REPORT OF THE BY.o.IAWS & INDUSTRIA:L GO:MMITTEE· The Committee respectfully
aubmit the. fol.~owing;-On the Evening of. Nov.2.0thoa_ joint meeting of Comm-
ittees waa held in the Council.Chamber when the model By-law for prevention
of fires in public halls, and the snow removal By-law were discussed.
It was g·enera~ly agreed that the cost of complying with the pr?vi~ions of
this Ey-law would be prohibitive in the case of some of the ex~sturg halls.
However the Committee felt that everything within reason should be done to
protect the public who use such halls, and it was decided to ask Fire Chief
Harry Jones to subm:iit a report in writing setting forth his recommendation
for the improvement of the existing comditions and the Council would then
re<luest the co-operation of the OWners. If the re<luired co-operation is not
forthcoming, a By-law could then be considered to enforce necessary pre-
cautiOI1S• We recommend that this Council enact a By-law to regulate the
removal of snow from the sidewa,l.ka and our Solicitor, Mr .L .c .Lee has been
instructed to prepare such a B.y-l.aw, and it is 'our intention to submit . the
By-law to this meeting of Council for approval. OUr Committee has been making,
and will continue to make enquiries regarding the cost of machinery and the
operation of same, with the idea in mind of having the work done by the Town,
but as such machinery is not available at present, a By-law would seem to be
needed in the meantime. Respectfully submitted for your approval.. T.F.Swindle.
