ask for some action to deal with the draingge problem on the North
side of Irwin Avenue.

Mayor Henderson then took the chair.
Mr. Oakah Jones of Consumers Gas Companyof Toronto attendE!d before
the Council to. request Council to consider the granting ol a franchise
to that Company for the distribution of gas throughout the to-.m.
This matter was discussed at _length and lett for further consideration.
Mr. Francis Cook attended before the Council to present problems
connected >vi th the storm drainage at Cooks Supp:bies building. This
matter was left over for consideration at a later dat·e, · ·
Mr. Don Redfern o~ Messrs. Proctor, Redfern & Laughlin attended
·before the Council in connection with the tenders for the ·
constvuction of sewers and a sew·age pumphouse east of the raihrays
tracks. Eleven tenders for •this wo11k were then opened. · ·

low bidders and bring in a report, for the neiitt

their approval of the project and be authorized to call
for tenders for same and th~/seal of the Corporation be

NEW BUSINESS:
The Mayor reported on a request of the Police Department for the
hiring of a Special Constable during the summer months to replace
members of the Police Department who are on leave.

for the holiday season at a sala-ry· of $50.00. per
week and the seal of the Corporation be attached
thereto."

Councillor Corbett reported on complaints rega~ding the property
of the Imperial Oil Company Ltd am Yonge Street and Royal Road.

Reeve Davis then reported on o.isturbances created by a prop.erty on
Spruce Street.
Mayor Henderson reported on the requests of the Fire Department for

entrance also change hydrant in front of Post Office

Councillor Davidson reported on the co.ndi tion of the lot on which
the Old Town Hall had been demolfushed. The Mayor reported that a
hoarding was to be. erected e.round this lot and instructions were
given for the town men to clean up the sidewalk.
Gouncillor Corbett reported on the holes in the ground in the Tow·n
Park and instru.ctions w·ere given for the to•m men to do the
necessary 1vork to fill in these holes. .__--' ... ·

Councillor Bqiley suggested that motorists be permitted to pay a
lump sum annually for parking on the streets in lieu of using park-
ing meters. This matter was left,over for.consideration at a later
date.
The purchase of a Fire Hose rack for the Fire Department vraR than
considered, Councillor Davis presented the following report of the
Fire and Water Cqmmiytee, ·
THE COMMITTEE respectfully submit the following:
That the price of $57.00. of .Aurora1 Tank and Welding l'i'orks
be accepted for a.Fire Hose Rack.

Reeve Davis asked lvhat progress had been made 'i'rith the Fire By-law
and was ipformed that this matter would be dealt w·ith.
The fire retainer fees paid by the Townships of King and Whitchurch
were then discussed.

11 That the Townships of Kipg and v/hitchurch be notified
that their retainer fees 'i'rill be increased to #500,00,
per' annum, on account of increased costs of the Fire
Department and that these charges be retroactive to
January 1st, 1956.11 /

The letter from the Hydro Commission regarding the fire alarm boxes
was further considered and was referred to the Chairman of the Fire
and i'Tater Committee for discussion vrith the Fire Chief.
A request for a street light on Temperence Street south of Kennedy
Street West was considered and was referred to the Streets Committee
It 1•ras also recommended that the street light in front of the Fire
Hall be connected to the automatic street/+ight system,
