An ~pplicationfor plUmbers license was received from ~. Joseph McGhee Jr. AR motion of CORBETT & DAVIES; That the application presented by Joseph McGhee recommended by J. GQulding be accepted and a permit be issued on the payment of the required fee, was passed. The usual monthly report of the v. o. N. Organization for the months of Jan. & Feb. wsre received, and placed on file. An assessme~t notice for Waterworks land lwned in the Township of King was received and filed for reference. Application from Joseph O'Brien for an additional taxi license was received. GLASS, JONBS; That the request of Joseph O'Brien for an additional taxi license be granted and that the subsequent fee be collected. Carried. The Resignat~on from Norman Bretz from the Aurora Recreation Commission was receivedt ~ The Legion to be notified to appoint someone and submit the appointee to Council for its approval. A letter from the Ontario Municipal Association was received asking that the Town of Aurora join the association, to partake in its many:advantages of information as to current happenings in the Municipal field. COOK, CORBETT; That the Town of Aurora join the_Association and forward the prescribed fee for the Town of Aurora. Carried. The remainder of the correspondence was read and ordered filed. for reference~ DELEGATIONS Mr. L. Sparks appeared before Council in respect to getting sewers commenced on South Yonge St. at once. REPORTS OF COMMITTEES COOK, PRINGLE; Having been fully informed by our representative on the Aurora High SchoolBoard of the present state of over crowded class rooms and the result of survey made with respect to prospective school attendance extending over the next eight years, we on behalf of the Council and the Municipality of the Town of Aurora, endorse the recommendation of the Aurora, High School Area Board~ , That, the present school building be sold, a new site procur,ed and a new building erected which would provide ample accomodation and of a type which would sene the High School educational needs of. this area. Carried. A verbal report of the Industrial committee regarding industries was given by Mayor Rose. PRBPERTY COMMITTEE. tabled a report pertaining to painting the disposal plant this year, using the labour of the Town men when their services could be spared, and hiring extra help when necessary. JONES, DAVIES; That the report of the Property Committee be accepted and that the work be done as soon as weather perm~ts, that the Seal of the Corporation be attached to this resolution. CORBETT, GLASS; That the brief pertaining to Sports & recreation read to Council be accepted and as much as possible of the program be done this year. Carried. UNFINISHED BUSINESS CORNER, DAVIES; That Mr. Robert Marshall be hereby authorized to complete the Plans of' the 1949 assessment during the month of' March. Carried. CORBETT, JONES; That the citizens of Aurora be advised that the House numbering . Plan is now completed. That the Plan dis filed at the Clerk's Office, as well as names of residents to correspond with these numbers. That a notice be inserted in the Aurora Banner for the next three weeks, informing citizens to check with the Clerk for their correct· number. Carried. CORNER, DAVIES; Whereas the Council of' the Town of Aurora is considering widening Yonge St. in the main business section :f'rom Mosley St. to Centre St. and whereas the Bell Telephone Poles will interfere with this project, we would request that the Bell Telephone Co. give this matter their earliest consid- eration to have the poles removed a.t an early date. We believe this would decidedly be a. general improvement and advantage to them as well as improving our main st. Carried. DAVIES, GLASS; That the Planning Board be requested to negotia.58 with Mr. Lorne Cousins for the acquiring of' further land, shown .. on the Basis Land Use plan for park purposes abutting on Edward St. Carried. BY-LAWS DAVIES, JONES; That leave be given to introduce a. By-Law to ammend By-law # 1000 (Recrea.tion.Commission) and that the same be now read a first time. Carried. MURRAY, JONES; That the By-law now before the Council be read a second time and that the Council dissolve itself into a. committee of the whole for that purpose. Carried. PRINGLE, GLASS; That the By-law now before the Council be read a third time this day and that Rule 22 of By-Law # 862 be suspended for that purpose. Carried. GLASS, JONES; That the third reading be taken as read. Carried. NEW BUSINESS CORBETT, GLASS; That the present arena. assume the new name of' "The Aurora Memorial Arena." as of' this date •. Carried. The request for an additional street light on Kennedy St. west be left in the hands of the Streets Committee for attention and recommendations.
