TWELFTH M E E T I N G 0 F T H E C 0 U N C I L
F 0 R 1 9 1 e.
The twelfth meeting of the Council for the year was held in the
Council Room on Monday evening the third day of June.
The following members being present Namely:-Mayor Baldwin, Reeve
Knowles, Councillors Bassett, Reeves, Sisman, Taylor and· Winter.
The Mayor in the chair.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
Communica"tions were received and read from _the following persons
Namely:-W A Littlejohn City Clerk Toronto re abolition of the
Senate of Can,ada. Dr W J Stevenson asking to have one dog struck from
the assessment roll. J F Wildm!lll thanking the Council for liberal
inducements offered but owing to existing condi tiona (which he
eX:plained/) he. co1Hd.·not accept offer. Mrs Effie 0 Charles ~ecretary
of the Womens Institute offering to relieve the Council of the
payment of the three prizes for the best cul tiv3.ted lots, on condition
the prizes are presented from the platform in the Park on Field Day
July the first. From the Aurora Public School Bord asking the Council
to appoint a TrU!lllt Off icier. Sterling Special ties Comp!lllJ Buffalo

engines. Mr John McMahon withdrawing his objections to the assessment
of his farm.

THAT WHERE~.S, it has been brought to the notice of this Council
that the Toronto & York R. R. have increased their special rates
for passengers, have restricted the use of the tickets 3Xld th:J.t it
is the intention of the Comp3XlY to apply to Paril3.ment for power to
increase their regular rates.
AND WHEREAS, the Council of this Municipality have 0
al\1ays ·uphel\i•)the Toronto &'York R. R. against the large Corporat-
ions, have been extensive users of the railro'l.d, and have assisted

the Toronto & York R. R. :in every way possible, and :in view of past
events, consider to be entitled to consideration by the Toronto &
York R. R.
AND WHEREAS, the Council of this Mun:ic:ip!ll:ity are opposed
to the new regulations :imposed by the Toeonto & York R. R. which
regulations, :in their opinion, prohibit daily travel.
THEREFORE' be it resolved that the Council of this Corp-
oration oppose most strongly the acts of the Toronto & York R. R.
:in the new regulatiuns and that Mayor B!lldwin and Reeve Knowles oe
and they are hereby appointed a Committee, who with Committees from
the other Municip!llities, will form a joint Committee to wait on the
Toronto & York R. R. and ask for the following.
1 That the present increase in the fifty trip tickets be reduced.
2 That the privilege of the use of these tickets by members of
the family be restored.
3 That the Toronto & York R. R. refrain from asK:ing for power to
increase the regular rates.
4 That the Reeve use hos vote and influence in the County Council
for the furtherance of this resolution.
Council went into Committee of the whole on the resolution Mr
Knowles in the chair.
Committee rose and reported the resolution as amended.
Moved by Mr Reeves seconded by Mr Taylor th:tt the kind offer of
the Womens Institute to give the three prizes for vacent lots be
accepted with th3.nks axJd that the date of Judging be !lltered to the
last Saturday in June so as to meet .their views :itl giving the prizes
on July 1st. Carried.
Moved by Mr Bassett seconded by Mr S:ismaxJ that the report of the
Auditors be and the same is hereby accepted axJd the Clerk is hereby
instructed to have Two hundred copies of same printed axJd the seal
of the Corporation be attached to this resolution.

Committee be :tnd they :~re hereby instructed to report :t By-l:~w
at the next meeting of this Couucil to appoint :~ tax collector
for the year 1918 for the Town of Aurorst.
Carried.
Council then adjourned to meet at the c3.ll of the Mayor.
