The seventh meeting of the Aurora Council w~s-held in the Council
Chambers on Monday Evening,April 20th.l942 at 8,00 P.M. Mayor F.R.
Underhill occupied the chair and the following members were in
attendance -Reeve Chas,A.Malloy,Deputy Reeve C,A.Sparks,Councillors
R,Linton,G.A.C.Gunton,Fred.Rowland,A,A,Cook,and A,N.Fisher
Gunton•Mammoy. That the request of the Women's Institute to hold a
Tag Day in aid of the Institute for the Blind,on May 2-42 be granted.
Carried.
Mr.A,A,Cook expressed his appreciation of the many expressions of
sympathy extended to him by the members of Council in his recent
bereavement.
Sparks-Fisher. That the street cleaner's wages be set at $13.00
per week and that S.Morris be engaged at once and continue until
Barney Robinson is well enough to resume his work,providing the
said S,Morris proves satisfactory to the Street's Foreman,and the
seal of the Corporation be attached hereto. Carried,
Malloy-Cook, That the Clerk be instructed to notify residents on
Connaught Ave.that in order to have the Street Oiled they present
a petition signed by 75% of the property owners.The petition be presented
to Council before the.first of May, Carried,
Report of Civilian Defense Committee• The General lectures for all
volunteers commence on Thursday,April 23-42 at Richmond Hill,
Following meetings will alternate between Richmond Hill and Aurora,
Aurora meetings are to held at the High School Auditorium.
A number of enquiries have been received by the Chairman
respecting the formation of the Reserve Army.The Reserve Army is in
charge of Capt.Norman Johnson of the Queens York Rangers for the Aurora
District.
The requirements for enlistment include,
Single men 17 to 18 years or over 35 years of age.
Married men over 31 years of age and up to 50 years.
Must have a medical examination but only a low catagory is required,
Uniforms are supplied.
Drill is held each Thursday evening from 8,P.M. to lO,P,M.
Summer Camp for two weeks,and week end manuvers from five to ten
times a year.
Enlistment is for a three year period. One Hundred and Fifty men
are needed and can be accommodated at Aurora,
A call for active service would only come if there wa~e an actual
invasion of Canada,
Moved by Dr,G.A.C,Gunton and Sec,by Chas,A,Malloy that the report of
the Civilian Defense Committee be received and accepted.
Rowland-Sparks. That the Truck Committee be authorized to negociate a
deal for a new truck and that the seal of the Corporation be attached
hereto, Carried.
The explaining of the Plebescite and getting out of the vote,
having been put in the hands or Municipal Bodies,the following Committee
was appointed by Council to set up a Local Organization for this purpose •
Chas.A.Malloy,F,R,Underhill and Dr,G.A.C.Gunton.
Linton-Rowland,That the Clerk and Treasurer be and he is hereby
authorized and directed to proceed with a Tax Sale this year and
that the list be gazetted and advertised,commencing the Ist.of
July 1942, A recorded vote was asked to be taken with the.result
that Mayor F,R.,Underhill,Reeve Chas.Malloy,Deputy Reeve C,A.Sparks
Councillors Linton,Gunton,Rowland,Fisher and Cook voted for the motion.
The Clerk declared the motion carried.
Meeting adjourned at 11,45 on motion
