The fifteenth meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chambers
on Monday Ev;~2~gk,~A~~~~ 12th., at 8.15.
with Reeve li 1furl~y and Councillors Stuart,

I\'[ayor Walton occupied the Chair,
Gunton and Wilson present.
iVIB,1loy, Wilson. TJ:oved that the minutes be adopted after some discussion.
GUl'J'TON,WILSON. That the report of the :B:afety Committee as given at the
fou:CteerithCouncil ll!Ieeting be published in the minutes of the To¥m Council,
and the same be published in the next issue of the Banner.
The Col'llllli ttee respectfully submit the following,-
Rep.ort of Safety Ca.rnpaign carried on for four days commencing ]/fay
26, 1940. The Safety Campaign received excellent SUlJport from the Schools,
Ch'lilrches, Theatre, l'fewspapers, the Public, the On<tario Safety League, the
Industrial Accident Prevention Association, and Life Insurance Companies.
]<Jtr. La Trobe of the Ontario Safety League spoke to anJil showed the
School Pupils of both schools motion :pictures on safety. Dr.Devins spoke to
the Public School on several occasions during the Campaign, and the children
certainly took in a. great deal of very valuable information on safety.
1'he various Churches started the CaJilpaign off with sermons or
sermonettes on the subject and with Divine blessing in the effort of the
Cor!lllli ttee and those associated with them.
The Newspapers co-operated by printing a nwnber of interesting
articles on safety, while the Thea.tre B'il:&e~ showed Motion pictures on
safety,along with their usual progrrunme.
The· Ontario Safety League, the Industrial Aecident Prevention Assn.,
•
the Metropolitan Life Ins.Co., supplied thousands of pamphlets and literature
on safety which were distributed among the children, and posters were posted
in stores by the Boy Scouts. Movie films were supplied free o~ cost by the
Metropolitan Life Ins.Co., the Department of Highways, and run gratis.by the
Royal Theatre at their d~ily show during the Campaign.
Jlfue Schools ran a poster contest and a, safety slogan campais;n, for
which prlilzes were CJ.warded by the Council. The winners were~-
Public School. Charlie Seath,Connie Brodie,June Adams,Joan Hill
John Babcock,David Crysdale.
High School. Lillio:n Davis ,Luella Jl[cGiJ:'r ,.Jean Myers ,.Joyce Myers,
Bill Thompson,and Henry Westcott.
In each case the prizwwas a silver dollar.
The Safety Connni ttee made the following recommendations to Council

in order to safeguard the interests of the Public.
1. That a brake and car test be mao.e of cars in or :passing through Aurora.
2. That double :parking be not allowecl.
3. That roller skating be discouraged on Yonge Street and ~:!ellington
Street especially. .
4. ~hat waste rece]otacles be placed on the streets to take care of
rubbish, broken bottJ.es e·tc.
5. That :PoJ.i.oe supervision be given school children on Yonge Street,
when prossing Yonge st. on the way to and from school.
6. That the use of fire-.crackers be supervised more closely.
7. That bicycles be licensed.
8. That a playground be built in the park for the use of the children
and so keep them off the streets.
I sJJl sorry to say that the necessary co-operati.on vra.s not forthcoming to
make possible the consummation of these recommendations.

Your Comm.i ttee has decided to discontinue the :pe:re.ctice of :publishing
the nemes of Helief llecipiehts so that worthy cases will not be sub-
jugated to the hunilie,tion of such lJublicity, until further notice.
Your Chairman i.a i.n receipt of copies of' letters sent to several former
relief' reci]Jients in Aurora, by ,the Liquor Control Boe.rd of Ontario

consume s:piri ts, beer or wi.ne anywhere within the Province of Ontario,
until otherwise notified by this Board.

Section 100 of the Liquor Cont:t'Ol Act, not only :prohibits you to purchase,
have or consume, but prohibits you to be succ:rlied with intoxicating liquor
within the Province, and you, or anyone else who contravenes such Order

This action is taken because believed to be in the
