uere the Town Park two evenings per week during the Summer months for organ-
ized baaebalLcompoered of Aurora Boyer :from l.O to 17 years o:f age.
A grant of' $25:.00 .was asked :for to assist in f'urthering this work of' char-
acter buil.ding and good s:portsmanship amongs:t the Youth of our Town.
Your Committee decided to arrange a Summer schedule :for the Town Park. for
the p~ies most interested. I therefore contracted Capt.Campbell., and
Sgt.Farley o:f the Ordnance Depoton this: matter and your Committee submit
herewith a schedule which we feel. will be o:f benefit to each sports associa-

Re Aurora Tfnra Park • .In order .that a hardball game and a softball game may
be played at the aame time in the l'rk it will be neceserary to move the large
catchers box s:creen :from ita present pos:ition to about 40 :teet East.
This woUld allow a s:oftball diamond to be arranged in the South West corner
to allo.w for a Ladies so:ftball game or J'unior game to progress at the same
time as the ~e being played on the main diamond.
The softball diamond only requires a base line o:f .fi5 square feet,. whereas the
hard ball diamond req_uires a baere line o:f 90 sq_u:are feet•
Our Committee would ask the approval of this Oouncil:in order that full use l

REPORT OF BY-LAWS; AND INDUSTRIAL COMMITTEE. The Committee reapeetful.ly submit

for information that would help us to .:pl!a&e pl.an the best methods of contrac-
ting industries that might be induced to l.ocate ·in Aurora.., r~sul. ts were diss-
appointing as no information of value waa·given. We ... l.ater made contaet with
the Induatri&1 Commissioner for the c.N.R. with whom we are co•operating,
w:ith.,the resul.t.that one enquiry V/as.received for the Ma.teh hctory, and
contact was established by the Committee between the awner and the J?rospect •
Recently an enquiry waa reoeiveQ. fr()m A Firm prepared. to spend $lOO.,ooo.oo
and to emp~oy about 7o workmen, negotiatiGna a:r:.-e prGaeeding.
A meeting with the Representative or the Indua.trial Co:mmiss.ioners Office is
to be hel.d in the near future to survey the factory and factory' sites in
Aurora,. a statement of water,, light, and assessment rates has been forwarded
to the Industrial Commisaion .•
Several.By-laws are under consideration, namely a By-law to prohibit certain
slot machinea and gambling devices, but as the Provincial Gcilvernment has
recently amended the Provinaial Statutes governing same we are holding this
By-law in abeyanae until the situation is alarifiedaa promised statutes lllaY
cover the situation.
A second By-law 4ie intended to establish beyond doubtthe control over and the
~esponsibility for CUlverts and the approachea to driveways on the street,
with a view to obta:tning greater efficiency in the care of our roadways.
A third By-law is intended to provide the basis for control o:f removal of
~now from the sidewalks. It is generally understood that there is already a
By-law for this purpoae but a search of' the records failed to locate such
a_ By•:taw. Since the By-laws are not urgently needed for some months we ree-
o=end that action on thembe deferred to our next meetingto allow time for
further consideration and :permit more urgent matters now before Council. to

SWINDLE, SPARKS. Whereas on several oooasions boys have aaeended the ladder
to. the top of the Water Tank, thereby. incurring considerable ha. zard that may
result in serious injury or death;-Therefore to protect tham against that
posaibility, that the lower portion of the ladder should be .removed. Carried.
SJ?A.RICS, ROSE. That leave be given to introduae a By-law to strike the rates
in the Town of Aurora for the year 1944, and that the same be read a first
time.
ROSE, SPARKS. That the By-law now b.e:fore the Council be read a seaond time and
that the. C.ounail <qasolve it<telf into a Committee of the Whole for tha.t purpose,
ROSE~ SPARKS. That the By-law now before the Council be read a third time this
day and that Rule 22 of By-law No.862 be suspended for that purpoae.
