THE FIRSTj MEETING OF THE COUNCIL FOR THE YEAR 1937 was held in the coun-
cil room according to statute on Mend~ morning Jan.llth.at 11 O'Clock.
The following appeared and subscribed to the oath of office;

The Rev.Mr.Lightbourn was called upon and invoked the Divine :Blessing
upon the proceedings•
The mayor outlined the position of the town and the duties which will fa.ce
council during the year.
Rev.E.J.Thompson,ex Mayor J.M.Walton,ex Mayor s.C.Taylor and »r.Devins,
chairman of the P.S.:Board then gave short addresses.intersperoed with rema.rks
fnll'lll each member of the council in turn.
The mayor appointed the Reeve.Deputy Reeve and Mr.Stuart as a Striking
C!ommittee to meet at 7.30 this evening and bring in a report for the committees
fa r the year •
A Bylaw was introduced by the Reeve.given its several readings in legal
form,Mr.Hulse in the chair in committee and was passed and signed,providing
for the borrowing of money to cover the operating expenses of the town until
the taxes a~e paid•
The mayor declared a recess until 8.15 in the evening.
Promptly at 8.15 the council reassembled with all members in attendance.

HULSE KNOWLES that a letter be forwarded to the Warden and members of the York
County.Counaii~informing them that the Town of Aurora plan to hold a celebration
in honor of the Coronation of His Ma.jeaty.King George the Sixth,and that the town
of Aurora take pieaaure in inviting the County ~f York 0 the.members of County Coun
~ .
cil.,and the county officials,to join with the town of Aurora in sponsoring a coun-
ty celebration of the coronation in A.urora,similar to the Jubll.ee celebratipn of
His Late Majesty King George the Fifth. Carried ..
