Th.e NINETEENTH(Final) meeting of the Council was held in the Council
Chambers· on Friday Evening, December 15th.a_t 8 o 1 clock, with Mayor
Linton in the Chair and the following Members present;-Reeve C.E.Sparks,
Dep-Reeve A.A.Qook, Councillors. R.V.Smith, T.F.Swindle, a,nd A.}l".Fisher.

]'ire Chief Hyo.Jones attended the meeting and presented the report for the
year l.944. Chief .Jones stated that the Brigade made a. total of 54 calls
as follows:;-Whtichurch 4, King 13, Bradford 1, 'l'own 26. The fire losses
were only $525 .oo in Aurora, previous losses being, l.940 -$5'642oOO,
1941 -$1050.00, 1942 -$J.l35.00, 1943 -$1900.00. During the year the
Dances made a profit of $800.00 which was distributed to various war
organizations.
SPARKS,. SVITNDLE. That the report of the Fire Chief be accepted and the Fire
Brigade be commedded for the efficient manner in which they conduct and
habdle a fire and in keeping the loss of damage sustained to so low an
amount of $525.00 with a toial. of Z6 calls. Carried.
REPORT OF STREETS GOMMITTEE• Your street Committee beg to report as fol.lows:;-
We have inspected the following trees: and recommend that they be removed
as soon as possible, namely;-lst. 2 Manitoba I!l[apJ.es in front of Don Webster'
property on Fleury st, reason dirty and unsightly. 2nd. A large E~ tree in
front of Geo.Horling's property on Fleury st., reason obstructing driveway,
heaving aidewal,( and interfering with electric linea and too cl.oae to
symmetrical. Elm. 3rd. 2 Manitoba Maples in front of Ex-Warden Corner's
Property on Wellington St .•

parts of Town.Several otiler atretchea of walk were contemp~ated but the
men were taken o:ff to work :for other Committees. We also used 8 Bblsoof
Bitumais in patching the pot holes on various streets• We wou~d recommend
to the incoming Council tha.t they procure 1/2. oar of :fine stone to use
instead of grave~ :for :filling in these pot holes. One Bbl of Bitumals will
us:e lilp two loads of gravel or broken stone. The Clarifier at the Dfaposal
Planll; has given considerable trouble the pa,st year, owing to too much
refuse in the affluent, causing considerable strain on the pulleys and
Clarifier in general. Our men have spent considerable time on repairs at
the-Arena, re""'facing the cuahion, re-flooring the Scpace in front dressing
rooms, painting and repairing doors etc., and we are grateful to various
Members of the Board of Trade & Lion's Club who rendered assistance in
putting the Arena in A:l shape for the coming season. We beg further to
report that the Town is inadequately supplied with equipment to cope with
an emergencya;s has existed for the last few days. We tried putting two teams
of horses on the grader which proved very unsatisfactory. After considerable
phoning about we rented a caterpillar tractor snow blade from the Aurora
Orchards whicrh has relieved the situation and enabled us to get OUJ;' streets
in a fairly passable condition. V{e would recommend to the 1945 Council that
they procure a suitable caterpillar tractor with a 10" blade for use. of
the •rown in cleaning the streets of snow in the Winter, and grading· in the
Summer. We :further report that we have investigated several complaints in
lightd!ng the streetSJ~ and would recommend that lights be installed an poles
in front of Elwood Davis and Mr.Greenhalgh propertiea respectively. We also
report that we expended $4400.00 in 1944 as compared with $5500.00 in

clause dealing with the street lights, and tnat tne clause be substituted,
by the following amendment;-1'hat we recommend to the 1945 Council that a

REPORT OF THE SOCIAL & SANITATION COMMITTEE. The Committee respectfully
submit the :following;-A large group of representative citizens, repres.en-
i:a.tives o:f the Schools, Doctors, Mayor and Members of Council, met in the
Council.Chamhers on Wednesday Daa.6th. to hear Miss Ferguson.an Official of
the ttViatorian Order o:f Nurses" outline in a very ea~iai-a&~&ey-interesting
and instructive manner the activities of the Order. After much open discuss-
ion on the thought of organizing on Victorian Order Service for Aurora., a
Committee was nominated to urange a. Public Meeting at which all Citizens
of Aurora would be united to take part with representatives of the Order

Brigade, made at the meeting of Council held on December 4, 1944, to hold a
dance in the Mechanics HaJLl on New Year's Eve, be granted, the dance to
commence at 12.05 :Monday Morning, January lstol945, and that the Chief of
Police be instructed to see that the Hall be not opened to Patr<ilns previous
to l2o05 Monday Morning Jan.lst.l945. Carried.
SMITH~COOK. That the Clerk be instructed to send a letter of congratulation
to MroWes:ley Brooks on his appointment &!5 as Clerk and Treasurer of the
Corporation of l'few:market. Carried.
PARKS,COOK. That fowl be purchased to the value of approximately $50.00 to
provide a Christmas gift for each of the C~~~oration's permanent employees,
fas a symbol of the Town's appreaiation for \1-t~rgood work and ao-operation
'·during the past year• . · Carried
.yor Linton thanked all the Town Employees for the way in which they had
co-operated during the past year, and His Worship stated that he would again
be a·candidate for the offiae of' Mayor in the f'orthaaming election.
Reeve Sparks, Dep-Reeve Cook, and all Members present addressed the Chair
and commented on the fine spirit of ao-operation which had prevailed among
Council Members, and aomplimented the Mayor on the way in which he had
disaharged his many duties.
Solicitor L.C.Lee al!Jo, amd expressed the hope that all Members of the present
Counail would again be returned to office.
