The second meeting of the Council for 1909 was held on Monday Evening
January 18th, the members present being the Mayor, Reeve and Counc
illors, Bond, Bassett, Browning, Hastinvs and Querrie; the Mayor
in the chair.
Minutes of last Meeting read and confirmen.
The following accounts were received;-namely,
William Birchard, light in the Town Hall and Council Room :11:7.56
Trustees Toronto General Hospital, Re Boxal and Harman 15.00
Municipal World, Assessors Supplies for 1909 10.90

Moved by Mr Bassett seconded by Mr Hastinp;s that the followj_ng accounts
be paid, that the Mayor issue orders on the Treasurer for the same and
that the seal of the Corporation be attached to this resolution, namey

Moved by Mr Knowles seconded by t0r Q.uerrie that the sum of forty dollas
be and is herel!;y granted to the Town Clerk, Mr S, H. Lundy towards the
payment ~Jqg 1 9 o-qt of a type writer for the Clerks Office, Mr Lundy to
furnish an agreement with the town Re the Ownership of the same.

Corporntion be allowed to hire any help without the consent of the
Mayor .or the ChEtirman of the standing Commit tee.

Moved by Mr Bassett seconded by Mr Hastin~s That the council of the
Corporation of the Town of Aurora desires to draw the attention of'
L.ooal Let'"islature to the necessity and desireability of' granting
material assistance to the towns and villages of' Cntario in their
stru[gle to construct new sewers, extend a system already established
or build sewtage disposal works as indmvidual cases may rPquire. To
this end wecwould submit for the consideration of' the Government
th2.t a sewerage system has become a.s necessary to the very life and
existance of our urban municips.lities as good roads have become needed
in the townships and counties of Ontario, and should receive government
encouragement, supervision and financial assistance, a;li least in a like
proportion to the good roads movement.
