SIXTH MEETING MARCH 20th 1950
The regular semi-monthly meeting of Council was held in the Counci 0 Chambers on Monday March 20th~l9SO at 8.00 p.m. Mayor ~ell in the hair
Members present; Reeve Cook; eputy Reeve Corner; Councillors, Corbett;
Davies; Glai!is; Jones; Murray;-"Pringle.
DAVIES, COOK; That Mr. Ross Linton be appointed representative of the
Town of Aurora to the Board of the York County Hospital tor the year 1950.
Carried.
Upon the request of the Council, Mr. Robert Marshall appeared in regard
to an interview tor the position ot Town Assessor.
A like request was made to Mr. F. Doyle tor an interview tor the position
of Assessor~Mr. Doyle attended this meeting.
A letter from Mr. Lorne Cousins was read regarding an application to
have sewers, watermains and if necessary, storm sewers constructed on
Royal Road. Considerable discussion took place as to how this work was
to be undertaken. _
GLASS, CORBETT; That the letter trom Mr. Cousins be turned over to the
Streets Committee with instructions to interview Mr. Cousins in the
matter of road grading and final gravelling~ Carried~
BY-LAWS
DAVIES, CORNER; That leave be given to introduce a By-law to
Increase salary of the Police Chief, F. Dunham and that the same be now
read a first time. Carried~
PRINGLE, MURRAY; That the By-law now before the Council be read a second
time and that the Council dissolve itself into a committee of the whole
tor that purpose. Carried.
JONES, GLASS; That the By-law now before the Council be read a third time
this day and that Rule 22 ot By-Law # 862 be suspended tor that purpose.
Carried.
COOK, DAVIES; That the third reading be taken as read. Carried.
DAVIES, CORNER; That leave be given to i~troduce a By-law to increase the
salary ot the Assistant Clerk, Wm. Large, and that the same be now read
a first time. Carried.
GLASS, JONES; That the By-law now before the Council be read a second time
and that the Council dissolve itself into a committee ot the whole tor
that purpose. Carried.
CORBETT, MURRAY; That the By-law now before the Council be read a third
time this day and that Rule 22 ot By-law # 862 be suspended for that
purpose. Carried.
PRINGLE, GLASS; That the third reading be taken as read. Carried.
DAVIES, CORNER; That leave be given to introduce a By-law to increase
the salary of Police Constable Wm. J. Langman and that the same be now
read a first time. Carried.
GLASS, JONES; That bhe By-law now before the Council be read a second
time and that the Council dissolve itself into a committee ot the whole
tor that purpose. Carried. -
JONES, GLASS; That the By-law now before the Council be read a third
time this day and that Rule 22 of By-law I 862 be suspended tor that
purpose. Carried. _
SORNER, JONES; That the third reading be taken as read. Carried.
DAVIES, CORNER; That leave be given to introduce a By-law to increase the
salary ot the Town Clerk, Harold N.Clark and that the same be now read
a first time. Carried.
MURRAY, CORBETT; That the By-law now before the Council be read a second
time and that the Council dissolve itself into a committee ot the whole
for that purpose. Car.ried. ·

The By-law was returned to Council with_the blank space filled in with
the Name of Robert Marshall as Assessor.

this day and that Rule 22 of By-law # 862 be suspended for that purpose,

MURRAY, CORBETT; That the third reading be taken as read. Carried.
DAVIES, CORNER; That leave be given to introduce a By-law to increase
the salary of the Town Solicitor. Lorne C. Lee and that the same be now
read a first time. Carried.

MURRAY, COOK; That the By-law now before the Council be read a third time
this day and that Rule 22 of By-law # 862 be suspended for that purpoae.

DAVIES; CORNER; That leave be given to introduce a By-law to Appoint
an Assistant Director of the Recreation Commission and that the same be
now read a first time. Carried.
JONES, GLASS; That the By-law now before the Council be read a second
time and that the Council dissolve itself into a committee of the whole
for that purpose• Carried~
The By-law returned to Oouncil with the spaces filled in with the name
of William Mundell.
CORBETT,GLASS; That the By-law now before the Council be read a third
tkime this day and that Rule 22 of By-law # 862 be suspended tor that

DAVIES, CORNER; That le!ve be given to introduce a By-law to appoint a
Director of the Aurora ecreation Commission and that the same be now

DAVIES, CORNER; Moved an ammendment before the third reading was taken ~at The arena Board, Fin~e committee o:f' Oouncil,the Auditor, the
ecreation Commission hold a meeting to decide on a method of book-keeping
for the business o:f' the Arena Board.
A vote of the ammendment was taken and declared lost.
The third reading motion was passed.

GLASS, CORBETT; That the Finance Committee arrange a meeting c:f' the *zww•
representatives of the Arena Board, Recreation Commission, Town Auditor
and the Clerk to decide o~ the detai~s for payamnt o:f' salaries of the
Director and Asst. Director, and any other business of this nature. Carried.
DAVIES, CORNER; That leave be given to introduce a By-law to REGILATE
THE USE OF LAND, LOCATION, CHARACTER AND SIZE OF RESIDENATL BUILDINGS
and that the same be now read a first time. Carried.
GLASS, JONES; That the By-law now before the Couqcil be read a second
time and that the Council dissolve itself into a committee~o:f' the whole
for that purpose. Carried.
GLASS, JONES; That the By-law now before the Council be read a third
time this day and that Rule 22 of By-law # 862 be suspended tor that
purpose. Carried.

DAVIES,CORNER; Resolved that this Council does hereby accept and approve
the application ot the Aurora Hydro Commission tor the issuance ot
debentures ln the amGunt ot $20,000 tor· the purpose ot financing the
frequency standardisation system and any other capital expenditure in
connection therewith.
And that the Solicitor be and he is hereby instructed to
prppare adebenture by-law tor the issuance ot the said debentures with the
terms tor repayment being 20 years at Ji% per annum, and to submit the
required application to the Ontario Municipal Board tor its approval.

COMMITTEE REPORT
A report of the Finance Committee regarding the mill rate tor the year
1950 was submitted. . ·
PRINGLE, COOK; That the Mar,20/50 report of the Finance Committee be
adopted and that the Seal of the Corporation be attached hereto. Carried.
