been made to the list of recipientsoThis has been accomplished by finding employ-
ment for the preswing cases that have come to our attention.Your chairman has been
in peraonal contact with 1\lfr.F.Ma;rsh of the Dom.Government Employment service and
the employment of labour was discussed.As a result of this interview special applie ..
ation forms have been issued to the relief recipients to be filled out.These will
be forwarded to the employment service in·Toronto en bloc as from the town clerk's
office.1'he Domin1on Employment service w111 then collllllunicate with the clerk by phone
or letter ,as and whe,work is available.We would like to emphasise that this service
is not limited to relief recipients but that any resident of AL.rora is welcome to
fill out an application form for industr1al war work obtainable from the Clerk's
office and leave it with the Clerk to be forwarded to ~aronto.The question of pass-

ible mncrease of unemployment due to the Foundry moving from Aurora in the near
fUture was discussed with 1\lfr.ll!.larsh· and it was learned that we should have no fear
of not obtaining e!~J!loyment for these men,as the Dominion Lrovernment agency has a
heavy demand for skilled labor of tlus type.A synopsis of the work of the Relief
Committee is as fol1ows;.l!'eb. 1940 99 on relief,March 87;March 39 -l36;a decrease
of 12 mver last month and 49 over last year at this time.Expenditures,Feb.40 630.99

with an Inspector of the Prov.Relief "'":eptowe would suggest tha.t relief be termin-
ated in Aurora at the end of April,and that further relief be granted only on a
basis to be decided upon and to unemployables. Report adopted. r
i'itr.G:oulding appeared before council and asked for monetary consideration for. the
extra hours put in at the arena during the threemonths of activity.
WILSON MALLOY that Jas.Goulding be paid the sum of 'll>25.00 "in payment of extra ser""
vices at the arena. during the hockey and skating season of 1939/1940,and that the
seal of the corporation be attached hereto. Carried.
HENDERSON LINTON that telephone extension be installed in the Waterworks office,
at a cost per month of eighty cents. Carried.
An agreement from the Bell Phone ~o.regarding particulars of joint use of poles
was read.and the E.L.Comm.ij>tee submitted a report "'that the letter from the Bell
Phone Cooda.ted March i5th.1940 re completing the forms for joint use of poles on.

attached." The report was adopted•
J.Buker appeared before council. and asked for an increas in wages as caretaker.
The report of the E.L.Committee as laid over at the last meeting was considered•
and was adopted on motion of Messrs Sparks and Wilson.
:rhe E.L.Committee submitted the fol.lowing suppl.ementary report;~>that we supply
power to the property of Mr.J.Bodfish as soon as materials can be received and
installations made,after the necessary appl.ication has beem maae and the reguJ.ar
Hydro contract signedoThe report was adopted on motion of Messrs Linton and Wilson.
The tax levy bylaw was introduced by Dr•ifenderson,given its severa.l readings
with :Mr.Wilson in the chair in colli!Uittee ,in legal. style qnd was passed and signed
providing for the tax levy of forty mills in the dollar;the same as in several.
years immediately preceding.
GUNTON HENDERSON that the H.S .Board be requested to properl.y sign the requisi tio1

SPARKS GUNTON that the municipality of Aurora observe ~aylight saving time on the

SPARKS HENDERSON that whereas the tax rate of forty mills required to be levied .
i upon the total alllount of the Assessment as determined by the last revision of the
assessment rolls was arrived at after allowing for the subsidy of one mill from the

Gunton-Linton-That the
Mayor. Deputy Reeve and the
chairman of the Industrial Com-
mittee represent this council on
a deputation to interview the
officers and directors of the
Fleury-Bissell Co. Ltd. with re-
spect to influencing them in re-
taining their factory in Aurora,
and that the Board of Trade be
requested to nominate members
to accompany them. Carried.
The council adjourned to
meet at the call of the chair.
