outlining the conditions on which they would be prepared

posed subdivision of his property on Temperance Street was
read.

Mr. Doug. Harrison and Mr. T. Spence attended before the
Council to present a petition from restaurant operators. in.
the town to ask for an increase in the Hawkers and Peddlars
licence fee covering out of town people who deal infood and
cigarettes etc;•. This mat.ter was diScussed briefly and held
over for further consideration~
Fire chief Harry Jones attended before the Council with :regard
to a Fire Marshall 1 s report fo-llowing an inspection of two
buildin!l!S on the west side of the business block, Yonge Street.
The Fire Marshall 1 s report was read.

and turned over to the Fire and W ater
Committee 'for further investigation and
report; arid that letters be sent to the two
owners inv-olved asking for their co-operation

Fire•Chief Jones reported 'that the new siren had been installed
and was operating properly, and also reported on other matters
conce~ning the new fire hall.

to attend the Horse Show .on June 9th.
Mr. Don Gla-ss attended before the Council on behalf df the
Board of Trade to present a petition supporting the letter from
tne Boar.d of Trade regarcling parking lots.

Post Office Department by the member of Parliament to attempt
to get the use of the land rear of the Post Office' for ·
parking.

Planning Committee
Councillor Child reported that the Planning Board had completed
preparation of a revision of the proposed zoning by-law and map
and that arrangements had been tentatively made for a meeting of
the Council, .the Planning Board and representatives of the .D~part-
ment of Planning and Development on MaY )lat. · · · ··
UNFINISHED BUSINESS.
Councillor Bailey asked for information on the amendments to the
Land U.ee by-law.

Councillor Child asked a question on the special garbage coll~t
ion for garden and other refuse. This matt.er was referred to ...
the Health and Sanitation Chairman to be taken up· with the·'garbage

Councillor Davidson raised the question of the removal of eaves-
troughs from sanitary s~wers and also the connection of certai1;1
houses to the sanitary sewer.

advertisement that all ~avestrough drains m~st
be di.sconnected from the sewer and that those
houses not now connected to the sanitary sewer

·The clerk asked for instructions on the acquisition o:f. land . .
and easements for the installation of a sewer and a 'sewe·rage ·· ·
pump-house on land. east of the railroad tracks. The .clerk and
the Financ.e Chairman were instructed to discuss this matter
with the owners.

The by-law was then bead a first time.
This by-law was then held over until the next
meeting of the Council.
The Lion.s Hall was then considered and held over for the
next mee.ting.
The proposed amendments to the Hawkers and Peddlars by-law
was al•o left for the next meeting.

Deputy Reeve Jones repoi:"ted on acomplaint on a tree stump
at the corner. of Wells and Harrison Streets.
Councillor N~sbet suggested that the merchants in the town
be thanked for their co-operation in controlling the sale
of fireworks.
NISBET:

"That the reuail section of the Board of
Trade be·. sent a letter thanking the
merchants for the~r co-operation in
controlling the sale of fireworks to
children."
Carried,
Councillor D!!tvidson reported on the destruction of tree
stumps.
