A letter .from. the Aurora District. High School notifying Couneil
that Brian Edmond.had qualified for the Town of Aurora Scholarship
for 1956 was read~

A letter from Cecil Foreht regarding the land OWned in his name
on Yonge Street s. which is now being transferred to the name

Council expects the proposed local improvement
agreement for the servicing of the industrial
subdivision on Wellington St.E. to be returned to
the Council completed by the 27th August to make
the necessary arrangements for the l<rork to be done".

Mr, W, Gerrard attended before the Council to ask if anythinghad
been done regarding the drainage problem on Irwin Avenue. This
matter was discussed briefly,

Deputy Reeve Jones presented the following written motion.

to se.e if we can get better sidewalk. Estimate:
cost $750.00 and that the Seal of the Corporation
be attached hereto, Also that there be a catch
basin ord,ered for the storm sewer",

Finance Committee
Councillor Stoddart reported that notice had been received from
the Bank of Montreal that the bank rate was now· being increased
to 5%.
Streets Committee Continued.
A letter from Proctor, Redtern & Laughlin making recommendations
for certain paving work in the town was read,

Property Committee
Councilior Nisbet presented prices for the installat~on of
aluminium storm and screen windows. Instructions were given
for the Clerk to arrange for the tw·o low bidders to submit
samples for the Council"s consideration.

Councillor Nisbet reported that he had given instructions
for the installation in the ne~or fire hall of an exhaust fan·
now owned by the town.
Councillor Corbett reported that a portion of the town park
fende had peen broken. This matter was left forinvestigation
by the Property Co~mittee.
Health and Sanitation Committee
Counci,llor Corbett reported on the garbage dumping control
by-law now being put into effect in Whitchurch Township. :
U~FINISHED BUSINESS.
Councillor Davidson aske~ for a report.on the well-drilling
programme, and was informed that nothing. had yet been heard
of a new ],oca"tion, for a test drilling.
-Councillor Nisbet reported on the soil testing now being :
carrie~ out at the Disposal Plant.
Councillor Bailey asked for information on the removal of
ea.vestrough drains from the aani tary ..sewer.

Reeve Davia and Deputy Reeve Jones were asked to investigate
shoring devices.

Instructions 1qere given for a by-law appointing Mr.Jamea .Goulding
as trench inspector. -
Councillor Corbet asked w-hether anything had yet been done
regarding the enforcement of connection~ to the sanitary sewer
where available. 'The Clerk reported that notices would be
sent out as soon as possible.
The proposed 'agreement "t-Fi th Aurora Heights Ltd. for the sharing
of the cost .of the storm sewer throughout the subdivisi.on 1.;ras
considered and left for further discilssion in committee'.

Councillor Bailey then dealt with the proposed Q.ui t-claim Deed ·
to the Lions Club and reported on the.er'fect of the deed.

corn roast.and dance on Friday, August 24th, and inv~ted the

Reeve Davis also reported oh· the.·.·need for a new battery charger
as a result of the transfer of part of' the· fire alarm equipment
from the Waterworks to the· Fire Hall. ·

Street formeply owned. by A urora Milling Company had ascertained
that the building on the property encroached ori.the street by

Deputy Reeve Jones .asked if' anything had been done to 01.1-re the.
mildew on the fire hose and clothing in the Fire Hall. It
was reported that chemical treatment had been given as
recommend~d by Mr. iVims of Collis Leather Company.

Councillor Child r~ported on the storage of fireman's coats and
hats at the new· Fire Hall. This matter was discussed briefly.
Councillor Nisbet reported that the town park had been sprayed· ·
for .weeds.
Councillor Davidson asked about,the filling of' holes in the town
park and it was reported that seven loads of' top soil had been
applied to the park.

Council Davidson also asked whether arrangements had been made
for the storage of the town truck in the Quonset Hut. ,
Councillor Corbett asked whether anything had been done about
the Murby property on Temperance Street.

It was reported that the Hearing before the Fuel Boardfor
the granting of a franchise for the distribution of gas in
the Town of Aurora N'ould be held on Friday, August 24th.
