REPORTS OF COMMITTEES Fire and Water Commit~e Reeve Davis presented particulars of the report of Messrs. Proctor, Redfern & Laughlin on the installation of water mains on Centre Sto ·· and east of·tne railway tracks. Mr. Stan Murray of Messrs. Proctor, Redfern & Laughlin attended before the Council to discuss this matter. Mr, Sam. Sorbara and Mr. J. Marresse attended before the Council to discuss certain matters pertaining to th~ Aurora Heights Sub- divisions. These matters were then left for completion later. J. Property Commit~ Councillor Nisbet presented particulars of the purchase of a new tracitor mower. NISBET: DAVIDSON: 11 That a new Gravely Tractor and flat rotary mo'l'rer b~ purchased from Gravely Canadian Inc., at a total cost of $475.00, and that the present tractor, rotary mower, sickle bar, and snow blo1~er be :burned in for an allowance of approximately $320,00, against the purchase at the new eguipment, making a net• cost for the new equipment of $155.00, and that the Seal of the Corporation be attached hereto.11 · Carried, ~olice Committee · Councillor Stoddart presented the following written report of the Police Committee:- 'The Police Committee met on June 19th to discuss several matters relating to the Police Department. Also present was Reeve Davis. The Committee now recommends as follows: / ''"' 1,r That Constable Krochter be made a first class constable and : .. that his salary be increased to $3; 600 per annum retroactive ' to 1st. January 1956. 2. ' That the report of Sgt. Langman and the Clerk dated May 23rd. re through streets be approved with the exception that Victoria street be made a through street at Mosley, and Larmont Street be made a through street at Mosley, and that the necessary by..:law be drawn up. J, The Committee has considered the proposed amendment to the Traffic Control by-law and recommends certarn alterations to the no-parking provisions. The matter of summer leave for the members of the Department has been discussed and will be f:l!!.rther considered later.· . . . The Committee has considered the installation of a radio.·system for the Police Department, and further information is now being obtained. The control of parking in the Parking Lots was discus?ed, and· it' is now recommended that a by-lalv be prepared to provide for a maximum of 2 hour parking on the parking lots leased from the United Church and Mr. A.N. FISHER. and that the necessary by..;. law be drawn up for this. · STODDART: 11 That the report be amended to provide - NISBETL STODDART: DAVIS: That Tyler and George be a four way stop Victoria, Chu:cch and Metcalfe be fom: way stop Victoria St. be a fqur.way stop street at Mosley Street.11 ' Carried. 11 That the report'of the Police Committee as amended be approved and that the seal of the Corporation be attached II Carried. UNFINISHED BUSINESS The matter of the licensing of hawkers and peddlars and transient tra~ers was considered. Counoillo~ Nisbet, Reeve Davis and Councillor Child were instructed to investigate this matter and bring in a report. 9, Reeve Davis asked a question regarding the services to the Simpson. Building. This matter was left over for discussion with the·owner of the building and with the oiVner of the old,Town Hall sitE). Reeve Davis presented a request from the waterworks department for the purchase of a pipe and cable finder. · DAVIS: CHILD: 11 That the Town of Auror~ purchase a pipe and cable finder from the Francis Hankin and Co. The Mayor reported on National Awards won by the Aurora Junior Chamber of Commerce. NISBET: STODDART: 11 That a letter of thanks be sent to the Aurora Junior Chamber of Commerce for their efforts.11 Carried. The request from the Canadian Legion for partial tax exemption on the Legion Hall was considered, CHILD: NISBET: "That this matter be referred to the Department of Municipal Affairs for information 11 Carried. Councillor Davidson asked for a report on the progress of the well- drilling and Reeve Davis reported on this matter. NEW BUSINE.§§. Reeve Davis presented a request from the Fire Chief for payment of his expenses to the Dominion Fire Chief's Convention at Vancouver. No action was taken on this matter as the Fire Chief's salary as established in 1955 included the cost of conventions. Additional work at the Fire Hall was discussed and Councillor Nisbet was instructed to obtain prices. Certain requirements of the Police Department were discussed • STODDART: DAVIS: "That the Police Office be authorize~ to purchase stationery at the Banner Office to the value of $31.50. and the seal of the Corporation be attachedn, Carried, Councillor Davis reported on the suggestion to increase retainer fees paid by King and Whitchurch Townships for fire protection, and agreed to call a meeting for this purpose as soon as possible. The water rates were discussed and the matter was left for further consideration at a later-date. The meeting then adjourned. ! i v 1'21
