MINUTES - Council - 19480610NINTH MEETING ( SPECIAL) JUNE loth 1948 --· .-. ,;' --- AK s»ecial meeting of Council was held in the Council Chambers on Thursday June loth 1948 to complete the business that remained at the close of the regular monthly meeting for June; Members present. Reeve Cook 1n the Chair; Dep~ Reeve Corner; Councillors Davies; Jones; Corbett; Swindle; Pringle. A letter of appl~cation from the Public School Board was received, asking that Council apply to the Ontario Municipal Board for approval of the issuance of Debentures for the balance of monies to commence the proposed new public school~ Dr~ A.W .Boland, representing the Public School Board outlined to Council the proceedings· of his Board thus far, and submitted for perusal,the plans and sketch of the proposed structure• as a result of the discussion the following motion was passed~ . SWINDLE, JONES; That the Solicitor be authorized to prepare a By•law for the construction of a new Public School, for the consideration of a subsequent meeting of Council, and that a public meeting be called in the meantime for the consideration of the entire proposition and that the Reeve arrange for such meeting as early as same can reasonably be done. Carried. SWINDLE, PRINGLE; That Proctor,Redfern & Laughlin be paid fees for engineering on Local Improvement work, for sewers, covering from Dec~l5/47 to May l/48 in the amount of #637 .88 and the Seal of the Corporation be att.ached hereto. Carried~ JONES, CORBETT; That the 4th progress on installation of Water mains, submitted and approved'.by Proctor,Redfern & Laughlin in the amount of $496.83 be paid and the Seal of the Corporation be attached hereto·. Carrll" CORNER,DAVIES; That the 4th progress of Kamlee Construction Ltd. submitted and approved by Proctor,Redfern & La~hlin for laying of sewers under the L0 acl Improvement plan, amounting to ,2,895.41 be paid and the Seal of the Corporation be attached hereto~ A letter from the Japt. of Welfare re the application from Clinton & Jessie Felker for relief was read to Council·• followed by a report from the Dept. Inspector-~ . . SWINDLE,DAVIES; That the letter regarding relief for 0~ & Mrs c. Felker be handed to the Solicitor for his legal opinion.Carried. The matter of dealing with the vacancy of Milk Inspector was revised and applications reveiwed agairr~ and the following motion was passed. CORBETT, JONES; that the tender for milk inspector, submitted by Reg. Woods be accepte~.on a monthly basis 1n view of the health unit be established, that would take care of this situation & the Seal of the Corporation be attached hereto. Carriedi'i Councillor Corbett Gave the report of the POLICE COMMITTEE and on Motion of Councillors PRINGLE & DAVIES Council disolved itself into a committee of the whole for discussion of the report!; PRINGLE, SWINDLE; That the report of the Police Committee .be adopted in full and that the Seal of the Corporation be attached hereto~ Carried'i Councillor Swindle presented a report of the Social Service & Sanitation Committee SWINDLE, PRINGLE; That the report of the Social Service & Sanitation Committee be adopted and that the Seal of the Corporation be attached hereto·• Carried'~ Reeve Cook presented a Water committee report to on Motion of CORNER , JONES; that the water works committee adopted and the Seal of the Corporation be attached hereto~ Council, and report be Carried~ \ ~---' ., -----/· Ninth meeting June lOth 1948 page 2 Upon the hour of midnight being reached the motion by JONES,SWINDLE; that Council carry on until all business before the chair is dealt with. Carried. DAVIES, CORNER; That leave be given to introduce a By-law to Authorize construction of sewers on Gurnett St. from Connaught to Kennedy St·. and .that the same be now read a first time. Carried:~ JONES, CORBETT; That the By~law now befmre the Council be read a second · time and that the Council dissolve itself into a committee of the whole for that purpose. Carried·~ SWINDLE, PRINGLE; That the By-law now before the Council be read a third time this day and that Rule 22 of By-law # 862 be suspended for that purpose. Carried~ JONES, SWINDLE; That the third reading of the By-law be taken as read Carried• DAVIES,SWINDLE; That leave be given to introduce a By-law to Designate an Urban Develppllll!lent Area'~ and that the same be now read a first time.
