Minutes of a special meeting of the Council
held in the Council Chamber on Monday June 27th 1955
at 8,00 p.m.
PRESENT:
Mayor Dr. E.J. Henderson in the chair.
Reeve D.J. Murray
Dep.Reeve v. Jones.
Councillors Corbett, Child, Bailey, Davidson, Nisbet,Stoddart,
The proposed lease of the Old Public School to Remington
Rand Ltd., was discussed.
DELEGATIONS.
Mrs. B. Stavert and Mrs. Joseph Holman attended before the
Council to present a leather hand bound visitors book made
by Mrs. Holmrm. Mrs. Holman was thanked by the Mayor on behalf
of the Council.
Mr. Gillham attended before the Council to ask for information
on his sewer connection on Centre Street.
MURRAY: "That the town instal a 6 11 sewer pipe from the malll hole
JONES: in f~ont of Holmans easterly to the property line of
Mr. Gillham 1 s property approx 125ft, to be placed on
local improvement. And the seal of the Corporation be
attached hereto". ·
Carried.
Mr. R.H. Corner, and Mr. A.K. Bennett attended before the Council
on behalf of the Parks Board to ask for further consideration of
the proposal to re-shingle the roof of the bowling club house.
NISBET: 11 That the Town repair the roof on the club house in
STODDART: McMahon Park at an estimated cost of $150.00 and the
seal of the Corporation be attached hereton.
Carried.
OTHER BUSINESS
The application of Norman Dian for a building permit was further
considered.
CHILD: "That N. Dian be granted a permit to build on the lot
1mRRAY: immediately east of the Doug Clarke property provided
the 65 1 frontage on Cousins Drive be maintained and that
he deed over to the Tolfil that portion between the steel
stake at the east side of the property to the east stake
on the North side of the property west of the c·reek 11 •

IIThat leave be given to introduce a By-law to authorize
entering into an agreement with Aurora Heights and that
the 'same be now· read a first time".

The by-law was then read a first time.

That leave be given to introduce a By-Law to appoint
an Engineer of the To~m of Aurora and that the same
be now read a first time.
Carried.

11 That the By-Law now before the Council be read a
second time and that the Council dissolve itself
into a committee of the whole for that purpose 11 •
Carried.
The by-law was then read a second time in Committee of the
whole and ~ reading was then approved in Council.

No. 862 be suspended for that purpose".

for the repairing and renovation of the Old Public
School and that the same be not-r read a first time 11
Carried.

NEW BUSINESS
The proPBed annexation of King Township was considered.
BAILEY: 11 That the westerly boundary of the annexation area
CHILD: be the west limit of the Riddell farm, then west
along the south limit of the Bodfish farm to the
end of the road allowance at the West end of
Kennedy Street West, then North parallel to the
2nd concession to Wellington St. W."
· Carried.
Deputy Reeve Jones asked if anything·was to be done with the
culvert on Yonge St. s. opposite the Arena, and was informed
that this was awaiting development of the lot adjacent to the
bridge.
Reeve Murray reported on tJJa:e condition Cif the disposal plant.
Councillor ~US:l!il§MXX Stoddart reported on the possibilities of
debenture redemption.
Deputy Reeve Jones reported on the condition of the creek
at certain times.
Reeve Murray asked whether payment of the County levy had
yet been made.
The meeting then adjourned.
