davis reported on the need for Stop Signs at the corner of Mosley and Victoria Streets. Instructions were given for the erection of these signs •. · Mayor Murray asked for consideration of school area signs for the portion of Yonge Street in the area of the Separate School. This matter was left for consideration in committee. A proposed County Mutual Aid By-laor for fire protection purposes was considered and left for the attention of the Fire and Water Committee. It was reportedthat the Striking Committee suggested that the responsibility for the maintenance and operation of sewers be put under the jurisdiction of the Health and Sanits.tion CoiTllili ttee. 13 NISBET: .TONES: "That the necessary amendment be made to the Procedure By-lm·r to provide that the administration of se1-rers be placed under the Health and Sanitation Committeeu. Carried. A proposed By-law for the ~andling of domestic and industrial wastes was considered~ This was left in the hands of the Property Committee for consideration. An application for a taxi license made in 1956 was further considered. · NISBET: DAVIS: 11 That the matter be handed over to the Police Committee for investigation and report.11 Carried. A request for the placing of an advertisement in the High School Year Book was conside~ed. CHILD: DAVIDSON: 11 That we place a full page ad. in the book at a cost of $40.oon. Carried. A letter from Frank Hillar regarding his proposed subdivision ;.ras considered and left with the Planning Committee for further consideration. A bill for plumbing expenses at a house on Church Street was considered and referred to the Fire and Water Committee. The Mayor asked that all Committee Reports be in the hands of the Clerk 1 s Office by 1 p.m. on the day of a Council meeting, and that all By-laws be in the hands of the Clerk by noon on the Friday prior to the meeting days. "'· 14 -4-- ¥~yor Murray also asked that resolutions resulting in a tie vote be sent back for reconsideration before the vote was completed. No agreement was reached on this request. The Mayor also asked that no by-laws, other than formal by-laws, ·receive three readings in one night. Consideration was given to a revision of the lay-out of the Voter 1 s List. JONES: NISBET: 11 That the Finance Committee be authorized to make a study with a view to revising the voters list 11 • Carried. Councillor Davidson spoke on the enforcement of by-laws for dog control, sidewalk cleaning, enforcement of entry into sewers, weed-cutting and the removal of eavestrough drains from sewers. Councillor Nisbet asked for consideration of the by-law providing for early closing on Wednesday. No action was taken on this.matter. The control of undesirable buildings was considered. DAVIS: STODDART: 11 That the clause· contained in Section 6 of By-law 1246 which was deleted by the Ontario Municipal Board be placed in the building by-law11 • Carried. The matter of charges for sewer cleaning was considered and referred to the Health and Sanitation Committee. Smoke abatement was considered and no action was taken. A proposed revision of the garbage collection contract was discussed, and left until the contractor attended on the Council. DAVIS: 11 That the meeting now adjourn". BAILEY: Carried.
