The TWENTY THIRD meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chambers
on Monday Evening, Dec~ber 2nd. 1940, with the Mayor in. the Chair and
all Members present except Councillor Wilson.
The minutes of the twenty second meeting were read, and after a protest
by Councillor Stuart that the minutes of the meeting did not record an
amendment made by him that the Electric Light and Water allowance to
be made on Relief should be only in case of sickness and at the consent
of the Relief Committee, the minutes were confirmed.
A representative .of the Pine Timber Industry was heard in connection with
the proposed By-law on Building, he advised that an Engineer or Architect
should examine plans and specifications, and this could be handled in the
same way as in other towns, an Archi teet or Engineer could be retained at
the call of Council.
T.b.e Tenders for the Pulllic Liability Insurance were taken up, and the
represtati ve from each company outlined the policy of v~eir respective
Companies, CJ.Uestions were answered, and discuss on he1&1euntil later on in
the evening. Five tenders were submitted as follows;-

The Committee respectfully submit the following;-The Relief Roll shows eight
persona are on relief, all of whom are physically unfit to support themselves.
A new application for relief from :!.'Irs .Mary Nesbitt was approved.
A By-law was introduced, given it's three readings and passed, providing for
the regular nomination of-H&JRil'taof!!,&:tt candidates and for the election of the
members of the municipal council and of the required trustees of the school
board for the ensuing term of office. Nomination to be on :tvronday December 30th.
1940 at 7.30 in the afternoon, daylight saving time, and if Election requited
will be held on Monday January6th, 1941, betweem the hours of 9 o'clock in the
morning and 6 o'clock in the afternoon, daylight saving time.
A By-law was introduced, given it's three readings and passed, governing the

The question of rent of Mechanics Hall to the different Badminton Clubs was
placed in the hands of Reeve Malloy for investigation.

pool table licenses ($100.00) owing by Howard Lloyd, or to cancel license ·
and close his place if not pai.d by Saturday Dec.7th.l940. Carried
" SPARKS ,HENDERSON. That the order of the Fire Brigade for $30 .oo in payment of
ex-penses of two Firemen attending the Provinvial Firemens Training School,
be signed, and that the seal of the Corporation be attached hereto. Carried.
SPARKS,ij]J]JIDER.SON. That the Clerk be, and is hereby instructed to. issue his cheque
to the Aurora Fire Brigade for their yearly grant of $300 .oo," the services of a

Municipal Corporation of the Town of Aurora are authorized to e!:gl!!t negotiate
with, deposit with, or tranafer to the Canadian Bank of Commerce, Aurora, all
or any monies, cheques or. orders for pa.y:m:ent and for the said purpose to
endorse same on behalf of the said Municipe.li ty but for the credit of the said
account only. Either one is also authorised to arrange, settle and certify all
books and accounts between the said Municipality and the Bank, and to receive
all paid cheques and vouchers, and to sign the Bank's foBI!l of settlement of
