The Committee re<apectfull\\' submit the followingrecommendations: ' That a requisition and order system be set up covering all Town purchases of materials and supplies. . The requisition should be in duplicate and signed and the original turned in to the Clez-k1s Office. The ·copy would be retained for record purposes by the person who requested the supplies. The Clerk would us.e the. requisition to or;d.er the supplies if satisfied. that the requisition is in order. If a routine order the chairman of the Committee involved could sign the copy later, if not routine the order should be delayed until the chairman has given his approval. The intention is to have a sigpea order go out tor every purchase and a signed copy of th_e order be .at_tached to each account when presented for p~yment by Council. Approval in princi~le by Council .is desj,red and the Committee will work out the det&ils. · STODDART: NISBET: "That report of Finance Committee be approved"~ Carried. ' ' . Councillor Stoddart reported on the.need for insurance on the Quonset Hut and contents, and also on the tractor. Insurance on the new Fire Hall to be constructed was also considered. The placing o:t' an alarm on the new Fire Hall was also considered. Instructions were given for an alarm system to be investigated. P~operty Committee. Four tenders for the purchase of the lot on Wellington St.W. were considered~ ~ ~ • r.l c:;.,. rr:l I I , I ' i ' L: 26 A DAVIDSON: NISBET: WHEREAS this Municipality is undertaking ,a programme of test drilling to find a source of water to supply the needs of the To~~ brought on by expansion and development of the Town AND WHEREAS many other Municipalities are also undertaking similar programmes AND WHEREAS the anticipated development of that part of Ontario surrounding Toronto will involve the production of e. very large supply of water in addition to that already being produced THEREFORE BE· IT RESOLVED: That this Council petition the Provincial Government to take steps to bring water into this area from Lake Simcoe, Lake Ontario, or any other similar source, to be supplied to Municipalities in the same way as hydro-electric power is supplied to local Hydro Commissions, and 'that the Corporation of the County of York, and all other Municipalities within the County be asked to support this petition." UNFINISHED•.BUSINESS Councillor Bailey asked if anything had been. done with the S ewage Disposal Plant tenders and was informed that the Engineer had not;yet completed his in:vestigation~ The application'of Mr~ George Black regarding the division of his. lot on Wellingtol:l Street West was further consider~d. ( . Councillor Davi~son,asked if anything had yet been done with the seat-ends t9 be,made by the Waterworks employees. Reeve Davis agreed to look into this matter. Councillor Davidson then brought up the matter of the search for more water. REPORTS OF COMMITTEES ( Contd. ) Police Committee Mayor Henderson presented the :following report o:f the Police Committee. ' ' The Committee respectfully submit the :following: ' q " ' The Committee has discussed the Police Chief 1 s .report :for .. 1956 and has conside.red several other matters pertaining to the Police Department. The Committee now recommends the following: 1. That an additional man be hired for the Police Department so that better service can be provided. ·2. That the Salaryo:f the Police Chief.be raised to $,3800 per annum and that the othermembers o:f the Force be on the same scale as the Town of Newmarket Police Dept.; as recently set by arbitration~ That is sergeant . . $.3,750~60 2nd Class Canst. $.3,.300.00 ,3. That P.O. Krochter be allowed to attend a Police Training Course, and that after completion of the course, that his rank be reviewed. 4. Councillor Stoddart reported that the Assistant to the Clerk would start on Wednesday, February 22nd~ Councillor Nisbet reported on the ~uonset Hut now nearing completion, Councillor Davidson reported on a complaint of ice on Hillview Road. He was instructed to have the complaint referred to the Clerk 1 s Office. Councillor Nisbet reported that Mr. P, Barwick was now attending the Sewage Plant Operators Course being held in Toronto~ Mayor Henderson reported that the United Church had requested permission to build steps on the North side of Tyler Street. It was agreed to permit the erection of these steps under the supervision of the Town Foreman. Reports were given that signs were down on Tyler Street and Cousins Drive.
