Fire and Water Committee
Reeve Davis reported on the proposed meeting with Mr. Wesley
Huffman,to investigate possible drilling sites.· It was agreed
to hold a meeting with Mr. Huffman on Saturday, January 21st,
at 10 a.m •..

Councillor Nisbet pre~ented the following report:
The Committee appointed to investigate the purchase of
furniture and fittings for the Municipal Building has
met on two occasions and has discussed'the requirements.
The Committee has also visited the Whitchurch Township
Offices to inspect the furniture there. Prices are
now being obtained on furniture and drapes etc.
The Committee has considered the erection of a sign on
the front of the building and recommend$ that a sign
be placed on the top of the face of the building •
. This sign to be erected by Andy's Signs at an approximate
cost of $9.5oOO. The Committee recollllllends a pain·ted sign,
and since it is untleratood that gold paint will not
retain 'its colour we recommend a silver painted sign
on a black background. .The sign to be worded "Municipal
Building''•

Councillor Nisbet presented' the following report of' the
Property Committee.
The Committee has considered the sale of the lot on
Wellington Stl' West,· and also the Old Tol\rn Hall.
Only one tender was received for the Wellington st.lot11 and the Committee recommends that the offer of Mr.George
Keroft for the purchase of the lot for_th4tsum of_$h,ooo
be accepted provided that the erection of a suitable
building_withina period of' time satisfactoryto the
Council can be arranged. The Committee recommends that
an agreement be drawn up between Mr .. Keroft·and the Town
for this purpose.
The persons interested in the purchase of the Old: Town Hall
were interviewed-' and it is expected .that a further
offer_for the purchase of this property will be made 11 and this revised offer can then be considered at that
time. ·

The· proposal to enforce a speed· limit on· Irw·in Avenue and \,_
other proposed amendments to the Traffic Control By ... law· were
considered. The solicitor recommended a complete revision
of the Traffic Control By-lal~. This mattep was considered
and instructions were given for the necessary by .. laws to be

and the Glo'be and Mail".

The erection of a new Fire Hall was then further discussed~
The Mayor reported that the Council. would entertain the
members of County Council during the present session of
the County.

Police Committee in the place of Councillor

Carried.
The Mayor then asked for a meeting of the Police Committee
as soon as possible• and suggested also a meeting of the
Finance Committee as soon as possible.
Deputy Reeve Jones reported that the Streets Committee had
given some consideration to the purchase of a tractor.

"That the Streets Committee be instructed to
obtain information and prices on the purchase
of a.tractor, and that the Committee bring in a
report as soon as possible 11 •
