COOK; KING: That a letter. of appreciation be eent to the Board
for the work they have done. CaPried.
Mr. Joseph Har.rison appeared before Council t:o ask for clarification
of the questl.on of parking trucks 1•rhile unloading. This matter 'lvas
lef& in the hands of the Police Committee. l~r. Harrison alfJO com-
plained of the conditions of the gutters and driveways at certain
spots on Yonge Street and of certain trees needing thinning. This
matter was left in the hands of the Streets Committee.
Mr, Chas, Egan appeared b!lfore Ccunc:ll on behalf of the Aurora
Scout Gr91.l.p Committee to ask for the use of a room at the Old Public
School for• scout purposes. This vlaG ler't for discussion under New
Business.

lots in Town.

Councillor King reported on the results of his visit to the
Department of Planning Ill Development to present the proposed
amendment to the Official Plan. The Reeve ;;as asl~ed to try
to arrange for a joint meeting of Counci.l and the Planning
Board to be held on Thursday, November 12th.
FINANCE COMNITTEE
Councillor King r"eported on the completion of the 1953
assessments roll. The Mayor introduced Mr. Baty, the
Assessment supervisor of Business Planning Associates,. who
briefly addressed the Council. Councillor King also raised
the question of the insurance on the Old Public SchooL
KING: DEPUTY REEVE NURRAY: That the sum of ~$269. 70 be turned
over to the Aurora Publlc School Board in payment of insurance
premium from Harch lOth, 1953 to March 22nd, 1955. Carried,
WATER COHHITTEE
Councillor Murray reported that Mr. S, Patrick l-Ias intending
to attend the Fire Chiefs 1 Course at the University of Toronto,
and ask for a decision on his expenses. It v1as suggestecl that
Mr, Patrick submit an expense account after attending the course.
Councillor Murray also asked if a decision could be made on the
installation of the sewer on. Centre Street. The Clerk was in-
structed to have the Solicitor draw up a local improvement by-
lav; before w0rk is commenced. He also reported on the 'lvater
main i11hich had been laid on part of tl'IO lots on the Senutovitoh
sub-division,
The Mayor reported on the removal of th~ Hydro poles on Yonge
Street, He informed Council that the Corporations share of
this 1o1ork -.rould be approximately $2,900. He also suggested the
passing of a by-la-.r to restrict the parking of cars outside the
Hydro Office to Hydro customers. This matter v1as left for the
Police Committee to investigate.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
The question of the purchase of the Machell Street Property
vms furthe1• considered, It was suggested that the Streets &
F'ire & \•later Committee discuss this matter with the Solicitor.
The letter from the Health Unl.t regarding the proposed sub-
(livision on Catherine Avenue 1•as considered further.
KING: DAVIS: That a copy of this letter be sent to the
Planning Board and to the proposed sub-divider. Carried.
The Petition relating to the tanks at the Armouries was further
considered:
KING: DAVIS: That the.representatives of the Department of
National Defence be asked. to attend the next meeting of Council,
to discuss this matter. Carried,
Councillor Md'ffat raised the question of the naming of the ne-.11y
formed industrial body.

AMENDMENT
DAVIDSON: DAVIS: That the group be known as the Committee
for Industrial Expansion.
The amendment was defeated. The motion was then put to the
vote and was carried, Councillor Davidson again.raised the
question of the control of industries wishing to locate in
the Town, and the question w·as discussed briefly.
BY-LAWS
MoFFAT: D.J.MURRAY: That leave be given to introduce a By-la~<l
to a~thorize the lease of a strip of land on Wellington Street.
east to George Ross Ardill and that the same be now read a first
time, Carried.
KING: DAVIS: That the By-la"lv. now before the Council be read a
second time and that the Council dissolve itself into a committee
of the w"hole for that purpose. Carried,

Council with amendments made to the lease attached to the By-
