MINUTES - Council - 19491031TWENTY-THIRD MEETING OCT. 31st 1949 A special meeting of Council was held in the Council Chambers on Monday Oot. 31st 1949 at 8.00 p.m. Members present; Reeve Cook, Dep.Reeve Corner; Councillors Corbett; Davies; Glass; Jones; Murray; Pringle. Reeve Cook took the chair in the temporary absence of the Mayor, who attended. later~ Several items of correspondence was read. The date proposed for holding a Holland River Conservation meeting was Nov. 30th with an evening meeting instead of an afternoon meeting. The Mayor assumed the Chair. An application for Building Permit was received from the E.L.Ruddy Co. for permission to erect a sign on Yonge St. CORNER, DAVIES; That the Council does not wish to grant permission for the erection of a sign of this type, and that no permit be' granted. Carried. A report from the v. 0. N. for the months of July & August was received. A letter from The Sisterhood of St.John the Divine, known as St.Hohnls on the Hill, asking if the Council of the To~~ of Aurora would supply water in the event that a building program there was started. JONES, DAVIES; That we feel at the present time there is insufficient water available, b~t if conditions .ever became such that more water will have to be obtained then the matter would be considered. Carried. A recommendation from the Planning Board with reference to the use of the present Public School site was received and ordered filed for future use. The applications for position of Building Inspeodlor weres: read and discussed, the following motion passed. JONES, CORNER: That the Finance Committee be delegated to interview the four local ~~~applicants and submit their report to Council. CORNER, DAVIES; Whereas The Bell Telephone Co. has filed application with the Board of Transport Commissioners, Ottawa for increased rates and whereas telephones are now a necessity in almost every home and business and any increase in rates with the av~rage home o'~er would create a real hardship and in many oases would have to be disconnected. BB it resolved that the Council of the To~m of Aurorais strictly opposed to any increase in rates as proposed and this~resolution be forwarded to~the Board of Transport Commissioners, The ell Telephone Co. and the ept. of Municipal Affairs, as we feel it is of sufficient importance that they take some action. Carried. MURRAY, PRINGLE: That the Council instruct the Clerk of the Town of Auora to apply to the Municipal Board for tentative approval with respect to issue of necessary debentures for the erection of a new high school.
