The SECOliD ·meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chambers on
Monday, February 7th, at 8 P.l\I.with the Mayor in the Chair and all
~embers present. _

REPORT Ol'f I£:\KHfG THE WATER PUJVO? AUTOlMTIC. The :pres.ent system we have of
pUllJ.ping water for ordiJ:!.ary l),se_,i[l a.lB. H.P.motor driving one of the big*'
fire pUlnps with a flat belt. This motor rum! :practi!!lally 24 hours a day
along vdth the l'Tesbitt pump to supply the demand• At the present time it
is pumping practically all the water that is flowing for 5 days in the week,
on Saturdays and Sundays it is shut down for several hours and the water
flows tnto the river. It would be neither :practical or servicable to make
this :pump autolllatic when it runs practically all the time, and before long·
tllis pump wiib:l have to be replaced with a new one as it is badly worn. A
new pump of the centifrugal type could then be installed to work automat-

SPARKS,SWDIDLE. That the clause in the Fire & Water Committee report re the
purchase of a l:tydrant on Ross Street be laid over for further information
and be taken up in the course of two months time. Carried. ·
REPORT OF SPORTS AliD Pu:BLICITY COMlliiiTTEE. The Committee respectfully subllli t
the following;-1. 'l.'hat the advisibilty of supporting an "Ice Carnival"
and "Frolic" to be held in the Aurora Arena on a fut=e date be,discussed.
It was agreed and decided to ask the "Aurora. Board of Trade" to consider
the sponsoring of the "Ice Carnival" as a venture in the best interests of
the community at large, in aid of a worthy cause to be announced at an later
date. l\!lr.Beazer, Manager of the Arena, was :present and outlined many fea-
tures of an interesting programme which could be made :possible by the co-
operation of the boys and g~rls of the Public and High Schools in Aurora..
Mr.sam.:ra.rvis has indicated his willingness to assist Mr.Beazer in the
training of the boys and gorls in various routines and drills. The final programme would include two or more outste.nding figure skaters for special
numbers. The Ordnance Depot would be asked to assist, a bro.ss band and
special decorations would be arranged. 2. Letters of invitation were semt to.
the following Associations, inviting them to hold their Annual Fairs or

be connended on the excellent police report presented for the year 1943.
REPORT OF.THE.POLICE COMMITTEE. The Connittee respectfully submit the
following;-'L'hat aBy:-J,avr be brought be brought before the Council pro-
hibiting the keeping of Pin Ball gs.mes within the Tovm .Many complaints
have come to hand re boys spending their money on these machines, money
that had been given them for other purposes. That we purchase a. new suit
with two pairs of trousers for ou:r Constable, also a summer ca.p ·to cost
anproxima.tely i~75.00. 1'hs,t we purchase for the use of our Police Office
s.· small ra..dio (Police) so that a. more efficient check up can ·oe made on
stolen cars etc., cost approxims.tely $25.00 to $3o.oo. That pens be
prepared for a Dog Pound and the Tovm Employees act as Dog Catchers •
A general tour of tlJ,e Town could be made once a. week s,s soon as the Dog
I3y-law comes into forae. :Notice re this should appear in the Press when
.the usus.l Dog By-law notice is published.Other complaints could be phoned

SWI:NDLE,THOIViSON. That we propose to introduce a By-law to amend By-law

SWIN:OLE,s:tJfiTH. That the s.ign board and fi!).gn at the entrance to the Arena
be rernovedby the Sign Company, Owners ~reof, and that the lease on the
sign he not renewed this year. Carried.
Sl!i!ITH,ROSE. That the Horticultural Society of Aurora be invited to land-
scape or plan the landscaping of the Park area in the entrance to the
Aurora Arena. Carried.
Correspondence -read from the Collis Leather Co. regard:i.ng the treat-
ment of Tannery effluent~ 1'Ta.S treated as follows;-
ROSE~THOliiSOl'I. Whereas we have received from the Collis Leather Company
notification of their intention to install equipment to completely dispose
of offensive effluent, therefore be it resolved that we as a Council
support the Company on our part in cleaning up the Tannery Creek, to
permanently dospose of this nuisance, and that the seal of the Cor-
poration be attached. given to Carried.
