The By-law waw.r then read a· second time in Committee of the Whole and the reading was approved in Council. STODDART: JONES: NISBET: CHILD: BAILEY: CORBETT: 11 That the by-law now before the Council be read a third time this day and that Rule 22 of By-law 862 be suspended for that purpose". · · Carried. "That the By-law be taken as read 11 • Carried. 11 That leave be given to introduce a By-law to authorize the sale of part of lot 16 plan 9 comprising a frontage of 33 ft.on Wellington Street West to C. Lyle Sparks and that· the same be. now read a first time". Carried. The By-law was then read a first time. BAILEY: CORBETT: 11 That the By-law now before the Council be r~ad a second time and that the Council dissolve itself into a Committee of the Whole for that purpose". ArE)quest for the removal of a fire hydrant on George Street Was considered. 11 That the owner of the property requesting the removal of the ·hydrant be. charged the cost of ·the labour and any materials involved in: the · removal of the hydrant 11 • Carried. 11 That the necessary By-law be prepared to provide for the. payment an owner for the removal of hydrants, manholes or any other town services ·at the request of the owner 11 • Carried. Consideration was given to the purchase of screens for the windows in the municipal building. The <~mployment of Clarence Browning and the maintenance of the t'o1lets in the town park were considered and lett for a report at the next meeting. A request for information on the use of land on Kennedy Stree~ Wept was Considered. NISBET:q BAILEY: "That this request be referred to the Planning Board for their consideration and recommendat- ion". 'Carried. ~r. Charles Copland, Hydro Superintendent, attended before the Council to discuss the question of the installation of street lights in new sub-divisions. This matter was then discussed • ' NISBET~ DAVIS: •, "That the requirement in the sub-division agree- ments providing that the sub-diYi,de,r, pays, ,t,he, cost of the street light installation be not sustained. 11 '':" Defeated., Consideration was given to the requirements on the opening of the Aurora Heights Industrial Sub-division, and this matter was left for further information. The insurance of the new Fire Hall and contents was then , , considered. STODDART: NISBET: "That 80% co-insurance on a total value of $20,000.00 be placed on the new Fire Hall", Carried. The appointment of a trench inspector was considered, It was suggested that the town foreman be appCiin'ted::t to this position and the Deputy Reeve was requested to bring in a report after , discussing the matter with the foreman. The services to the Simpson building on Yonge Street iEtouth were considered. CHILD: STODDART: "That the town be absolved of all expense in providing new water and sewer connections to this building other than the usual e~pense in providing sewer and water leads from the mains to the street line at the usual cost to the owner of $90.00." Carried. 97 98 Page 4 t ...: -Special Meeting May 28th, 1956. ~,~ It was reported that a By-la:w wasbt!mg prepared to provide tl:ilat no connections will be made from the ianitary sewer to new·. buildings until such times as the cement floor in the basement of the building is laid and until the roof is constructed on the building.· It wa:s reported that one application had been received for the position of town ·engineer. NISBET: STODDART: "That the application be checked and an inter- view be arranged with the applicant." Carried. c • REPORTS OF COMMITTEES. % Finance Committee. Councillor Stoddart repor~ that the owners of the lands on Wellington Street East.on which she sewage pump~house and mains would be installed had not yet made arrangements'for a meeting to discuss the acquisition of the necessary lands and ease- ments. Property Committt:~.!!.• Councillor Nisbet reported on the work required to oe done to the fence at the tennis courts. DAVIS: CORBETT: "That the town of A urora repair the fence at the tennis court at MeMahon,park at an estimated cost of $100.00 and the seal of the Corporation be attached hereto and the club be notified any furure expenditure be at their own expense". · Carried. · OTHER BUSINESS: The Solicitor then attended before the Council an<i reportedthat the purchase of the land from Mrs. Hillary would be.completed within a few days. The Ca:se andCousins sub-division agreements were then discussed with the Solicitor. CORBETT: NISBET: 11 That August 6th pe proclaimed a civic holiday in the town of Aurora". "That a letter of thanks be sent to the Jaycees for the work of painting the Library and that letters of thanks also be sent to the people who trained the children who took part in the Variety Night Show and to St. Andrew's College for their co-operation in recreation matters and particularly for their participation in the Variety Night. 11 Carried. Councillor Davidson then reported on pipes projecting above the ground level on Mosley Street and other places. STODDART: NISBET: 11 That the town Solicitors' annual salary be increased from $900.00 to 1,000.00. as of January let, 1956and that a by-law be prepared accordingly." Carried. Councillor Corbett reported on the condition af a property on Younge Street South.Reeve Davis agreed to have this matter looked after. It was reported that Mr. Lorne Cousins had applied for a water connection to a house to be erected outside the town limits. DAVIS: JONES: DAVIS: 11 That the application be approved fo~ the supply ';of water to this house at the usual out of town rate provided all piping etc. is put in by the owner" • Carried.
